[linux] Best mail list server hosting

2025-04-09 Thread Alan McKay via linux
This is not directly Linux related, but in our current incarnation we run
mailman on an Ubuntu server on Amazon in I believe an EC2 instance

It is a pretty active mailing list. Far more active than this one for the
local beer and brewing community..

Currently costing about $37 a month and we are looking for a way to reduce
that. Maybe with fully hosted service where we do not have back end control
or something like that. Just a GUI to manage.

Not finding much in Google in terms of options. Most things that come up
appear to be geared towards blasting out emails in marketing campaigns.

I guess my only issue here is not so the fact that we pay in US. \but the
fact that for such service, the emails will run around the globe for
something rather local.

It's a mailing list. The members themselves might be located anywhere
in the world.

Dianne.

No; mailmanlists.net is based in Australia and has servers in
Australia, the EU, the UK and the USA. Presumably you can pick
which location you want for your list.

Dianne.

Those are hard to find, but you can get a KVM instance powerful enough
to run a mailman list from LunaNode for probably around $5-$10/month or
OVH for around $10-$15/month.

I did find this:

https://www.mailmanlists.net/

which claims they'll host your Mailman lists for "From $3.45 USD /
month" and they give you a choice of Mailman 2 or Mailman 3

Dianne.

At Linux-Gatineau, we are using Sympa. This is a software that, I think,
originates from France. It seems to work fine, although we had some
issues with the proper header of the email. I did not do the setup of
the software, but helped a little bit.

I have some experience with mailing list software and can help you with
this.

Are you currently running Mailman2 (deprecated) or Mailman3?

Do you have access to the Ubuntu system to retrieve necessary resources
for a migration?

i.e. mbox and "pickle" file for MM2 lists, pg_dump for MM3

If you prefer to discuss off-list, I'm at r...@bclug.ca
