is there a way to get extra spacing between lyrics (verses).
i would want to make extra space so a person could translate a text (verse)
by hand. i'm using the \addlyrics command.

Hi Joram,

Frescobaldi sure can execute the program executable files from any of  
the locations. If you go to the configure menu and look into the  
section of configuring Lilypond you will see there is a possibility to  
set the locations of the executables (of lilypond, convert-ly and  
lilypond-book). Test it by putting in something else (try /usr/bin/ 
ddate or /usr/bin/less, or any other harmless command, remember what  
you do so you can revert it). In the conversation window in  
Frescobaldi you will then probably see an error-message associated  
with the command. That proves it executed another executable.


Be aware if you specify more then one version of Lilypond here,  
Frescobaldi will notice and search for an matching executable. Guard  
the version numbers reported to be sure. Your conclusion is definitely  
wrong, I repeat: check the paths!

Thanks, but that's not directly the problem, because it doesn't occur
with the lilypond version from the package repositories (ubuntu).
So "which" surely points me to that one installed in /usr/bin. But the
other two installations don't work.

I looked at it a bit more closely and there are some things I don't
understand:

I have three versions 2.14 (from the repository), 2.16 and 2.17 (from
the website):
2.142.162.17
installed in/usr/bin/home/.../sw/lilypond2.1x
convert-ly  is a py-script  is a link to lilypond-wrapper.python

This lilypond-wrapper then calls another convert-ly, which is then a
python script.

This led me to the conclusion that the "executables" in bin cannot be
used in Frescobaldi, but the ones in lilypond/usr/bin have to be used.
But that doesn't work either.

in case you have misspelled it). But Frescobaldi does not harmonize with

We are not using Guile 2.0 yet, and I doubt people would be happy about
an undiscussed change once we do.

The slurs look fine, and it's clear from the output that the parenthesized
trill note needs to go up higher. Maybe there is a way to do this with
padding or something else that will use Lilypond's automated spacing
correctly to move everything around without causing other collisions.

I perfectly understand the concepts of code points and all the  
problems associated with it, have been a systems programmer part of my  
life. And there is a big difference in processing unicode characters  
as data on which the program does its job and a symbol. But towards  
what is accepted as "characters" to be to compose a variable name (or  
macro, or identifier) should be agreed upon. I don't mind either way,  
but what is stated and documented should in theory be followed.


My suggestions: 1. Document quick-and-dirty that although these  
characters do seem to work, usage is at your own risk, at least at  
this moment in the current (and upcoming) versions, and 2. Let's put  
it on the wishlist to properly support these, test it extensively! and  
upgrade the doc.s correspondingly.


And indeed avoid this kind of changes at once because when something  
breaks down people will be unhappy i.m.h.o.

integrated \startTextSpan/\stopTextSpan-commands and added it to the
LSR:

Respectfully, you don't seem to be reading my posts. I said lilypond could
export the coordinates in my 2nd post, the one you responded to. What you
fail to realize is that the whole point is for lilypond to be the one to
deal with the coordinates. Regardless of how you want to have this done, it
is pointless for the user to have to use absolute coordinates in his tikz
code because of the reasons I previously gave.

So, if you want lilypond to export a coordinate list(hopefully more than
just a list of numbers, as that will be damn near useless) or to use some
markup language build in to lilypond, it must be done by lilypond because
lilypond is the only one that knows the actual coordinates.

I proposed that lilypond handle it inside ly code because it can remove
several extra steps such as automatically adding the overlay and allowing
for inline markup code. One could allow for a second tikz code section which
works on "marked" elements.

If I have to use `\draw (3.2, 5.8) -- (1.8, 4.5);` to draw a line between
two elements in a lilypond score then I am using absolute coordinates and it
is the worse way to do it. There is no other way to do this AFAIK.

BUT if I can do `\draw (note1) -- (note2);` then I'm using nodes and it is
the preferred way. This is using aliases for the coordinates, in which case,
lilypond can take care of the mapping for us. If the actual coordinates
change then it won't affect our code as much.

The thing about using tikz markup inside lilypond is it also takes away the
issue of having to figure out how to name objects. If the notes are exported
as note1,.,note1934 then `\draw (note45) --(note47);` is no better than
using absolute coordinates. Any change in the score(adding a note) would
affect the tikz code just as it would affect absolute coordinates. So your
naming has to be design to be relatively coordinate free(such as
ScoreA.StaffA.Bar34.Beat2.Note2) which would, generally, only require
changing the Bar number for major inserts(still not the best way). Using
inline markup fixes that problem completely(but, then, of course, clutters
up the ly code with tikz markup).

I used the full alist from IR 2.1.16 Lyrics
http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.17/Documentation/internals-big-page#lyrics
to make it possible to change some more settings (if wished) and added
it to a Lyrics-context.

This all so far was in my idea of a workflow for tikz graphs on
lilypond scores. Marking points in the lilypond input, giving them
symbolic names, then using those names to let you make a graph using
tikz. I remember to have said absolute coordinates is not the problem
as long as you do not see them.

All extra steps can be done in a script. There is no need to force
lilypond to do all steps by itself; as lilypond is aware of the
coordinates and the names you chose for them, I imagined a little
intrusive way of doing it, is exporting all the names along with the
coordinates. Then an external latex file with the tikz graph could use
those coordinates, but you only refer to them by their names. The
script could compose the overlay for you. I think this could be a way
of achieving the goal with minimum changes to lilypond.

IMO doing everything inside of lilypond is not a good idea because
lilypond does not use latex for anything.

roman numerals

Hi, what is the easiest way to notate a 
V/V (probably looks just like that)
viidim7/ii (a vii followed by a dim circle superscript and a 7 
superscript, then a slash then a ii)
iim7b5/vi? (either m7b5 superscript, or a half-dim circle superscript, 
then a slash then vi)

It doesn't look like chord mode likes it when I put i's and v's and I's and V's 
in there instead of note names.

I see the snippet here: http://lsr.dsi.unimi.it/LSR/Item?id=710 but am just 
curious if there is an easier way.

Two use cases: 
- I thought it might be nice to put chord qualities on a jazz lead for 
easier transposition, probably above the staff, above or alongside the existing 
chord symbols.
- I am wanting to simply batch-generate a whole mess of those symbols 
completely by themselves, with no staff or note above/below.

pitched trill spanner always displays accidental?

Hi there,

Is it normal for the pitched trill spanner to always display an accidental
for its parenthesized pitch, even if the parenthesized pitch is natural and
doesn't need one? Is there a way to override this? I'm finding it immensely
frustrating to get at any of the attributes of this parenthesized note.
