I am new to this list and am not a coder. I am a retired mainframe
programmer and have been a user of Open Office since its introduction.
In fact, I even used Star Office before that. I have just recently
downloaded Libre Office because of the uncertainty I perceive about
Open Office.

I would like to know what is necessary to add a new language to Libre
Office. I would imagine that coding is not necessary but only
translations need to be done, but where does one start?

You're right, coding is not necessary at all. A (very) short intro on
localizing LibreOffice is available at
https://translations.**documentfoundation.org/.

In any case, writing to
this list is a very good first step.

The language I'm interested in adding is Neapolitan. I does not have a
two-letter identifier, but ISO 639-2 assigns it a three-letter
identifier of
"nap" but it is not included in the list of languages at the site in
your
link above.

I believe this list is where I am supposed to make the request that
it be
added, so I hereby request that Neapolitan be added to the list.

Have you created a pootle account?
https://translations.documentfoundation.org

Yes, I have.

Let me add that my userid is casaerwin

OK, your account has been set up. You can start translating LibreOffice
3.4 UI in Pootle. In fact your language will be added to LibreOffice 3.5
only but that project has not been set up yet. I'll migrate your
existing translations to 3.5 when the time comes.

Thanks,
Andras

Version 1 of the API is still free for a few months. This is what is
supported by Pootle.

If this is useful for teams, I guess it is fine to enable, as long as
every team member is fully aware of the limitations of machine
translation, and understand the amount of editing that might be
required.

We don't need to choose. Pootle already supports Apertium as well, and
this is probably better for several of the supported language pairs of
Apertium. It can be enabled alongside Google if wanted.

The buttons are only shown for supported languages.

Many thanks for your hints. Now I enabled both Apertium and Google
Translate on translations.documentfoundation.org. Both seem to be
working.

Translators, please take care with machine translations. ;-)

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Irish translation update

Hi everyone,
I just updated the Irish translation of LibreOffice and have 3.4
at almost 100%. I'm not working through Pootle though, and I don't
see anything on the wiki about how translations are delivered if this
is the case. I have a stable URL with our latest SDF file, here:

http://borel.slu.edu/obair/GSI_ga.sdf.bz2

Can I ensure somehow that this SDF is used to generate builds?

The source format of LibreOffice translations is PO, not SDF. I can
convert and integrate your translation, but I'd prefer if you used
Pootle. You don't need to translate there. Just upload the PO files.
Irish is set up in Pootle. The next release, LibreOffice 3.4.4 will be
released in October, so you have time until then. BTW I could nt
download GSI_ga.sdf.bz2 from the above URL. The server may be down.

Also, could someone set up ga.libreoffice.org for us?

Please follow the steps explained here to get a website in your language:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/NewWebsiteNLT

Many thanks,
Andras

Hi Juan Pablo,

In an_ES.dic the word list is not sorted and not unique (e.g. the first
entry, abandonar/ACDE, is duplicated – that's why I noticed it).

Did you test this dictionary? Maybe it's not a problem, but still...

Best regards,
