[Lubuntu-qa] [Window Focus - Observation] Where did Lubuntu put a new opened window?

2013-02-22 Thread Ali Linx (amjjawad)
Hello everyone,

Long story short and without long introductions. I have noticed the
following behaviors on Lubuntu 13.04 (updated).

*Case I*
Screenshots from *1-6* show where Lubuntu put a new opened window *in the
middle/center of the screen**.*

*Case II*
Screenshots from *a-c* show where Lubuntu put a new opened window*
'WHILE' another
window is opened.*

*Conclusion*
As long as there is not any application or program or window opened on your
desktop, Lubuntu will put a new opened window in the middle of your screen.

If there is another program or application or window opened already, the
'new' opened window will NOT be placed in the middle, it will be placed
some where else.

*My Personal Opinion*
If you ask me, this is a very smart and important default feature, IMHO. It
is a basic feature that 'should' be available.
Placing each new opened window on the top of each other will simply create
a mess. This way, you can see both windows.

You see I have chosen 6 random applications/programs. Each one started in
the middle. Yes, Lubuntu does remember where was the last time the very
same application's window was placed so when you close it, re-open the very
same application, 'as long as' there is no other application opened, the
system will put the window in the middle.

@Developers and/or Lubuntu QA Team,
PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you all :)

P.S.
Why I'm sending this? users are still wondering and asking about that every
now and then :)

Do you have a bug report # for that ubiquity bug?

I'm aware of this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1080701

It's been bugging many of us since mid-November but we obviously no longer care
about the ability to install and/or test the images until Beta falls :^(

I hate to be the turd in the punch-bowl, but why bother testing if nothing ever
gets fixed?

PS: this is an indication that "cadence" should be renamed, maybe to "we'll

there are things getting fixed, but not many. there doesn't seem to be
enough testing though, even just to get some bugs confirmed. some bugs in
the iso tracker have been "new" for a few months.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Desktop, Alternate and flavours....

2013-02-22 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
Lance, it looks like xnox has assigned himself this bug and is working
on it. I've not run across it, but looking at the comments it seems like
a certain partition setup is needed. That said, your obviously keeping
your eye on it, which is a good thing. If your testing during the
cadence week and slamming into this bug, just file the result with the
bug report and use the workarounds to keep going. There might other
issues plaguing the installer.

I know it can feel frustrating to see bugs sit, but keep at it. Make
sure the devs can reproduce, and ask for status updates or offer to help
as needed. Recently, jackson and phil have successfully been able to
work with the testdrive and dev folks to get fixes in for testdrive and
virtualbox. It took them a bit and they definitely kept at it, asking
different people to help along the way. It's just a recent example of
being helpful and showing concern for the bug in question. Keep plugging
away. Making a thread dedicated to the bug on the mailing list is
another way to raise visibility amongst everyone and help you (and all
of us) to drive the bug.

Jackson, that's a good idea actually. We should pull the unconfirmed
ubiquity bugs off the lp list and try and confirm or deny them. We've
done similar drives in past cycles as the cycle gets further along. I
think now is a good time. That's something we as a team can do to help
the developers. I'll try and get a nice summary link to view and add it
as a task for our cadence week.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Desktop, Alternate and flavours....

2013-02-22 Thread Lance
I'm sorry, but if we're talking about the same bug it popped up in
mid-November, now we're nearly at the end of February.  That's like 3 1/2
months of not being able to properly install and test the images so it's not
inconsequential that testers would feel their testing has no impact.

Don't be surprised when testers drop out after seeing weeks, months or even
years of critical (and fixable) bugs going unattended.

It would be great to even have a list here on the QA mailing list.

When we were doing normal Alpha testing we'd sometimes have many rebuilds over
a period of 3 to 4 days but we'd typically end up with an image that was usable
by most of us, and a compilation of bugs that really needed attention.

Now it's just a crap shoot.

  Hi good people,

as we run through cadence testing, there
does seem to be a lack of testing. Can I ask
that people do test out the DeskTop versions
for lubuntu and xubuntu as we seem to have a
gremlin in ubiquity that may only affect our
Virtual Machines. Also when you take the time
out to try the 'alternate' ISOs for lubuntu,
would you also please check out the basic
ubuntu-server ISO, as it is required for us to
maintain support for the lubuntu-alternate ISO
  series.

Regards,

Phill.

Yes, the milestones provided structure. We're missing good reporting for
our dailies, but phillw and myself have opened a bug for that. Feel free
to add to it:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-qa-website/+bug/1126449

For now, here's a link sorted by descending date of all incomplete or
unconfirmed bugs reported via the iso tracker;

http://is.gd/qSVTH7

In addition, you can use the tracker reports to see things (though it is
sorted by milestone):

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/reports/defects/opened

I think starting with the recent ones and weeding those down is a great
focus. I'll try and target myself to weed out some during our cadence
next week.

It would be great to even have a list here on the QA mailing list.

When we were doing normal Alpha testing we'd sometimes have many
rebuilds over a period of 3 to 4 days but we'd typically end up with
an image that was usable by most of us, and a compilation of bugs that
really needed attention.

Now it's just a crap shoot.

i might make a wiki page for iso bugs that need confirming/looking at.

Jackson, that's a good idea actually. We should pull the
unconfirmed ubiquity bugs off the lp list and try and confirm
or deny them. We've done similar drives in past cycles as the
cycle gets further along. I think now is a good time. That's
something we as a team can do to help the developers. I'll try
and get a nice summary link to view and add it as a task for
our cadence week.

Thanks guys!

I'm aware of this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1080701

It's been bugging many of us since mid-November but we
obviously no longer care about the ability to install
and/or test the images until Beta falls :^(

I hate to be the turd in the punch-bowl, but why bother
testing if nothing ever gets fixed?

Lance

PS: this is an indication that "cadence" should be
renamed, maybe to "we'll look at it later"!
