[LincolnTalk] Ukelele at Bemis

2021-07-19 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello,
Does anyone have contact info for the person who coordinates or leads the
ukulele lessons or jam sessions that happen at Bemis Hall on Thursdays?
Checking the COA newsletter shows only that it takes place on the 2nd & 4th
Thursday of the month. I have questions but Bemis Hall is constantly
ringing busy today.
Thanks,

[LincolnTalk] corn at Matlock FArm

2021-08-02 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Matlock Farm does not appear to be selling any of their veggies as far as
I know.
Does anyone have any news about that?
i am especially interested in their corn because my understanding is that
it is organic or at least very low pesticide.
Thanks,

Re: [LincolnTalk] peaches from the georgia peach turck?

2021-08-13 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
I just bought a half dozen of the most juicy, delicious, peaches from Henry
Viles at his farmstand on Viles Rd. Weston. He has expanded the vegetable
stand and has almost every garden delight and fruits right now. I think
they are even organic.
Just past the tracks and pay cash-the honor system.

Did you have to have it professionally installed or did you do it yourself?

Re: [LincolnTalk] Black mold

2021-10-21 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Yes, mold is a health risk and black mold is the worst. I've been looking
into ways to remediate and will pass along what i'm learning:

First, if you've been exposed to black mold I'd suggest you avail yourself
to the Mold Protocol by Richie Shoemaker www.survivingmold.com

Master Herbalist/Shaman Tommy Priester in Lincoln extremely knowledgeable
about mold and lmk if you cannot find his contact info and I'll send it to
you.

This company (https://nutri-spec.net/), sells this spray that kills mold on
contact but if it is not visible it is reportedly also effective to spray
on walls once per/week to address any mold in walls/floors/ceiling etc?
https://nutri-spec.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Benefect-For-Website.pdf
.
This co also sells mold plates that are an easy way to check the presence
of mold in your home.

If you prefer a home-made brew combine equal parts of the following 3
ingredients - white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, distilled water. That is
said to kill mold on contact (with the caveat that there are many types of
mold so it may not work for all and I do not know whether it is effective
in killing black mold):

This company https://www.vollara.com/ makes a machine that I just signed up
to be a distributor for. There are two different models one with ionizer +
ozone, and the other is ionizer only. Both are purported to remediate the
air up to 2k sq ft. I can help you get one of these if you are
interested.

Lastly, mold grows according to conditions and since you have a highly
toxic form of mold, I'd suggest that you call in a professional to
remediate the mold. LMK if you need recommendations.

Thank you Jamie, for posting these articles.

There is simply no valid or sane reason to dispute the growing body of

health of all living beings and the environment.

I hope all states soon follow CA's lead and may they be forever banned

[LincolnTalk] Large area rugs

2021-11-10 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello LT,

I am searching for a couple very large area rugs and to keep costs low, I
have checked facebook marketplace and craigslist. We have seen offers and
items for sale for just about everything on the
Lincolntalk store/digest/virtual swap table so I am checking here.
I am looking for 8'x10', and larger sizes.
Buying rugs used can be dicey because it would need to be a rug that has
not been exposed to smoke, pet stains/odors, or heavily shoe trafficked.
Wool, heavy cotton, or jute/natural fiber are best. I'd be happy to
consider anything that fits those criteria and welcome hearing from anyone
that may like to sell.

And, also open to suggestions about sources other than craigslist or
facebook market.

Thanks

Re: [LincolnTalk] Seeking Housecleaner

2021-11-14 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
I can confidently recommend Aura Cabrera 617-407-3141 and her team of two other
women. I picked up her name from someone else on this list who recommended her
and recently had a very good experience using her services. She speaks good
English and is also a very good person.
The three of them worked more than three hours and charged me $300.

I am chemically sensitive and she was more than happy to use my products
instead of her usual which for me was the clincher.

If you get in touch with her you can say that I recommended her. Her husband
Hugo also does handy person work although I have not used his services.

