I'm pretty sure Gnome 3 requires OpenGL. I'm also pretty sure you
don't have that on the lemote.

I guess gnome 3 has some sort of fallback mode, but it's not really
the focus of the project.

You might want to install something that's designed to be really
light on resources like xfce.
