See this ticket on Redmine:

it's monitored currently.

I reported the issue that Sophie pointed to. My experience is that quite
often it's fine, and a bit less often it's really bad...
But to be honest: I enter Pootle quite irregular.

+1 LibreOffice Pootle server is usually very slow. Every few minutes it
blocks and then I need to wait for a min or two until it starts working
again.

Hi everybody,

Am I the only one experiencing a very slow Pootle server (
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/)? Sometimes I have to wait
minutes for a request to return, and the browser window even becomes
unresponsive in Chrome during the wait.

At first I thought that it was just Pootle that for some reason couldn't be
any faster, but then I tried working on the translation of Pootle itself,
which takes place at http://pootle.locamotion.org/. And wow, what a speed
that Pootle installation has! It felt 5 or 10 times faster, and I think in
total I was at least twice or three times as efficient in my work on that
server compared to my work on LibreOffice. Working on that server, you can
actually browse through all translations one by one (for instance using
Ctrl+,) at a speed close to editing a word processing document locally on
your computer!

Are we simply talking lack of funds for a more capable server, or is there
something else wrong with our Pootle installation or setup?

Or do we have different servers for each language so that only the Danish
server is slow? How's the setup?

I am sure our Pootle administrators are doing their very best with the
resources available, but I am just curious to hear a little more about what
is happening.

Best regards,
Jesper

Will you also remove 4.1 and 4.2 projects?

Pootle is very slow
* on initial startup (not the problem in this case, as it runs normally)
* when requesting files for download (aka syncing the files to disk)
due to the way it works, this covers the whole project, not the
file/directory you're interested in.
So when you want to download files for offline translation, you have
to wait some time until it is served, but other files right after that
will be fast
* when updating against templates (again this involves syncing and
loading back into the database, thus it takes a while)
* creating search index (also only needed from time to time)

And LO of course is huge project. Don't compare it to other
installations that have in total less strings than a single language
in LO...

head over to Apache's pootle for a fairer comparison... It'll make
your browser "freeze" (not really, just it will appear the page has
finished loading, but your curser will not react to hover, etc, and of
course you won't get translations until you wait patiently). But once
you waited for the page to load, and then visit the page again, it
will have the stuff loaded much quicker.

Compared to that we don't need to hide..

That being said: Our setup surely can be tweaked - but without knowing
what exactly the problem is, there's not much to do. What would help
is faster i/o (that always helps if stuff is too big to fit in RAM..
i.e. SSD / RAID) - but of course it would be nice if the actual
bottleneck can also be identified.

Yeah, it creates all po-file on export from the database, at least it
sticks a new timestamp into each...

But I didn't do any debugging to see where the time is spent exactly.