[LincolnTalk] Upholstery cleaner of small wet vac

2021-12-15 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello,

I am wanting to clean some wall-to-wall carpeting in my place and thinking
that an upholstery cleaner or wet vac would come in handy for the task.
Does anyone have one that I may borrow?
I know that they may be rented from Home Depot but even the smallest one is
unruly.

Thanks,

Re: [LincolnTalk] Old Computers

2021-12-16 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
This is in response to your request of where to donate old computers. I am
sharing this resource that I learned about from someone else on this list
and have benefited from using them.

I suggest you reach out to Adam Frost https://computercareandlearning.com/
who is part of the Boston Network Users Group (BNUG), and helps run a
weekly Computer Clinic called Get Connected which I have attended numerous
times. Part of their mission is to supply computers to those in need who
cannot afford to buy one or who otherwise would not be able to get one.

I believe they supply them to 3rd world companies.

You can say i referred you if you get in touch with them

Season's Greetings,

I am looking for how/where to analyze the filtered water coming out of my

have any familiarity with a lab that does water analysis at an affordable
cost for consumers / homeowners ?

I'd appreciate hearing any helpful recommendations.

[LincolnTalk] ISO Laundry Drying Racks

Hello All

I am in the market for wooden laundry drying racks as the ones I had just
got too old. I need one that is extra large, preferably or two that are
large/normal size. Just checking here on the list in case anyone has one
or two not in use that they'd like to sell, or unload.

Thanks very much!!

Re: [LincolnTalk] seeking window shades/curtains store

2022-01-04 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
I just recently had a great experience ordering blinds at Home Depot.
They have what appears to me to be a great variety at varying prices.
Renata in the flooring and window treatment department is great and really
helps you decide what best suits your needs.
I highly recommend her.
Plus for an extra $fee you can hire their installation guy who will come and
take all the exact measurements and install them when they arrive. Not exactly
sure what that amount is because they gave me a discount and I paid only $50
for that.
It was all very professionally done and I am quite satisfied.

Hope this helps.

[LincolnTalk] DIY natural fly traps at home?

2022-01-21 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
I love having cows as my neighbors here in Lincoln but it isn't without its
pesky annoyances. Flies, ladybugs, stink bugs winter over in the walls and
find their way into every room. Does anyone know of some really effective
but natural, (i.e. non-toxic), ways to trap flies? I've tried vinegar,
dish soap, and sugar solution and it doesn't seem to work. I've googled and
read what there seems to be about this and that recipe was pretty much all
I could find. They have died back in the cold but do emerge on sunny days
with the sun hitting the windows and on any given warm day, there could be
up to 10-15 flies in every room!! I'd love to figure out how to catch
flies only, and not the ladybugs and stink bugs, but alas, I accept that I
may have to see the demise of those more favorable bugs in the pursuit to
be fly-free!.

While they aren't a huge problem now, I want to be ready for warmer
weather when they start to emerge in droves again.

Any helpful suggestions are most appreciated.
Thank you

[LincolnTalk] Fwd: mirror framing?

2022-01-25 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello

I am looking to frame an oval beveled glass mirror that has sentimental
value as it belonged to my mother. I am hoping to get some suggestions
from foks out here in Lincolnland. Custom made wooden frames are outside
my budget but, I have not found a frame alone without a picture or a mirror
in it, made with any type of material.
Does anyone know where to find empty frames and / or good crafts people in
the area who I could take it to to have it mounted?
Thanks.

Though you asked for XC ski spots in Lincoln, ideally, here are a couple
suggestions to add to Tim's ( albeit not all in Lincoln ) :

1. Minuteman Historical Trail

2. Flint Fields, off Old Lexington Rd.

3. Great Brook in Carlisle.

4. Ogilvie town forest, Weston - from Lincoln you can access Ogilvie from
Stonehedge road

[LincolnTalk] North Country rental?

2022-02-04 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello Neighbors,

Hope ya'll are safe and warm on this mid-winter day!

