As long as you don't have any \key command in your code, no key
signature at all will be
typeset. Just add a
\key c \major
(or whatever signature) to get the desired symbol.
I hope you know about the built-in capabilities in LilyPond to handle
non-standard
key signatures. As long as you only want to have normal flat and sharp
symbols
in your custom key signature, there should be no need to typeset it
manually using markups.

As I just reported on the bug mailing list, I finally managed to find the culprit, namely that the property style was set on the TimeSignature grob. For older Kate versions, you can download the updated syntax definitions for LilyPond from http://www.kate-editor.org/syntax/2.5/lilypond.xml . Put the file in ~/.kde/share/apps/katepart/syntax/ (create the directory if it does not exist) and restart Kate. There is also a special LilyPond plugin for Kate named LilyKDE (I wrote it myself :-) with features such as a quick score wizard and "live" note entry using Rumor and a MIDI keyboard (or your computer keyboard). It runs in Kate (not KWrite) and it can be found at http://lilykde.googlecode.com/ . lilybond-book staffsize problem

I have stumbled over en problem with lilypond-book 2.8.1:
Using

The staff has the desired size (11pt), but the notes, clefs etc. are still at
20pt. When I use lilypond on its own (i.e. not lilypond-book) all is fine. Did I
miss anything to rescale note-symbols as well?

I put that in the example to make sure it happened, but in my score lilypond put 3 bars on one line like that, with the clef change on the next line, without any \noBreaks anywhere. Regardless, it seems it should be able to move the rest a bit to make space. I think Kwrite has the nicest syntax coloring, and for that reason I installed the Kubuntu desktop on my Ubuntu machine. I don't really like KDE, though, so most often I end up using Gedit instead, choosing the LaTeX coloring (not great). I might try Kate with LilyKDE, though. That sounds promising. JEdit has a nice Lilypond tool but in my latest install it looks really bad. I think I must have chosen the wrong Java environment or something. It's very grainy and cheap looking. I like the pdf preview function in JEdit, but it's not really necessary for me anymore because I wrote a shell script that does essentially the same thing. Emacs, to me, doesn't look good in a graphical environment (I think it's the same problem as JEdit? Grainy and fuzzy-looking), and the keybindings are all messed up, too. Every time I hit Alt+f I end up in the file menu instead of moving forward one word. Maybe there's a way to turn this off, but in the meantime the only way I can use Emacs is in a command-line-only environment. Slur in wrong place: rests too high: adjust stave separation for just one system
Dear All,
I'm using version 2.10.33
In the following extract, the slur from b to a is too high. Is there a
remedy for this? Also, why are the quaver rests so high? Do I have
to write c8\rest or something for each one? I started doing this but
this caused unexpected changes elsewhere so I gave up. Last question:
I'm fine getting the dynamics between the piano staves. Centered is
not really the right word as if a chord is on many leger lines, the dynamic
has to be lower down. However, when there are no dynamics or leger lines,
is it possible to bring the piano staves closer together for just one
system,
or do you have to set this distance for the entire score?
I have looked at the docs but may have missed something.

While it's a few more lines of code than yours, it is "more correct",
musically speaking.
What I mean by that is, my code really *has* changed the key
signature -- so that, for example, accidentals will work "as
expected", you won't have problems with transposition, the spacing of
the key signature elements are consistent, etc. -- whereas your code
simply makes the key signature *look* like it's been changed.

You can always use #'extra-offset to move it.

now) to see what you were doing wrong -- this should get you on the
