[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1307744] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: too few arguments to function ‘cfg80211_ibss_joined’]
I see on 2014-05-13 it says: "This bug was fixed in the package bcmwl - 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu3" Why wasn't the updated package, from 9 months ago, included in 14.04.2's install? That would have fixed the issue easily. For anyone having this problem, rather than do code editing and compiling and everything mentioned above, you can grab the bcmwl-kernel- source package for Utopic (14.10) from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/bcmwl-kernel-source Download the amd64 or i386 version, whichever you need, and install it (note: you will still need dkms installed on your system to install it). I just double-clicked it and let Ubuntu Software Centre do the install. That got my wireless interface on and working as expected. Can we get the updated package put into the Trusty repositories, or have the Utopic one added to the backports? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bcmwl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307744 Title: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: too few arguments to function ‘cfg80211_ibss_joined’] Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: installation of the kernel 3.15-RC1 on trusty... It's possible, but for your system to see it as an update it'd have to be a newer version than the one you've installed. So if the respository is updated with a refresh of the version that shipped with 14.04.2, and it does an update, that refresh should contain the fix (according to the info on 2014-05-13). And if it doesn't see it as an update (because the version that shipped with 14.10 is a higher version number) then you'll be fine. I'd suggest keeping the package in your downloads folder or somewhere in case you have to reinstall, or if something funky happens 14.04.3 comes out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bcmwl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307744 Title: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: too few arguments to function ‘cfg80211_ibss_joined’] Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: installation of the kernel 3.15-RC1 on trusty... hi jsmitch - you'll need to install the package "dkms" for the package listed in #13 to install. Normally it's installed when you attempt to update the proprietary driver module, but if you're on a fresh install and haven't done that, worry not. The dkms package is located on the Ubuntu install media, at /pool/main/d/dkms - on the 14.04.2 media, the filename is "dkms_2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04_all.deb". Install that first, then install the bcmwl package file. Also, related to this bug: I have a second system which was running 14.04.1 and I followed the instruction to "opt in" to the hardware enablement stack on that system, rather than doing a fresh install. Instructions for doing so are outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack I was surprised to find that doing so pulled down the updated bcmwl package automatically and did not require a manual install after the fact. So for those of you who are on a 14.04/14.04.1 install, rather than do a fresh install of 14.04.2, you may want to just run that first command listed to get the new kernel and other packages. It may save you some headache. It looks like someone just didn't think to bundle the updated package with the 14.04.2 install media. Is there a chance the media image can be refreshed to include the updated bcmwl package, so future users won't have this problem? If not, can we mark this for 14.04.3 to ensure the problem is resolved with a new point release? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bcmwl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307744 Title: bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.141+bdcom-0ubuntu2: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: too few arguments to function ‘cfg80211_ibss_joined’] Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: installation of the kernel 3.15-RC1 on trusty... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1318218] Re: SATA problems on MacBook Pro 11, 1?
I was able to recreate this same problem on an ASrock Z87E-ITX with an mSATA SSD and both Ubuntu 12.04.5 and 14.04.1. Same series of errors in dmesg. I did manage to get a full install done - not sure how - but when the system boots it's prone to frequent lockups (also, occasionally, at boot, it claims it can't find /tmp). In fact, I've found that if I boot the system into a live environment and just try mounting the SSD, I can see the same errors in dmesg. I can even get into gparted and create an empty ext4 partition on the drive, and see the errors. Even rebooting and trying to mount the empty partition causes the errors. All of the "help" I"ve seen directs users to try different SATA cables or ports, but I can't put the mSATA SSD anywhere else, except in another system (where it works just fine). I did see one reference to disabling an ASMEDIA controller on a different ASrock motherboard, but the one I have doesn't include such a controller - it's just the Intel ICH. For S&G I installed the Windows 8.1 trial on this system, on the mSATA SSD, and it runs without issue. No stutters, no lockups, no drive errors, no SMART errors, nothing. The really strange thing: now that I've installed Windows on it, I have the system sitting in an Ubuntu live environment, with the windows install mounted., I've even written a few files to it, and I'm not seeing any errors at all. I'm attaching output from lspci, lsusb, lshw-short and dmesg on the system - this dmesg output comes after I mounted the windows partition and wrote a file with some random text in it to the drive (this was enough to cause the errors previously). Unfortunately I didn't think to capture a dmesg prior to installing Windows 8.1 - it didn't occur to me that the problem might go away by doing so. I'm going to try to install Ubuntu on the drive again and see what happens, however, if I can't duplicate the error, I'm going to be kicking myself for not getting a dmesg from before for comparison. ** Attachment added: "dmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1318218/+attachment/4296303/+files/dmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318218 Title: SATA problems on MacBook Pro 11,1? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1318218] Re: SATA problems on MacBook Pro 11, 1?
So, I used gparted to format the drive with a single ext4 partition, rebooted the system, mounted it, and the errors came back. It's not a hardware issue. It's some combination of the OS, chipset, file system in use, and maybe (?) drive type. I can use the same drive on a Gigabyte board that uses the B85 chipset and have zero issues, so it doesn't seem to be the entire lynx point chipset family. The Z87 on this board is the revised C2 stepping. Anecdotal evidence from web searches might indicate some relation to ASrock Z87 boards in particular, but then, user reports of the error go back several years, and earlier reports were oftentimes hardware issues. And obviously, in the case of the initial bug report here, it was a Macbook Pro. I'm attaching dmesg output from the same system, this is from a fresh boot to a live environment and mounting the drive by clicking it in nautilus. The errors were back, just as they were before. After reinstalling the Windows 8 Trial on the system, it's back to working without any errors in a live ubuntu environment. Not really sure what to make of this, aside from it not being a hardware problem. ** Attachment added: "dmesg-errors.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1318218/+attachment/4296899/+files/dmesg-errors.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318218 Title: SATA problems on MacBook Pro 11,1?