Me and my siblings are seeking a late winter rental in North Country - (NH,
ME, or VT), that can accommodate at least 4 people for 3 nights. Ideally,
would prefer to rent from a somewhat known entity as opposed to complete
strangers, or Airbnb type places, (though may consider a great Airbnb).

Does anyone have, or know about any rentals that fit the bill? .

Thank you,
*~Jai Anna*

interesting it was. A hour well-spent ! Thanks for making it part of

Re: [LincolnTalk] Printer problem

2022-02-19 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
I cannot help you fix your printer but I can share with you an online resource
which is the “computer learning clinic“ that I actually learned about from
somebody else on the list and have been attending fairly regularly for about a
year. It’s free although donations are accepted and you just have to contact
the moderator/teacher, Adam Frost (adamfr...@computercareandlearning.com),
I mention it particularly because the last few weeks has been a pretty in-depth
exploration into printers, their problems, and everything that has to do with
the upkeep. They can log on remotely and fix things using particular software
that you have to download to your computer. It’s all very safe and reputable,
if a little frustrating at times :)
Good luck!

[LincolnTalk] Nonchlorinated pool

2022-02-23 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Does anyone know of a lap pool in the area that uses a different type, and less
harsh purification system than chlorine - such as bromine or saline?
Longfellow in Wayland has a saline pool but their monthly rate of $100 is
higher than I want to spend and the Beede center in Concord used to have a
saline pool but they reverted to chlorine with new management.

Any other places?

Thanks,

[LincolnTalk] Septum surgery

2022-02-23 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello everybody

I’m interested to know from people here in Lincoln land who may have any
experience personally or vicariously with surgery for a deviated septum.
It’s been recommended to me by an ENT but I am cautiously approaching it
through research and hearing peoples experience with it. And, actually, I have
a double problem where the lower turbinates in both nostrils are enlarged and
overgrown and would require something called a turbinectomy in addition to the
surgery to fix the deviated septum.
Even though it’s a one day procedure, the recovery sounds pretty awful and
scary.
For anyone who’s had it done or knows someone who’s had it done, I’d like to
know whether it really significantly improved your quality of life and ability
to breathe and fully oxygenate that made the surgery totally worth it.

Thank you

helpful reading about the many aspects involved with this problem and the
surgery.

I am thrilled to be teaching my Pregnancy Massage to Couples

The course content has been carefully designed and augmented

It was one of my most popular workshops when I first taught
it as part of my involvement in the Complementary Medicine Program at
the (former) Boston Regional Medical Center in Stoneham.  We were
collecting data and were able to document that many couples bonded more closely, mothers
who received massage (from within the program, and/or from their partners) had easier pregnancies, and significantly better outcomes in the labor and delivery process.  Some who had difficult pregnancies and deliveries recovered more quickly postpartum
with in-hospital massage and acupuncture which enabled them to go home sooner.

Numerous parents wrote letters after their hospital experience
highlighting the care they received from the program as the best part of their
experience !  An interesting side-note and fyi - the Comp Med Program at
the former BRMC was sold to Winchester Hospital and remains running.

It is wonderful to empower couples with these effective skills that can also serve them well into the years following the
child-bearing year.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Dual Italian Citizenship?

2024-05-03 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Yes, me and my siblings went through the process of obtaining dual citizenship
with Italy.
We did not go through a lawyer and worked directly with the Italian Consulate
in Boston. You have to first establish eligibility and then there’s a long
list of required documents.
Nothing happens fast with Italian bureaucracy that is for sure, but other than
the wait and gathering documents it was relatively easy.

Happy to talk with you more about it.

***Plug in and Recharge! Light Up Your Energy System!*

*10 Class session *

**

*Monday, June 17th- August 26th 4:30-5:45pm*

**

We plug in to recharge batteries for so many devices these days but how do
we plug in and recharge our systems to keep things running smoothly? The
glands and the hormones they produce are the stewards of health. In this
class, learn specific yoga, breath, and energy body expansion practices to
balance the endocrine system, and their energy correlatives - the Chakras.

