in latex preamble

\usepackage[cam,a4center]{crop}

this makes only sense if your document size is less than a4. otherwise
you can't see the marks.

\^y and $\overline{y}$

both in tex(red). overline is a little bit better than \bar,
where the line is too short.

Customizing myheadings page style

2000-12-28 Thread Florian-Daniel Otel

Dear all,

I'm writing a pretty large document in Lyx. I use two page styles:

-For the 'normal' pages I use customized fancyheaders like:

\pagestyle{fancy}
\fancyhead{}% delete the default header
\fancyfoot{}% delete the default footer
\fancyhead[LE,RO]{\thepage}
\fancyhead[RE]{}
\fancyhead[LO]{}

- For special pages (e.g. sectioning pages) I would like to override
the above page style only to print the page number in the top corner
(top right for odd pages, top left for even pages). What I use right
now is a kludge that "just works":

\thispagestyle{myheadings}
\markboth{}{}

Well my questions are:
  - How to do it "right" i.e. how to customize the "(my)headings"
page style ?
  - Alternatively, how can I create a customized page style in LyX
(And use it, of course ;)

Cheers,

Florian

P.S. If someone could explain _why_ that the above kludge works it
would be great :)) As a side note I just "discovered" it when trying to
use \markboth smth like "\markboth{}{\thepage}" to set the headers ;)

lyx don't work correctly on redhat 7.0

2000-12-28 Thread belahcene abdelkader

i every body,
I have installed in my computer running redhat 6.O,
serveral version of lyx with success, from lyx 1.0.4
to the newer one lyx-1.1.5fix2 (using tar.gz or RPM).
Now i've bought the version 7.0 there is a problem :
for 1.1.5fix2.-1.rpm , the istallation is possible but
when you run lyx, the color of the rest of the
application change and are dummed.
With the version 1.1.5.rpm or 1.1.5-fix1.rpm, the
istallation is possible but when you run lyx, it
crashes error dump.
I tried to to the source : with 1.1.5fix2.tar.gz the
configuration is correcte for everything (in all the
cases both redhat 6.0 or 7.0 i installed the forms
library), but the command make gives error like :
../../src/LString.h:21: conflicting types for `typedef
class lyxstring.
I 've noticed that the problem with
/usr/include/g++-3.

or
/usr/include/g++-3/string:9: previous declaration as
`typedef class
basic_string,
__default_alloc_template > string'
make[3]: *** [formula.lo] Erreur 1

this directory doesnot exist on the redhat version
6.0.

So now I couldnot use the Lyx in my new version of
redhat. It 's a pitty.

perhaps someone could help me.
thans a lot

in latex preamble:

\fancypagestyle{plain}{%
  \fancyhf{}
  \fanyhead[RO]{\hfill\bfseries \thepage}
  \renewcommand\headrulewidth{0pt}
  \renewcommand\footrulewidth{0pt}
}

for two-side mode, where chapters always start on an odd page.
latex switchs by default to pagestyle plain, when starting a chapter.

Did you use menus a lot before this happened? This probably means that
we leak popups, but where??

Yes, I was using a lot the Document menu: I was switching between 2 lyx files
and doing cut and paste. The destination file was in french language (Layout->
Document->Language->French) and the second was in default language.
I was cuting and pasting bibliography entries (so, the pasted bibliograhy entry
and underlined in blue).
After some cut and paste, lyx crashed and printed this message.
This bug doesn't reproduced when I selected the whole document in default
language and change the language to french.

That's very strange. Did it happen only once?

Yes, I didn't try to repeat the procedure to see if it's a repeatable bug.
I will try next week.

Crop Marks

2000-12-28 Thread Dr. Antonio Botelho de Sousa

Thank you Oscar and Herbert Voss for your sugestions.
I've dowloaded the package crop from CTAN and it works. But there's a problem.
The paper size of my book is h=23 cm an w=16.
So if i put in the preambule of the documente a4center, all the documente is
out of alignement.
How can i define a paper size of 23 by 16. Changing the macro?
But where are them?
Thank you once more.

P.S: Diacritical marks are OK. Thanks.

This should be Layout->Documents->Fonts.

It seems he was using LyX 1.1.6pre2 in which steps 2,3 should be replaced by
2. Choose View->PDF from the menu.

I have read something about re-emergence of KLyX in LDN, but I did not
understood it well. Are there signs of KLyX's life? I would be very
interested (using KDE on my RedHat).

When I run lyx (1.1.15-fix2-1) on an itemize list LyX puts nice graphical bullets in
the gui but nothing in the dvi or ps output... unless I switch from \bullet\ to

I'm running debian-testing (potato+stable bits of woody) which includes

Several developers are working towards GUI independence of the LyX core
code. What this means is that the parts that control the GUI (xforms,
gnome, or kde) are localised, which makes it easier to port. I, with some
help from the other developers, am working on the KDE 1 frontend. This wil
enable a KLyX style frontend to LyX. In time, a KDE 2 frontend will also
exist.

However, this will take some time.
