Changing time signature

2003-02-08 Thread Marco Caliari
Hi.

Changing a time signature, say from 2/4 to 6/8, it is common to find, over
the last bar of the previous time

saying that the previous quarter note shoud have the same (time) duration
of the following quarter dotted note. How to reproduce with Lilypond?

Check this place in the result. You'll probably see the
problem, eg. a whole note touching the stem of a quarter
from the other voice/thread (I don't know the numeric codes
by heart). Once you see it, you can fix it by changing stem
direction, note shifting or the like. Good luck!

Check 'Text scripts' in the manual (using the music fonts).
There is a tempo notation example, which you can probably
adapt.

Thanks for the suggestion. Right place, unfortunately no solution
there.

I've stripped the source to the absolute minimum to reproduce the
problem. Ultimately I've determined that the problem has nothing to do
with the notes at all, but rather with some 'stemUp', 'stemDown' macros
I'd created ... while not consistent, if I use the macro before a space
the problem occurs but if I let the stems of the first note start by
going their 'natural' (Lilypond defined) direction to start, then I can
use the macros as intended.

How to "troubleshoot" page layout

2003-02-08 Thread Daniel Ashton

Greetings,

I've just typeset 8 brass parts, and each part has one or two staves on
page 2. Do you have a checklist of things to adjust, little by little,
to bring all the music onto one page?

Thanks,

Daniel
