[YBA] Apropos FOSS edu content
Hi friends, A few weeks ago there was a discussion here of electronic text books. Last night I met the executive director of www.curriki.org who is doing just that, developing a platform for FOSS educational materials. Apparently there is a move in this direction in the developing world and to some degree in the US. Re: Current recommendations for Linux-compatible printer?
I have an HP printer/fax/scanner here. Nice piece of HW. I connected it to the wireless network, and under Windows it's a charm. Under linux, I can print to it from the network. They have this nice web interface from which you you can scan, I did not manage to get the scanner working directly with the OS. I am not able to "print to fax" from linux. Under Windows you have this option to stick a sdcard to the machine, and it will send it to your computer. Again, don't know how it works under linux. So... yes, the very basic things work under HP. However, this machine can do SO MUCH MORE, and using it under linux seems like a waste for me. My HP Officejet 6313 is connected to the network (I didn't want the wireless model due to security: * Printing - flawless. * Scanning - same (xsane, gimp plugins, etc.) * Fax out - tested via the hp-toolbox - works. * Fax in - printed directly, didn't test if it has other features. * Media cards (e.g: MMC) - Locally print photos. In an older model I had (USB-based) I could mount it, but I don't see this option here. [Weekend Reminder] Re: [Telux] Next Meeting: "CMake" on 25-October-2009
Hi all! This is a weekend reminder that we will have a TelFOSS meeting about CMake the upcoming Sunday (25-Oct-2009) on 18:30 in Tel Aviv University. More details can be found below. Sorry for not publicising it on Facebook, but the wretched Send button did not work in Firefox. :-(. It was on Whatsup.org.il, though. Re: Current recommendations for Linux-compatible printer?
Hello Oleg, Thanks for the link. However my purpose in asking for recommendations was to get feedback from actual people, who actually print under Linux. When buying the CX3200, I vetted it using Linux compatibility guides and it indeed proved to be compatible (both printing and scanning). However, it turned out to have been designed to make ink as expensive as possible. Such a defect would have been revealed only by testimonials of real people. --- Omer On Fri, 2009-10-23 at 19:02 +0200, Oleg Goldshmidt wrote: > Omer, > > Check out http://www.linuxprinting.org/ or go directly to > http://www.openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi (you can get to it from > the first link if you go to fatabase -> Printers). -- Sent from a PC running a top secret test version of Windows 97.
