[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1882992] [NEW] Upon update te 5.4.0-37-generic, boot hangs with black screen

2020-06-10 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

Upon updating to linux-5.p.0-37 this morning, it asked me to restart,
and when it did, all I had was a black screen. I could see the power
was on, because the power led was lit. I rebooted a couple times with
the same result. Then rebooted to single user, did fsck, repair broken
packages, and rebooted, and it came up, but not using both monitors. So
I did another update of the packages, and rebooted. It was still black.
I ended up rebooting on the previous kernel, and it works now, and I'm
submitting this bug report using that setup. If it would be helpful, I
can reboot single user, and eventually get it up with only the laptop
monitor, and submit a ubuntu-bug report that way too.

Thanks for your great work on Ubuntu!

Rob

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1846857] [NEW] After upgrading to kernel 5.0.0-31-generic:amd64, click with one finger and drag with the other doesn't work on the touchpad.

2019-10-04 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to linux kernel 5.0.0-31. When I use the trackpad on my
Lenovo Yoga 260 to click with one finger, and drag with another, it
doesn't move the thing I'm trying to drag. If I use one finger, it
works fine, but its hard to drag it far with only one finger, because I
can't pick the finger up and move it back to drag some more. I went and
booted from 5.0.0-29, and everything is fine again. I'm back to
5.0.0-31 and the problem is back.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1850444] [NEW] Cannot connect headset to A2DP anymore....

2019-10-29 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

As of October 29, I can no longer connect to my Sony MDR-1000x headphones using
A2DP. The gnome sound manager has the setting, but when I select it and use
the test button, it is only mono. I tried the gnome extension
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/906/sound-output-device-chooser/ and the
option is always grayed out there. I tried to make A2DP the default using the
method described here:
https://medium.com/@overcode/fixing-bluetooth-in-ubuntu-pop-os-18-04-d4b8dbf7ddd6
I tried to install some tools to try and get a better idea what might be going
on. In case it was a recent update, here are the last few days of my update
log:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1874194] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 HDMI connected, no boot

2020-10-07 Thread Rob Frohne
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1872159 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872159

This bug also affects me with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.10 beta. The
kernel is 5.8.0-20-generic. If I hit esc when it is stuck on booting, I
can see it is waiting. The boot message is too cryptic for me, but
maybe someone else has an idea. I'm using a Lenovo too (Yoga 260).
Here is a photo of the boot messages.

I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 (using the image created on 20 april) on

The problem i am facing is that when i have an external monitor
connected to the laptop through the HDMI connector of the laptop,
Ubuntu does not boot and hangs on the splash screen. I have not found
any way to get logging on any kind.

Before i was running Ubuntu 18.04 and did not have any problems with
the monitor and HDMI cable. After boot is finished (without monitor
connected) inserting the HDMI cable works fine and i can use the
monitor and laptop screen without any problem.

I have installed the preferred nVida proprietary driver. Also it does
not matter if booting with nVidia selected or Intel selected.

I can confirm that in 20.10 removing "quiet splash" allows it to boot,
and for me that is better anyway.

Title:
Upon update te 5.4.0-37-generic, boot hangs with black screen

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Upon updating to linux-5.p.0-37 this morning, it asked me to restart,
and when it did, all I had was a black screen. I could see the power
was on, because the power led was lit. I rebooted a couple times with
the same result. Then rebooted to single user, did fsck, repair
broken packages, and rebooted, and it came up, but not using both
monitors. So I did another update of the packages, and rebooted. It
was still black. I ended up rebooting on the previous kernel, and it
works now, and I'm submitting this bug report using that setup. If it
would be helpful, I can reboot single user, and eventually get it up
with only the laptop monitor, and submit a ubuntu-bug report that way
  too.

Thanks for your great work on Ubuntu!

