[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
Created attachment 282319 Threadripper 2920x soft lockup I've went through this thread, and tried to disable c6 state, add idle=halt with no effect. Followed this excellent reprod steps in https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/apw8im/ryzen_freezes_in_linux_even_if_linux_is_in_vm/ It is pretty consistent. However, switching to gcc-8 seems resolved this for this particular reprod steps. With dmesg -w, I was able to capture and verify this is indeed a soft lockup. Attached the dmesg output. It is a Threadripper 2920x with MSI x399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC with latest BIOS on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
Hey, Klaus, My understanding of that issue is it only affects Ryzen 1700 / 1700x and doesn't affect Epyc / TR line. I am on ThreadRipper 2920x, which should be out of marginality problem for over a year now. Also, it doesn't SegFault at any point, just hangs. I do believe it is the similar problem as this thread, but since it is rare, so it could be just one faulty CPU for sure. Just doesn't align well with marginality problem timeline. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, We aregetting various kernel crash on a pretty new config. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2072612]
I am also experiencing the same issue on my Thinkbook 14p G2 ACH laptop. I also have my touchpad first become somewhat unresponsive for a few seconds and then completely lost input. Running `rmmod i2c_hid_acpi i2c_hid` before suspend, and running `modprobe i2c_hid_acpi` after resume usually resolves the issue. My dmesg of a touchpad failure looks like this: ``` [20963.423965] i2c_hid_acpi i2c-ELAN06FA:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65280) [21054.169840] i2c_hid_acpi i2c-ELAN06FA:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65280) [21075.908772] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: controller timed out [21075.912734] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: timeout in disabling adapter [21075.933075] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: timeout waiting for bus ready [21075.953175] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: timeout waiting for bus ready [21075.973515] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: timeout waiting for bus ready [21075.993702] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: timeout waiting for bus ready [21076.013951] i2c_designware AMDI0010:03: timeout waiting for bus ready ``` My BIOS version is GWCN47WW (up to date, released on 2024/04/01), and my `amd_pmc` firmware version is 64.72.0 (hope this can help find the corresponding AGESA version). Flickering visible on video here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/HCN73q1nQfgstgVBA I've used ubuntu-bug so I believe you have all the details of the machine. The install came straight from your standard 18.04 download. Any changes are due to me trying to fix this (not much prev exp of kernel params etc) Things tried but which didn't work were: - enable huc/guc (got it to load - it's now visible in the attached dmesg - but didn't help.) - enable_rc6=0 (just stopped sleep / resume working) - edp_vswing=2 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-30.32-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-30-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CompositorRunning: None Date: Tue Aug 7 23:09:14 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 [8086:5917] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo UHD Graphics 620 [17aa:39af] InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-08-06 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf3:e500 Atheros Communications, Inc. Likely identical, especially if disabling fbc from command line works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1840236 Title: Horizontal corrupted line at top of screen caused by framebuffer compression Status in HWE Next: New Status in Linux: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux-oem-osp1 package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux source package in Bionic: Invalid Status in linux-oem-osp1 source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in linux source package in Disco: Invalid Status in linux-oem-osp1 source package in Disco: New Status in linux source package in Eoan: Fix Released Status in linux-oem-osp1 source package in Eoan: New Bug description: SRU Justification: [Impact] On IceLake platforms there might be a thin, horizon strap of corruption image at the top of screen randomly after some series of window operations and disappears within a second or so. This is found on multiple platforms and is quite annonying that results in bad user experience. [Fix] The upstream bug has been filed for previous platforms, e.g. GeminiLake for an year or so, still working in progress, and so far this only known work-around is to turn off framebuffer compression on affected platforms. [Test Case] The most easy way is to observe if such corruption appears during the transition from GDM to gnome-shell. [Regression Risk] Low. The work-around for GeminiLake was landed to Linux stable 4.14.125 and has been backported to B/D. === Original Description == This is an follow-up for https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id-108085 but found on IceLake platforms. Right after GDM is login screen is rendered, there might be a thin strap of corrupted image at top of the display for a short while. Like f-d-o bug 108085, sometimes it can also be reproduced by clicking the date/time repeatedly to open and close the calendar several times. Etc. Known work-around so far is to append kernel boot param "i915.enable_fbc=0". [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1928393] Re: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault"
