How to make the TOC appear in the TOC
Dear LyX users, I have a small problem I wasn't able to solve myself: I have a docume ("book" class) structured in the following way: + sec*: Abstract + Table of Contents + cha: Chapter 1 + ... + cha*: Appendix + ... Using some \addcontentsline{toc}{section}{...}} I was able to include in the TOC even the un-numbered chapters and sections, but I found no way to include the TOC it itself. If I add a \addcontentline just *before* the \tableofcontents it is indexed in the previous page, and of course if I put it just *after* the \tableofcontents it is indexed in the last page of the TROc wich is three pages long. This problem won't bother me much if the abstract was *after* the TOC, but with the current layout it feels like a hole in the TOC and I'll really like to fix it. I have passed through several latex manuals, but I wasn't able to find a solution; do you have any hint? Bye and thanks -- Lorenzo `paulatz' Paulatto Trieste ``Grandissima mi par l'inezia di coloro che vorrebbero che Iddio avesse fatto l'universo più proporzionato alla piccola capacità del lor discorso.'' --Galileo Galilei (Opere VII) -- Email.it, the professional e-mail, gratis per te: http://www.email.it/f Sponsor: Conosci la chat via SMS? LyX 1.4.2 on Mac Troubles
I have finally upgraded from LyX 1.3.5 to 1.4.2 after finishing a big project in 1.3. LyX 1.4.2 seems to launch fine, but when I try to open a new document I get the "Can't load document class error". Eventually a new document opens, but every click or keystroke brings up the spinning beach ball and eventually LyX hangs. Activity viewer shows a python script running and eating up 75-80% of the CPU before it hangs. I presume it is configure.py? But I'm not sure what the problem is? I've tried reconfigure, rehash and all the text classes show up in the TeX Info window. Any ideas? Steve

But I have had a crash when _opening_ a document that contains math formulas, while Instant Preview was on. It was sort of unpredictable, as has been remarked earlier on this mailing list. Jens

Actually the missing "Format 2" line tells LyX that it is an old layout file and it will convert it on the fly to the new format before reading it. Your modified old layouts should still work, as long as you did not modify one of the standard .inc files. If they don't, look at the console output and post it here. If you want to convert them permanently to the new format, use the layout2layout python script that comes in the scripts folder of your LyX installation: python layout2layout.py old.layout new.layout Georg

Have a look at numarticle.inc, or run layout2layout on any 1.3.x layout file that has counters defined and compare it with the converted file. You can of course also look at the conversion script itself if you know a bit of python, that will tell you at least the keywords to look for. Georg

adding hollywood TeX class
Hi, I'm new to Lyx and want to use it for writing a screenplay. I apologize if this has been asked before, but I have been unable to find an answer after two days of searching. When I open the hollywood.lyx template, it tells me the document uses a missing TeX class "hollywood" and that Lyx will not be able to produce output. Where can I find the hollywood TeX class, and how do I install it so that Lyx will find it? thanks, Dan

Here is another solution that works well for me (Ubuntu Dapper) Edit as root (sudo) /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local which is the file read to generate your locales in Ubuntu Dapper. I suggest these lines to be ajusted following your own locales. For someone in Québec, it is : fr_CA.UTF-8 UTF-8 fr_CA ISO-8859-1 en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8 for someone in France it may be: fr_FR.UTF-8 UTF-8 fr_FR ISO-8859-15 fr_FR ISO-8859-1 en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8 save the file and, in a terminal, type sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales Finally, to launch LyX you type this command LANG=fr_CA;lyx if your locale is fr_CA or LANG=fr_FR;lyx if your locale is fr_FR to make permanent this command, you may edit your menu, create an icon with the command or edit your .bashrc by adding this alias alias lyx='LANG=fr_CA;lyx' Don't forget to adjust your french locale according to your country code (FR, CA, BE, CH) in all the above. fr_CA ISO-8859-15 doesn't seem to work nor can be generated, that's why it is absent from the file /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local.
