export to musescore
Dear community, is there a way to export lilypond to musescore? I don't want to give up using lilypond, but when I work with students and pupils, I've experienced that they have a lot of difficulties in using lilypond and that they prefer with a gui. Re: Beam positions and time signature spacing
Hi, I didn’t follow all of the discussion. But how about a summary at place where it can be found and used later? It seems like this won’t go into the lilypond code right now. From what I read, there are spacings that are good, some are debatable and some are agreed that they are not good (according to authorities (Gould) or personal opinion). This could help to focus on the relevant parts. Couldn’t that be conserved as a wish in the bugtracker for the time, when people who are able to do that have time to do so? Perhaps a subgroup of interested people could make a list of desired changes and rate them in terms of priority and with a reference or reason why. Just a suggestion on how to continue this from me. All the best Stefan Hi Thomas, the way to go would be MusicXML export. While this wish has popped up every now and then for years, Peter Bjuhr has just started to give it an actual try. We don't know how far this will get, but it will at least be a start for this very important improvement. When we've sorted out the options and have something like a "roadmap" we'll post about it again. Yes - what I had in mind was to use Denemo to create the LilyPond you need (then you can pass the Denemo file to your students). Only a limited amount of LilyPond syntax is parsed by Denemo. What works best is pasting LilyPond notes into a staff in Denemo, but sadly whole LilyPond file import rarely succeeds without pruning out various constructs that Denemo doesn't cope with. Re: LilyPond Video Tutorials (Beginner) UPDATE
Hello everyone, I would like to share an update regarding my beginner LilyPond tutorials on YouTube. I just uploaded the 20th tutorial this afternoon and I've finished mapping out the next 20 as well. In the coming videos, I'll start explaining the meat 'n potatoes of LilyPond and we'll be covering a full orchestral score project (including parts). I plan to cover tweaking, functions, shortcuts, and tricks I've learned along the way. I've been a bit busy recently so I haven't had time to upload them as fast as I'd like to but hopefully I'll have most of them up by the end of the month. For those interested in checking out the videos, here is the playlist: http://bit.ly/bcl-lilypond The tutorials clock in at around 80 minutes of lessons so far. If anyone has any feedback or requests for content, please let me know and I'd be happy to help. To get a good result required playing with both the within-system spacing (in the layout block via VerticalAxisGroup) and the between-system spacing (in the paper block -- see section 4.1 of the NR). I'm kind of a newbie to linux, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was. Thanks! On Linux, you can run lilypond from a terminal (shell). To verify that lilypond was installed, you just enter "lilypond -v" without the quotes. The result should be confirmation that the program was findable by linux. You can then compile your lilypond source files by entering, e.g. lilypond foo.ly, which would process a lilypond file named foo and produce a .PDF of the result. Much more comfortable to those coming from more gui-centric systems, would be to install a package such as Frescobaldi (my lilypond editor of choice) or one of the others mentioned on our website, under "Easier Editing". These editors can call lilypond for you, without you needing a terminal shell. The rest of the website, particularly the Learning Manual, will greatly repay the time spent in reviewing and working through examples, as well Finally, welcome to the LilyPond community!