If you are struggling with a health condition, have chronic stress, health
concerns, and symptoms that seem unmanageable, or need to develop a daily
maintenance care practice, this class is for you.

This summer make a commitment to learn how to balance the flow of energy in
and out of your body, so you have a steady flow to manage each day and you
don’t get bogged down by the weight of responsibilities. Marvel at how your
body responds with increased vitality, strength, and calm, as all body and
mind functions improve through developing communication between your glands
and chakras – the major regulators. In this way, gain proficiency in the
art of self-upliftment to radiate your true essence. Suitable for adults
(18+ years), of all body types, this class blends floor, chair, and
standing poses and exercises, along with personal modifications to meet the
needs of a mixed-level class.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Good Thai food

2022-12-14 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed occasional Thai food from Green Papaya.
I don’t know if the vegetables are organic, but they seem good quality. And
it’s a nice place in which to dine.
I have also found the Thai food at The Treetop in Waltham to be well prepared,
and very tasty.
I don’t care for the dine-in experience at Treetop, but one of the proprietors
is an awesome portrait artist and his work is hanging on the walls, which is
nice to observe while you’re waiting for take out.

I’d love to find a Thai restaurant that sources organic veggies and meats. If
anyone knows something about that I’d like to hear

Re: [LincolnTalk] About Aureet — young woman drowned in Sandy Pond

2022-12-28 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
This tragic accident that ended Aureet’s life, happened about eight months
before I moved to Lincoln. But, soon after I moved here, I remember hearing
about it and that there had been a lot of questions about the rescue effort.
Since then, whenever I have walked around Sandy Pond, I always stop and stand
quietly at the stone marker and send a silent prayer. But I really never knew
who she was nor much of the details until reading this

It is such a sad story, but thank you very much for sharing it.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Window A/C units for short-term use

2023-08-27 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hi Mike,

Yes, I do have two window AC units that you may borrow. One is a 1200 BTU and
the other is 6500 BTU. For the latter, it would require you taking it out of
the window that it’s in currently. The 1200 BTU is currently not in use but it
works just fine.

Let me know if you want to come get them.

[LincolnTalk] ISO Printer to borrow or buy

2023-09-27 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello LT,

In the middle of a printing job of marketing materials, my Epson WF-3540
printer of many years decided to kick the bucket!

Does anyone have an inkjet color printer that I may borrow, or buy? Or, if
anyone has one that they don’t use or need they’d like to pass on, please let
me know.
I’m happy to make a donation to the food pantry.

Thanks,

[LincolnTalk] Inkjet or laser printer recommendations

2023-09-28 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
I’m in the market to buy another color printer - used or new – which I haven’t
done in years.
Other than researching this on Google, personal recommendations are better.
I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone about your favorite printer.
I’ve never owned a laser printer because I understand that they are much more
costly.
Affordability is important, but so is reliability.

Please get back to me if you have personal experience with a printer that meets
these criteria.
What color printer do you like and why?

Thanks so much!

Re: [LincolnTalk] Laundry

2023-10-04 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
If you’re looking for a DIY laundromat with machines large enough to take your
large bedspreads and quilts, I second the West Concord laundromat.
If you’re looking for a laundry service business that will wash them for you
using a different method other than dry cleaning, I recommend natures Way
cleaning on Waltham Street in Lexington.
Sal and his son are great.
They close at 2 PM.

[LincolnTalk] Sing with Mystic this spring!

2022-03-24 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Greetings Lincoln Neighbors,

Do you love to sing, and would you like to be part of an AMAZING,
life-changing experience?

Mystic Chorale is a non-audition based choir whose members range from
singing-in-the-shower, lovers of music, to world-class artists and
musicians. Our director, Nick Page, is retiring in November at the end of
the Fall season. So, only two more seasons under his extraordinary
leadership.

I really mean it when I say "life-changing" as I know the tremendous
positive impact being a member has made in my life since I joined in 1994.

If you've been to a Mystic concert, or even sung with Mystic, here's
another chance to experience it before Nick takes his final curtain call as
director.

