They have released PP for 9.2 (if it's relevant), at least for standard
registration but I think it's on public servers too now.

Kinneret 0.7.2. (development) is now available via BitTorrent - PLEASE JOIN NOW

2004-02-27 Thread Dovix
Hi everybody,

We don't usually announce developemnt versions of
Kinneret in the first week after it's available so
that we can spend some more time on QA.

However, we are going to have an exception this time
because this is not just another new release, it's the
first time we try to make it available via BitTorrent.

We have planned for using BitTorrent for quite some
time, but the latest "slashtot effect" following the
article in Maariv made us realize we have to check
this promising technology not only for internal
distribution, but to test it at large scale.

So I would like to invite everybody to install
BitTorrent and help in this test.

You'll also be getting GNU/Linux Kinneret 0.7.2 that
we hope will be our best release yet. Some of the
highlights you can expect are a choice between
KDE/XFce, a new look, The Swimming Guide has new
manuals such as for OpenOffice (from www.xslf.com), a
set of useful plugins for Firebird (0.7) etc.

SO HOW TO GET STARTED?

1. Install BitTorrent -
http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html - this
is a set of python scripts so no compilation is
needed. You can also find pre-built packages for your
distro (apt-get, urpmi...)

2. Open ports: 6881 through 6889, 6969
These are needed for BitTorrent to work efficiently.
Note that if you don't open these, you will be plain
leechers and not share your upload capacity with the
rest of the downloaders.

3. Get the torrent file from here:
http://tracker.linux-kinneret.org/

4. Start the download, this is for the GUI mode:

btdownloadgui.py Kinneret-0.7.2.iso.torrent &

5. Once you finish download, DO NOT CLOSE THE APP so
that others can download from you.

btw, expect a slow start, but if we get many
downloaders (especially with a LOT of uplink
bandwidth) it should get better later on.

2004-02-27 Thread Dovix
Though Bittorrent is considered safe, an md5sum is
also available:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/kinneret/Kinneret-0.7.2.md5sum

Adding hebrew task (installation option) for Debian Installer II

2004-02-27 Thread Shlomi Loubaton

Hi all,
i'm going to report a bug/wishlist in BTS about Debian's "tasksel".
tasksel enables you to choose some tasks for your Debian installation, that
is, a group of packages ment for specific pupose. It also allows you to
install language env. so all packages you need in order to use your language
will get installed. I'm going to request them to add option for Hebrew that
will set the encoding (he_IL.UTF-8 right?) and install all Hebrew package in
Debian:

culmus
hspell
libfribidi0
bidiv
and if it's possible, to detect whether KDE is going to be installed and add
to the list kde-i18n-he and koffice-i18n-he .

Did i forget anything ?
(please give me only package names that exist in official Debian apt-sources)

Shlomil.

apt-cache search 'hebrew' has a few more packages to suggest. I'll
leave it to your discretion if they are appropriate or not.

Cheers,

yudit. And it does not come up as a result of apt-cache search 'hebrew'.
I just do not remember why I needed it to set up Hebrew...
