[Lubuntu-comms] Dutch Cyber Security Centre Points To GNU/Linux To Replace XP

2013-11-10 Thread Lars Noodén
In this 4-page brochure, Ubuntu gets named a few times:

https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/community/osor/news/dutch-cyber-security-centre-linux-suitable-businesses

But assuming it is about older machines, it would be of more pratical
benefit to explicitly name Lubuntu. Are there any Dutch participants
here yet that could give more details?

Regards,
/Lars

[Lubuntu-comms] advert^w whitepaper

2013-11-10 Thread Lars Noodén
It seems that sponsored ads are all the rage. Two companies put
together this ad and got InfoWorld to publish it:

http://www.infoworld.com/d/wp/the-top-5-reasons-you-must-migrate-away-windows-xp-today-230527

Could comms put something similar together on hopping off the treadmill
completely and moving to Lubuntu/Ubuntu? There would be two tasks:
getting the thing written and getting it published, though
self-publishing might make the latter easier.

Regards,
/Lars

Re: [Lubuntu-comms] Dutch Cyber Security Centre Points To GNU/Linux To Replace XP

2013-11-10 Thread David Yentzen
Hi,
I like the idea! However, I believe two( possibly three) things would
need to be in place in order to capture large market shares.
  1. A Lubuntu LTS
  2. An organized and active marketing team
and 3. most likely Lubuntu would need some type of support team with
very clear and organized install and user instructions( manual)

Best
David

Maybe there should be a list of organizations, institutions, and
agencies to take contact with in regards to promoting LTS when the time
is ready.

[Lubuntu-comms] [Reminder] StartUbuntu

2013-11-10 Thread Ali Linx (amjjawad)
Hi Communications Team,

I thought to remind you that we have yet another mission (beside choosing
the one who will lead this team -
https://lists.launchpad.net/lubuntu-comms/msg00785.html) which apparently,
everyone has forgotten about:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StartUbuntu

Thanks to Lars, he reminded me to remind you when he sent two emails about
similar topic.

If you 'still' believe that Lubuntu should play a major role in this
campaign, then, I guess you need to join and start doing something as this
is NOT my project, it is a community project ;)

Thank you!

A very good idea. I have, lately, wondered if the Comms Team should have
two major divisions: 1. a division that concentrates on marketing the LTS
and 2. a division that concentrates on outreach to social media and
websites, etc.

Thoughts anyone?

[Lubuntu-comms] [Blueprint windows-xp-users] Simplify the process of migration from Windows XP to Lubuntu

2013-11-10 Thread Sergio Meneses
Blueprint changed by Sergio Meneses:

Whiteboard changed:
[vanyok] Good initiative and golden words, AJ! Who is our video expert?
Leszek? Maybe we can ask him to prepare some introduction videos or there might
be other volunteers to do that.
YouTube is owned by Monster Corporation aka Corporation of Goodness... but
still it's a leader in video hosting area. So... fine.

[JoshwaJustify] That is a very good idea, we could maybe do a video
showing the comparisons between there current system of xp and how
lubuntu provides an alternative, it would have to be short videos such
as 3-5 minutes long to make the videos shareable but its not a bad idea.

[dale-visser] I imagine most newcomers from XP will use the installer
option to preserve Windows and make their system dual boot. Perhaps
there should be some easily discoverable software in Lubuntu that makes
it easy to access and even move their Windows XP user data over to the
Lubuntu partition? In the videos area, I can imagine a page that has
videos labelled for Microsoft Office users...how to get up and running
witht the office applications in Lubuntu, and how to use Software Center
to download and install a Powerpoint or Access alternative, etc.
+
+ [SergioMeneses] [Re: JoshwaJustify] we already have a youtube channel
+ but it has few videos, this would be an amazing idea to bring it back.
+ +1
+
+ [SergioMeneses] We might create a wiki page with the process as well, I
+ think it will be easier to translate and we might put this new link on
+ our website near to our videos or at the description.