Check out the info below.

Sing with Mystic Chorale this spring!

(live, with strict COVID safety precautions)

Come experience an amazing season with beloved Mystic Chorale Founder and
Artistic Director Nick Page, who after 32 years with the chorus will be
moving to Missouri after Mystic’s fall 2022 season. Nick: “For my last two
seasons with the Mystic I want to pull out all the stops. We will create
magnificence!” The season promises to lift the spirits and souls of singers
and audience alike.

The chorus will be joined by the amazing Donnell Patterson and will feature
the talented Louise Grasmere on vocals. The program for ARISE! will
include *Moon
is Walking*; *Glory, Glory Hallelujah*; *Every Day is a Day of Thanksgiving*
and Linda Hirschhorn’s *Lo V’Chayil* *(Not By Might, But With Love)*, with
lift- us-all-to-the-sky percussion. Drums will also be central to a rousing
South African *Haleluya*. Fittingly, the chorus will also sing *A Parting
Glass*, a Celtic good-bye song. This spring is sure to be both exhilarating
and stirring as the chorus begins to bid Nick farewell.

10 weeks of rehearsals begin on Tuesday, April 5th, 7:30-9:30 pm at First
Parish Unitarian, 630 Mass Ave., Arlington Center. Mystic will perform a
concert at Carey Hall in Lexington on June 10.

*Visit www.mysticchorale.org <http://www.mysticchorale.org> for more
information about Mystic Chorale, the season, safety precautions, and/or to
sign up to sing. *

Re: [LincolnTalk] The hummies are coming! The hummies are coming!

2022-04-10 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Yes, hummingbirds will soon be here.

A friend posted a cautionary piece of advice that I will pass along for
those who use a sweetened solution to attract hummingbirds. Do not use
honey or any sticky sweetener as apparently the stickiness can cause them
to be unable to retract their tongue which is necessary for them to feed
and hydrate. If that happens, they will die. Sugar only is what I hear.

[LincolnTalk] Chromebook vs/ laptop

2022-04-14 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Hello LT,

Appealing to any computer gurus or anyone out there with experience using a
chromebook. I am considering getting a more portable computer and have
used only a laptop in the past. A friend is offering up a chromebook and
Google reads that the main difference being the operating system is not
Windows but a web based chrome OS. Wondering if anyone had some
recommendations about their use.

What do you like/not like ? How would you describe its advantages /
disadvantages between it and a laptop? Does it meet your needs and are you
happy with its performance?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

[LincolnTalk] Passover/Easter/Full Moon Blessing

2022-04-16 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
*April Prayer*

Just before the green begins there is the hint of green
a blush of color, and the red buds thicken
the ends of the maple's branches and everything
is poised before the start of a new world,
which is really the same world
just moving forward from bud
to flower to blossom to fruit
to harvest to sweet sleep, and the roots
await the next signal, every signal
every call a miracle and the switchboard
is lighting up and the operators are
standing by in the pledge drive we've
all been listening to: Go make the call.

[LincolnTalk] Sad news about Debra Stark

2022-04-20 Thread Annamaria San Antonio
Dear friends,

Many of you may already be aware but for those who are not, I regret to be
the bearer of sad news that Debra Stark of Debra's Natural Gourmet has
passed after suffering a heart attack on Saturday.

Like so many, I am so shocked and saddened by her untimely passing.

I met Debra in the mid-80’s at a meeting for small business owners at The
Concord Spice and Grain. I knew she was destined for greatness. I am so
grateful for all the many ways she, and her amazing Natural Gourmet store,
hugely benefited me in my life through the years, and the lives of
countless others.

It is such a loss for everyone and especially her family. She shall be
greatly missed but, her legacy lives on.

Hi everybody,

This may be a long shot but I've come not to underestimate the depth and
extent of knowledge and experience on our little Lincolntalk list.

Is there anyone who has some inside info about Savannah such as low cost
but good accommodations in mid-town? I am hoping to make it down there

searching Airbnb and google.

I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions anyone may have. . . .
