Re: i dont know what to do

2004-06-10 Thread Mats Bengtsson
LilyPond is one of these programs where you cannot expect to
do anything useful unless you read the manual, at least the
Tutorial. Also, I hope you have seen the Testing instructions at
http://lilypond.org/web/download/windows.html.

There is some support for drum scores, but this is not the part
of LilyPond that the most well-used and well supported.

The spacing is also determined by the extent of the Staff context,
search the mailing list archives if you cannot find out yourself.

Volta brackets and chaord symbols

2004-06-10 Thread Thomas Scharkowski
Hello list,

I have a chord symbol above the first note in a volta bracket.
This chord symbol collides with the bracket. Is it possible to move a
single chord symbol?
Changing the bracket height with
"\override Score.VoltaBracket #'minimum-space = #3" does not help,
the number still meets the bracket.
The other way around "\set Staff.minimumVerticalExtent = #'(-5. 9)"
does work, but the symbols are too far from the staff now.
Is there a way to place the chord symbols under the bracket?

Thank you,

Thomas

In my humble opinion, this is but a symptom of a more general,
underlying bug: Symbols that shouldn't collide, sometimes do.

I haven't quite managed to grasp, yet, why "a-.->" works wonderfully
while "a\f\tempo 4=90 \markup{Foo bar}" doesn't quite look good...[1]

Even if a "box algorithm" like TeX's isn't perfectly suitable to the
needs of music typesetting -- notes should at least be allowed to
"collide" with staff lines -- I think a stricter regime where most
symbols are not allowed to collide in the first place should be put in
place.

This requires some thought to how objects should be moved to avoid
collisions, e.g. which symbol should "yield" and move, and in what
direction.

[1] not tested right now; the lilypond installation on this box is a
bit old, but from memory the first example is OK and the second gives
a collision or two.

Hiding staffs with rests

2004-06-10 Thread Bertalan Fodor
Hello,

I have two problems (Lily 2.2.0):

1.

\partial 4*1 R2.

doesn't seem to work.

2.

I have two staffs in a choir staff. The second has 16 measures rest. I want
to hide the second staff in the systems that would only contain rests, but
in the system when second staff comes in I want the empty measures to
contain rest. So something like this:

1-notes-notes-notes

1-notes-notes-notes

1-notes-notes-notes
2-rest--rest--notes

I tried \set Score.skipBars = ##t, but that didn't hide the staff in the
first two systems.

Thank you in advance,

Bert

fontforge crashes while creating fonts

2004-06-10 Thread Ben Crowell
Hi All,

I had lilypond 2.0.3 working on my FreeBSD 5.2 system before, but now, after
reinstalling FreeBSD,
I can no longer get it to work. I've included the tail end of the output below. If I'm
interpreting
the output correctly, it appears to be crashing in FontForge, which I think is being
run from
mftrace. The snapshot of the FreeBSD port collection that comes with the FreeBSD 5.2
distribuition
contains lilypond 2.0.1, which also fails to install. Before,
I had been able to get lilypond working by updating my ports collection, and it
installed 2.0.3. Now,
however, updating the ports collection doesn't help. It appears that the lilypond port
was broken,
was then fixed, but now is broken again due to the problem with fontforge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ben

Trouble with notes in LaTeX

2004-06-10 Thread Thorkil Wolvendans
Hi group!
In Latex I'm writing performing instructions. At a certain point I write:
(...) ought to be played at tempo [sixteenth note here] = 368 ([quater note
here] = 92).

My question is: is it possible to show the sixteenth and quarter note in
LaTeX? (I suppose I should use the feta-font somehow)

I read the 'Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX', it tells nothing about
invoking notes (although it seems to be possible to enter sharps and flats
in mathematical context), so I thought I'd give a shout here.

Any help would be very welcome!
Regards,
Thorkil

This should point you in the right direction:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg08119.html
(in the body of the LaTeX, I used \fetachar\fetasegno to get the
appropriate
symbol)

I'm not certain what exact name you want to get notes, but I'm certain
it's possible.
Cheers,

Sorry, I have mispelled it in the mail.

So, when I say
\time 4/4
\partial 4*3 R2. | c4 d e f |

I get a barcheck warning and there is no rest printed in the first measure.
