Merge request for documentation

2021-08-22 Thread Knute Snortum
On the LilyPond users' list, I proposed some changes to the
documentation. It was suggested that I submit a merge request for
this change, but I'm having a tough time doing that because when I try
to push to my fork, I get a permissions error. What have I done
wrong?

- begin command line output
$ git remote -v
fork g...@gitlab.com:ksnortum/lilypond.git (fetch)
fork g...@gitlab.com:ksnortum/lilypond.git (push)
origin https://gitlab.com/lilypond/lilypond.git (fetch)
origin https://gitlab.com/lilypond/lilypond.git (push)

$ git push fork dev/doc-accidental
g...@gitlab.com: Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive).
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.
- end command line output

I hadn't, and when I did that, everything worked fine. Thank you!

It looks like we went back to shell installation, is that correct?

Oh, I see what happened. The 2.22.2 version is on the 2.23
development download page.

Okay, it's even stranger than I thought. It's this URL:

https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation/web/unix

...but the only way I can get to it is:

https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation -> web -> download -> unix.

It must be a Google thing -- even though I just tried to get to that
page through a Google search and couldn't. Weird. Well, it's
probably not something people are going to run into frequently.

Ah, this ties in to what I posted early. The webpage...

https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation/learning/command-line-setup

...has a link labeled Download that leads to this page:

https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation/web/download

It has "v2.23" in the URL, but the page still says "Downloads for
LilyPond 2.22.2" Following this link you get to:

https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.23/Documentation/web/unix

Which is the best page I found earlier. It has 2.22 downloads.

Just as a note, I'm on Windows 11 and the first example compiles
without error using 2.23.13.

I successfully ran a seven movement piece with 2.23.81 in both Linux
22.04 and Windows 11.

Just a note on the Windows side. Norton did not like lilypond.exe at
all and Windows didn't either. Lots of blocking the program from
writing. I don't know if anything can be done on the LilyPond side.
Do people register their programs and certify them or something?

I tried it out of seven or eight Chopin Etudes on both Ubuntu 22.04
and Windows 11 and found no problems.

Am I missing something? The download page seems to still be pointing at 2.24.0.

Well, now that I know about it, I might use it if I was confused about the
choices convert-ly made in changing my source code. But I guess I don't
understand the reason for removing it. Less maintenance?

So sad to hear of Urs's passing. He was a great contributor to the
