I can confirm that reverting to linux-firmware:amd64=1.173.12 with kernel 5.3.0-40-generic on Xubuntu 18.04.4 solved my problem. Workaround with kernel parameter "radeon.modeset=0 rd.driver.blacklist=radeon" removed error messages but caused fan to work constantly when watching e. g. youtube in chrome. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1570820] Re: Suspend failure
Same effect here as you described (Samsung Ativbook 7 730U3E with Intel/ATI graphic). Xubuntu 15.10 with all the updates worked. After upgrading to 16.04 suspend stopped working. Due to some issues with systemd during the upgrade I did a fresh install of 16.04 Xubuntu but ran into the same suspend problem. I hope you can fix this in the official Kernel as I'd like to stick to the "original" an 16.04 is a LTS version. I guess petersaints gave enough information (thanks for this!) - I just want to push this with my vote :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570820 Title: Suspend failure Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: My laptop fails to suspend. The screen turns off, but the fans continue to run (and it may actually get hotter). I wait and wait, and nothing happens (the power indicator remains always on). I tried suspending using the GUI, pressing the power button, closing the lid, and even through the terminal with the "pm-suspend" command. Nothing worked. Suspend worked fine on Ubuntu 15.10 and older releases, but since I upgraded to 16.04 I'm unable to put it to sleep. In fact, I had an old 4.2 kernel installed from Wily. I booted into it and it suspended and then resumed flawlessly, so it really seems to be a kernel related bug. I'll gladly perform any testing procedures that you may need to try to identify what the problem may be. I really hope that you are able to fix this soon, even if it will probably after the final release. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1380824] Re: Backlight not working on Samsung ATIV 8 laptop
Same effect on my Samsung Ativ Book 7 (intel i7 intel/ati hybrid) neither radeon, nor fglrx is working. Kernels 3.13.0-37, 3.16.0-23/24 don't work. Everything worked unter Xubuntu 14.04 (under 14.04 acpi_backlight=vendor even turned on brightness sensor) Under 14.10 ONLY brightness sensor works and cannot be turned off. Brightnesse keys tell me they are working by notification bubbles but screen stays at 100%. xbacklight does not decrease brightess although it tells me it it running at 50% (screen still 100%) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1380824 Title: Backlight not working on Samsung ATIV 8 laptop Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a 15" Samsung ATIV Book 8 laptop, np870z5e model from 2013. It features an Intel core-i7 cpu, and integrated Intel Hd4000 video card and also an ATI Radeon video card. According to Backlight debugging page[1], my case is "Backlight control does not work, but there are entries in /sys/class/backlight. " What works: Fn-F2, Fn-F3 keys works(Brightness down, brightness up), shows the brightness notification dialog, and also the /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness file changes too. It has no physical effect. It does not have any physical effect (brightness does not change), up until the brightness notification is zero (no bar on it), then the display switches off. raising the brightness switches the display back to the same brightness it was, and still not have any effect to the brightness. Semi works: Powering on the laptop starts with about 60% brightness. If I suspend-resume the laptop, it results 100% brightness. If I unplug the power cord (if it was plugged in when the laptop started), then it results 100% brightness. If I plug the power cord (if it was unplugged when the laptop started), then it results 100% brightness. I can't change the 100% brightness afterwards. What I have tried: a) xorg.conf file: # Fix Backlight issue Section "Device" Identifier "card0" Driver "intel" Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" EndSection No effect. b) Kernel boot parameter in /etc/defaults/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video.use_native_backlight=1" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video.use_native_backlight=0" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0" I tried each one, with a power off - power on cycle, but none of it had any effect. I doublechecked it (after boot), with cat /proc/cmdline. Changing the /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness values, has no physical effect, although the file do change (checked with cat). I'm desperately trying to solve this issue, because the screen is always at full brightness, and burns my eyes out. (300cd/m2 screen is extremely bright). Any help is much appreciated. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16
I just managed to get the 4.4.0-24-generic kernel to a proper suspend and resume for several times. As mentioned in the several bugs reported here, it seems to affect users with Intel/ATI hybrid graphics. I disabled the ATI part by editing /etc/default/grub line to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.modeset=0" and a "sudo update-grub". After this my laptop (Samsung Ativ Book 730U3E) suspends with the official Kernel. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1170885] Re: Samsung Laptop support module doesn't load for Samsung NP900X3C-A06AU
Another Laptop here (Samsung Ativ Book 7 - type: 730U3E-X04DE). It's not on the list of hardware known to brick in UEFI mode. So I installed it in UEFI mode. Samsung-laptop is not loaded here as well so some minimal things are not working properly (keyboard illumination, fan-control, WiFi switch). I'd like to know if it's worth waiting for a reactivation of the kernel module in UEFI mode or if I should switch my installation to BIOS (CSM) mode. Thanks for any information on this! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170885 Title: Samsung Laptop support module doesn't load for Samsung NP900X3C-A06AU Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: Similarly to Bug #1012284 "Samsung Laptop support module refuse to load for Samsung 900X3C" I'm trying to load "samsung_laptop" in to the kernel so that I can access functionality provided under /sys/devices/platform/samsung (like keyboard backlight control).