It is the Blue-Tooth Driver. I Got This Too on my Acer Aspire F5-573 series "Laptop" There is a sticker that says "Intel i-5 core" Know amd is a possablity ? I Do not think My Processor Is an amd? Also It set my Screen Res to like 1377x768 (Its a 6k screen) 17" screen When I was On Windows "Yes I had to switch off Windows Because my Windows 11 os failed" It was installed When I installed viurtalbox or kodi. It is like a nightmare. I lost function of my usb 1.0 driver. It installs a pnp driver that do not exsist. The pnp Driver is a printer driver that is pointing to your desktop. I Think This Is a Virus That is effecting other systems like My Self. Thanks -- I-Cat -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928393 Title: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault" Status in amd: New Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading linux-firmware from 1.190.5 to 1.197 (as part of the upgrade from Ubuntu 20.10 to 21.04), I started experiencing frequent and severe GPU instability. Many of the times when this happens, the screen and keyboard freeze irreversibly (I tried waiting for more than 30 minutes, but it doesn't help). I can still log in via ssh though. When there's no freeze, I can continue using the computer normally, but the laptop fans keep running are always running and the battery depletes fast. There's probably something on a permanent loop either in the kernel or in the GPU. This bug happens several times a day, rendering the machine so unstable as to be almost unusable. It is a severe regression and I'm aghast that it passed AMD's Quality Assurance. After downgrading back to linux-firmware 1.190.5, the machine is back to the previous, mostly-reliable state. Which is to say, this bug is gone, I'm just left with the other amdgpu suspend bug I've learned to live with since I bought this computer. Please revert the amdgpu firmware in this package as soon as possible. This is unbearable. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1552668] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 00007f4cd3dac000
I'm seeing this as well. My setup is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.4 with VMWare Fusion 5.0.1 The problem happens after I remove an Aegis Secure Key 3.0 USB Memory Stick. After this Oops it appears that no new processes can be created (I suspect some critical lock is left locked). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1878045] Re: doing dist-upgrade got error related do Broadcom
I am also on 20.04.1 and my wifi connection has never worked. I have BCM4312. I tried all the steps above, but it did not work. It can detect if I am on airplane mode, but it does not switch to wi-fi. I have followed all the https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214110 previous threads too. The Additional drivers, the Broadcom ones (device is not working). Using broadcom 802 does not allow me to select (I was able to select before between Broadcom, continue using manually, do not use device). At the moment it is set on 'do not use device' and it won't unselect from this option. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1812359] Re: No login screen displayed on a NETBOX nT-435/535 (kernel reports an LVDS output which does not exist as connected and on)
Okay thanks, Here I found something new in Ubuntu 18.04.2, I thought about to install kernel 4.15.0-43, login screen appeared but resolution issue and not network adapter, neither ethernet nor wireless, so just leave it Then for kernel 4.15.0-45-generic, I've disabled wayland During booting, ubuntu logo appeared (seems like when we set nomodeset), then splash divided into two(ubuntu logo left and right side) and after a minute login screen appeared, but after login, just a wallpaper and nothing like it's freezing, same issue. Please check a log if you can find something new. ** Attachment added: "journalctl -b-1 > 18.04.2_boot_4.15.0-45.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1812359/+attachment/5234958/+files/18.04.2_boot_4.15.0-45.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1812359 Title: No login screen displayed on a NETBOX nT-435/535 (kernel reports an LVDS output which does not exist as connected and on) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: On a machine with only one display (VGA), the kernel is reporting two: grep . /sys/class/drm/*/enabled /sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/enabled:enabled /sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/enabled:enabled ls /sys/class/drm card0 card0-LVDS-1 card0-VGA-1 renderD128 version grep . /sys/class/drm/*/dpms /sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/dpms:On /sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/dpms:On which then triggers bug 1760849 and the login screen is never visible. --- $ dpkg -s mutter Package: mutter Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: x11 Installed-Size: 101 Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers Architecture: amd64 Version: 3.28.3-2~ubuntu18.04.2 Provides: x-window-manager Depends: libc6 (>= 2.4), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.53.2), libmutter-2-0 (>= 3.28.2), libx11-6, libxcomposite1 (>= 1:0.3-1), mutter-common (>= 3.28.3-2~ubuntu18.04.2), gnome-settings-daemon, gsettings-desktop-schemas (>= 3.21.4), zenity Suggests: gnome-control-center (>= 1:3.25.2), xdg-user-dirs Description: lightweight GTK+ window manager Mutter is a small window manager, using GTK+ and Clutter to do everything. . [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1910496] Re: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1910496] Re: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build
For future reference, if anyone has the same issue I fixed it by upgrading the driver to the version `nvidia-driver-460`. So fix: ``` # Allow yourself to get the newest driver versions sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa sudo apt install nvidia-driver-460 ``` I also threw in a `sudo apt-get purge nvidia*` for good measure. I did have to `cd /` otherwise the purge would fail. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910496 Title: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: 123 ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-59.65-generic 5.4.78 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-59-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.12 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip DKMSKernelVersion: 5.8.0-34-generic Date: Thu Jan 7 09:20:34 2021 DuplicateSignature: dkms:nvidia-dkms-440:440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1:/var/lib/dkms/nvidia/440.100/build/common/inc/nv-linux.h:512:17: error: too many arguments to function ‘__vmalloc’ InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-06-22 (198 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) PackageVersion: 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 Python3Details: /usr/bin/python3.8, Python 3.8.5, python3-minimal, 3.8.2-0ubuntu2 PythonDetails: /usr/bin/python2.7, Python 2.7.18rc1, python-is-python2, 2.7.17-4 RelatedPackageVersions: dpkg 1.19.7ubuntu3 apt 2.0.2ubuntu0.2 SourcePackage: nvidia-graphics-drivers-440 Title: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-440/+bug/1910496/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
