2013-03-08 Thread Lance
Of course we have. That's what spurred the unwarranted outrage and debate that
has no effect whatsoever on our plans to release 13.04 ;^)

Did you see this post:

https://lists.launchpad.net/lubuntu-qa/msg01870.html

It would be foolish to assume anything about future releases beyond the fact
that we'll adapt to whatever changes are actually adopted!

The sky is NOT falling!

Hi again,
Excuse me but I'd just like to make sure everyone here has actually read this:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2013-February/036537.html

I just read it all and tried to watch these:
http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-1303/meeting/21669/community-quality-testingstrategy/

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-1303/meeting/21670/community-quality-rolling/

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-1303/meeting/21672/community-quality-growth/

http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-1303/meeting/21628/client-13033-ubuntu-friendly-improvements/

But for some reason it got stuck so I couldn't carry on.
I'm not sure if this is the right time, place or the right way to ask but
assuming starting after 13.04 is released, Ubuntu will go Rolling Releases and
LTS Releases ...
My Q simply is:Is there any way we can keep our system far away from all that?
I mean Lubuntu?
Thanks!

[Lubuntu-qa] Daily Builds

2013-03-08 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi folks,

as much as a reminder for me, so I don't keep asking.

The Daily builds for Lubuntu are scheduled to start at 16:29 UTC. As I
write this (16:54) the 1st of them have already arrived.

As far as I know, the armhf+c100 build is built as and when the arm team
ask.

Regards,

Phill.

[Lubuntu-qa] !3.04 final testing

2013-03-08 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi folks,

We are now approaching a critical part of 13.04. Starting today, 13.04 is
under Feature Freeze (No new applications, or additional (new) features
allowed and ONLY bug fixes are allowed). Whilst there is a system for
exceptions to be allowed in for VERY good reasons, what was built today on
the Raring Iso's is pretty much what the applications will be in 13.04. Our
Head of Dev assures me that we got all the lubuntu ones in on time.
Normally, the ISO's were supposed to be handed over to the Quality /
Testing team on the Friday so we have 7 days to go over them. As per
normal, this didn't happen :) What will not happen is the date of the Beta
1 release date being changed.

So, what can you do to help? Well, all of you good people have actually
already done lubuntu ISO testing. You did that when you installed lubuntu.
Having installed it once, you know how to do it.

Lubuntu has many different ISO's to test, every one of these has to be
fully tested and passed at Beta 1, Beta 2 and the final Release Client. If
we do not have the tests done and passed, they will not be released; this
will mean that those people dependent on them will not have a 13.04
release. You good people can really make a difference. I've now updated the
lubuntu testing area[1] to hold as much up to date information for you as I
can.

However, I must now ask that questions for 13.04 are asked on the
Lubuntu-QA mailing list; there are simply not enough of the more
experienced testers to follow anything but bug-reports and the mailing
list. ** We do NOT bite **. It is a 'roller coaster' ride, especially the
first time (although I still get a buzz when release day comes). You get
the chance to say
"Hey, I was a part of the team that made that happen".. Trust me, it's
a good buzz even though most of are very tired by then :)

The Lubuntu 13.04 Beta 1 testing ISO will be created on Monday (evening - I
will update this list). If you still think you do not have experience to
test, please take the weekend to get used to how it all works and get your
name down as a tester and ask questions. It makes a difference even if you
only run one test out of the many needed, just go and test... Once you have
your 1st test under your belt, you'll realise that it is easier than
installing for the first time and I'm sure you will get that nice feeling
of 'Yeah, I helped".

Regards,
Phill.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Zsync

2013-03-08 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi Jose,

I suggest that as you will be using the terminal, that you do as I did and
make a directory /home//isos

For me, it is /home/phillw/isos

Do NOT use sudo to make these areas, as it causes Zsync to not be able to
see the area or ISO's that you have installed.

Regards,

Phill.

Does Zsync automatically put it that directory, because I already have
that. and I downloaded a few minutes ago the lubuntu daily. so i need to
know where Zsync put it. I have to say that I already had a daily in there,
but the terminal at first told me that i needed to download the full iso.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Zsync

2013-03-08 Thread Lance
By default the terminal "looks in" Home, but if you have a previous iso that
was downloaded using a browser that iso might be in Downloads.

Two very simple commands for working in the terminal are:

ls (That is lower case LS) - lists the files and folders in that directory

and:

cd - changes the directory

As an example if I open my terminal and type ls I see:

lance@lance-desktop:~$ ls
Backups Documents examples.desktop Music Public Templates
Desktop Downloads I'm_lost.png Pictures Reorganize_me Videos

If I cd to Downloads and then type ls I see:

lance@lance-desktop:~$ cd Downloads
lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads$ ls
DebianLinuxMint Misc_debs Puppy
gcalctool_5.30.0.is.5.28.2-0ubuntu2_i386.deb lost+found Misc_isoUbuntu
Kubuntu Lubuntu Peppermint Xubuntu

That may seem confusing at first glance but I use and test other distros and
*buntu flavors so I have to keep then separate ;^)

So I then "cd" again to get back to Home, and then "cd Downloads/Lubuntu", and
then ls shows me the contents of that folder:

lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads$ cd
lance@lance-desktop:~$ cd Downloads/Lubuntu
lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads/Lubuntu$ ls
lubuntu-12.04-alternate-i386.iso lubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso
lubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.isoraring-alternate-i386.iso
lubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso raring-alternate-i386.iso.zs-old
lubuntu-12.10-alternate-amd64.iso raring-desktop-i386.iso
lubuntu-12.10-alternate-i386.iso raring-desktop-i386.iso.zs-old
lubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso

You can see there a list of the contents of Downloads/Lubuntu on my box.