I tried it again, and it seems to suspend okay, but on resume there is a
black screen, and no response to typing in the password.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1999994] [NEW] Bluetooth broken with Lenovo A475 and Kernel 5.19.0-26-generic

2022-12-17 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I upgraded my Lenovo A475 to Ubuntu 22.10, and have been fixing problems. The
latest one is that Bluetooth doesn't work. I found the Bluetooth kernel
modules, Bluetooth, btusb, btmtb, btintel, btrtl, bnep, and btbcm did not load.
I added them to /etc/modules, and the loaded, but Bluetooth still doesn't
work. I went back to kernel 5.15.0-56-generic and Bluetooth works perfectly.
Let me know if I can help debug this by testing.
Thanks,
Rob

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1999994] Re: Bluetooth broken with Lenovo A475 and Kernel 5.19.0-26-generic

2022-12-17 Thread Rob Frohne
Wow! So I just rebooted into the 5.19 kernel, and submitted this bug report,
and then afterwards, I find Bluetooth is working! I had rebooted numerous
times before trying to debug this, and never did that fix it. So it looks like
it works now, even though I'm not sure exactly the things I did that fixed it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970290] [NEW] Resume doesn't work on Lenovo Yoga 260

2022-04-25 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

It worked just fine with previous versions of Ubuntu. I tried to switch back
to the 5.13 kernel, and it appeared to work a little better, but didn't fully
resume either, but appeared to get closer. With the 5.27 kernel, the LED for
power continues to flash until you hold the power button down for a long time.
With 5.13 the power light goes solid (as it should) but the screen remains
black.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970290] Re: Resume doesn't work on Lenovo Yoga 260

2022-05-02 Thread Rob Frohne
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1963802 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963802

I think this is a duplicate of Bug #1963802, because following the lead
there, I was able to work around the problem by disabling the Security
chip via the BIOS.

Title:
Resume doesn't work on Lenovo Yoga 260

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
It worked just fine with previous versions of Ubuntu. I tried to switch back
to the 5.13 kernel, and it appeared to work a little better, but didn't fully
resume either, but appeared to get closer. With the 5.27 kernel, the LED for
power continues to flash until you hold the power button down for a long time.
With 5.13 the power light goes solid (as it should) but the screen remains
black.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1954610] [NEW] Suspend and Shutdown Don't Work on AMD Processor

2021-12-12 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

Hi,
With this kernel (5.13.0-22-generic), when you shut down, the screen goes
black, but the power LED never goes out. You have to hold the power button for
a while to force it to shut down. Similarly when you close the lid to suspend,
it goes into what appears to be the same state, and the LED will not flash as
is normal with suspend, but is always full on.
I loaded a mainline kernel (14.9-...) and it works fine.
This page gave me the hint I needed:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2004416] Re: [rtl8822be] Bluetooth Headset Loses Audio

2023-02-01 Thread Rob Frohne
The original journal goes back to before when I'm sure the original
problem was occurring. The interesting thing is that this has been
working for a while, and I only noticed the problem fairly recently
(probably the last month). The new problem (not reported yet elsewhere)
is a different headset and different laptop, but I kind of think I
remember it happening on it as well. And this makes me remember that
the journal, etc I sent you were on the wrong laptop! So sorry! Let me
get you the right ones.

Title:
  [rtl8822be] Bluetooth Headset Loses Audio

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I keep finding that some time after connecting and listening to audio
with my Bluetooth headset, the audio fails to play on them. If I turn
them off and back on again, it works. So far, if I am listening, it
doesn't quit, but if I stop and try to listen to audio again after a
while, there is no sound. This error in the logs prompted me to
  submit this bug to pipewire.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2004416] Re: [rtl8822be] Bluetooth Headset Loses Audio

2023-02-01 Thread Rob Frohne
Your comment about RFI on 2.4GHz may be right on. I recently got
hearing aids (Phonak Marvel M70-R) and they use Bluetooth too. They
were on the same ears as my headset. The problems have been happening
about as long as I have had the hearing aids. I'll try and do some
testing next time to see if I can figure out if they are partly or
wholly to blame. It is an intermittent problem.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2017322] [NEW] Stylus does not rotate with screen.

2023-04-21 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

I don't know exactly where the bug is. I tried LXQT and Gnome under
Xorg and Wayland, and it is the same. When you put the screen in
landscape flipped the stylus does not change its orientation. This
happened upon upgrade to Ubuntu 23.04.

Thanks for fixing bugs!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2017322] Re: Stylus does not rotate with screen.

2023-04-24 Thread Rob Frohne
This is not a kernel bug. I tested it with the old kernel that worked
with Ubuntu 22.10, and it still fails with that one, so it is not the
kernel. Any ideas where the bug might be?
