[Lubuntu-comms] merge with the xubuntu community
Hi everybody, I think it would be a good idea to merge with the xubuntu community, so I am happy reading about the current discussions about cooperation. They have a good web site for beginners and everyday users, free from technical details and insider speak. The managers know how to write for the web, which is difficult and different from other kinds of writing. Neither Xubuntu nor Lubuntu has enough day-to-day contents to need a separate site. The information is more or less static in the half year between releases. The two distros are targeting the same users, who have middle-age or old hardware that does not work well with standard Ubuntu (Unity), who do not like spyware or simply like the Ubuntu engine behind the curtain, but do not like Unity. Re: [Lubuntu-comms] merge with the xubuntu community
A few comments: 1. CC the xubuntu team 2. While that is true, how would we actually do the merge (naming and artwork mostly)? 3. I'm not sure the target audience is that defined, especially for xubuntu. [Lubuntu-comms] [Blueprint lubuntu-website] Lubuntu Website must be ready for an LTS Release!
Blueprint changed by amjjawad: Whiteboard changed: - [David Yentzen] I agree. The Lubuntu site needs to be overhauled to be - easier to use, more informative, and more up to date. + [NOTE] Kindly be informed that Ubuntu Community Council is working on this issue and this blueprint will be updated once there is any kind of progress. The case has been escalated to a higher level since the community of Lubuntu failed to come up with a solution to solve this issue for two years. The Ubuntu Community Council has showed their full support and help which is good news. Hopefully, it is a matter of few days until we reach to a final solution. + - + [David Yentzen] I agree. The Lubuntu site needs to be overhauled to be easier to use, more informative, and more up to date. [vanyok] I agree with you. The website is the first thing people probably see even before trying a Live system. It's a "face" of a product which is Lubuntu OS in our case. It must look good and reflect our Lubuntu values (simplicity, lightweight, etc). (Hello from http://lubuntu.ru/ Russian Community!) [joern-schoenyan] Yes! As soon as possible, there should be an information on lubuntu.net that 14.04 will be a LTS-release. Every few days I have to write it in the german forums, because not enough people know it. [amjjawad] There are some incorrect information on the Website and there are some missing information on the website. I have just updated the Work Items and the main Blueprint above so everything should be updated and clear now :) [israeldahl] I think the website needs to be optimized for smart phones as well, with a really responsive design. Many people use phones to check things on facebook, g+, etc... and a QR code for the website would help for flyers/posters/blogs, etc... `$ sudo apt-get install qreator` social media plugins should be included on the site as well (https://sharethis.com/ or something similar) maybe in a footer (though some older android browsers && opera mini do not suppport position:fixed very well/at all) IE needs to be seriously considered (if it isn't) as XP users are a huge target being now faced with the April 2014 date -- [Mistake] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/lubuntu- users/2013-November/006086.html [Mistake] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/lubuntu- users/2013-November/006087.html -- Lubuntu Website must be ready for an LTS Release! https://blueprints.launchpad.net/lubuntu-brainstorming/+spec/lubuntu-website -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-comms Post to : lubuntu-comms@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-comms More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Lubuntu-comms] [Blueprint marketing-department] Lubuntu 14.04 needs a very active and strong Marketing Department
Blueprint changed by amjjawad: Whiteboard changed: [Noskcaj] Can we try and contact some of the LoCo teams and ask them to include lubuntu at install-fests? Also, can we get some basic lubuntu T-shirts (A basic one is at http://www.spreadshirt.com/design-your-own-t-shirt-C59/product/108564909/view/1/sb/l ) The marketing wiki page is at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Marketing [SergioMeneses] We might to add Lubuntu to the global jam and more spreading about its include + + [amjjawad] Sadly, nothing here can be done until we finish this one: + https://blueprints.launchpad.net/lubuntu-brainstorming/+spec/lubuntu- + comms-lead-needed -- Lubuntu 14.04 needs a very active and strong Marketing Department https://blueprints.launchpad.net/lubuntu-brainstorming/+spec/marketing-department -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-comms Post to : lubuntu-comms@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-comms More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Lubuntu-comms] Social media admins
We should record who are the admins for the social media channels in either one of these pages, but not necessarily both. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Channels https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/SubTeams I'm guessing the latter would be the right place.