Did that help or did I just cause confusion?

Lance

Ok when I download a ISO it goes into downloads, Then I move it into my

through terminal Zsync i thought it was going to replace the one in the Iso
file. Am I wrong? I do have one in the download folder now. Is that the one
from Zsync?. I'm sorry if I'm making it confusing.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Zsync

2013-03-08 Thread Jose Lopez
Ok I found it. Zsync did put it in the /home
, but it made it's own file. now I'm going to make a copy for testing. Q.
should I erase the one on my /home/jose/iso, and replace it with this one?.
Zsync must do something that will recognize it's own, and for some reason
it did not recognized the one I had in their. Q do I need to put a "s" on
that directory file name (Like) /home/jose/isos?

Ok guys, The reason Zsync did not see the iso in the /home was because the
one I had in there, was the alternate. That would do it right?

By default the terminal "looks in" Home, but if you have a previous iso
that was downloaded using a browser that iso might be in Downloads.

Two very simple commands for working in the terminal are:

ls (That is lower case LS) - lists the files and folders in that
 directory

 and:

 cd - changes the directory

As an example if I open my terminal and type ls I see:

 lance@lance-desktop:~$ ls
Backups Documents examples.desktop Music Public Templates
Desktop Downloads I'm_lost.png Pictures Reorganize_me Videos

If I cd to Downloads and then type ls I see:

 lance@lance-desktop:~$ cd Downloads
 lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads$ ls
 DebianLinuxMint Misc_debs
 Puppy
 gcalctool_5.30.0.is.5.28.2-0ubuntu2_i386.deb lost+found Misc_iso
  Ubuntu
 Kubuntu Lubuntu Peppermint
  Xubuntu

That may seem confusing at first glance but I use and test other
distros and *buntu flavors so I have to keep then separate ;^)

So I then "cd" again to get back to Home, and then "cd
Downloads/Lubuntu", and then ls shows me the contents of that folder:

 lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads$ cd
 lance@lance-desktop:~$ cd Downloads/Lubuntu
 lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads/Lubuntu$ ls
 lubuntu-12.04-alternate-i386.iso lubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso
 lubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.isoraring-alternate-i386.iso
 lubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso raring-alternate-i386.iso.zs-old
 lubuntu-12.10-alternate-amd64.iso raring-desktop-i386.iso
 lubuntu-12.10-alternate-i386.iso raring-desktop-i386.iso.zs-old
 lubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso

You can see there a list of the contents of Downloads/Lubuntu on my box.

Did that help or did I just cause confusion?

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Zsync

2013-03-08 Thread Lance
First of all, a member of Lubuntu dev pointed out that the way I posted about
those two commands may have been confusing the "-" is not part of
either command. So just to be clear:

cd

Yep just those two letters, is used to change directories.

ls

Just lower case LS (I point that out because sometimes a lower case "L" is
confused as upper case "i") is used to see what is in the current directory.

Now, as far as naming any folder or directory that's simply a personal choice.
But, just as an example, since I test both Ubuntu and Lubuntu images look at
the names:

lance@lance-desktop:~$ cd Downloads/Lubuntu
lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads/Lubuntu$ ls
lubuntu-12.04-alternate-i386.iso   lubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso
lubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso    raring-alternate-i386.iso
lubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso raring-alternate-i386.iso.zs-old
lubuntu-12.10-alternate-amd64.iso  raring-desktop-i386.iso
lubuntu-12.10-alternate-i386.iso   raring-desktop-i386.iso.zs-old
lubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso
lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads/Lubuntu$ cd
lance@lance-desktop:~$ cd Downloads/Ubuntu
lance@lance-desktop:~/Downloads/Ubuntu$ ls
precise-desktop-i386.iso ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso
precise-desktop-i386.iso.zs-old  ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso
quantal-desktop-amd64.iso    ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso
raring-desktop-i386.iso  ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso.zs-old
raring-desktop-i386.iso.zs-old   ubuntu-gnome-12.10-desktop-i386.iso
ubuntu-10.04.4-desktop-i386.iso

You'll see that I have a "raring-desktop-i386.iso" in both "Downloads/Lubuntu"
and "Downloads/Ubuntu". That's why I have to keep totally different
folders/directories for different flavors.

Is that making any sense to you?

I hope I'm not just creating confusion.

You should decide where you want the ISO. /home/jose/iso/ is fine. You
should cd into that directory, and then run zsync in there, so that is
where it stores the ISO file. You can then delete all other copies of
it from other places, so they do not confuse you, and so they do not
waste disk space.

It doesn't matter, you can use any name you like for the directory. Just
use the *same* name every time you use zsync, so you update the copy you
already have, and do not start a new one each time. So you probably
want to do something like

  cd /home/jose/iso
  zsync

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/current/raring-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync

in a terminal window, each time you want to update this ISO.

Hi Jose,

I can see a need for a more detailed classroom session after 13.04 is
released, it is patently obvious that the current one does not explain
things fully.

Thanks for pointing this out. We do require you new comers to tell us where
the instructions are not clear.

I will be checking with you as I get this new session up and running once
13.04 is released, please do keep notes of all the problems and issues you
are having so that we can give a good lesson for people new to it. Oh,
yes,... I expect you to be there to answer questions from new comers :)
