[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1488719] Re: dmesg shows "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!"

2016-03-09 Thread Christian George
I have a Dell XPS 13 9343 running Ubuntu 15.10 with 4.2.0-16-generic .
Every few days my system freezes and I can move the mouse pointer but
can't click on anything. Pressing anything on the keyboard has no
effect.

I am using the laptop display + an external monitor Dell U2913WM
(2560x1080 @60Hz). I see no flicker or anything else on the displays. I
only experience the freeze just as Dr4K4n (stefan-dr4k4n) wrote above.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1639560] [NEW] linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic causes complete system freeze

2016-11-06 Thread Christian George
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When using kernel linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic 4.8.0-26.28 and after
applying latest available updates, the system randomly freezes/hangs and
a forced shutdown is required. It can be easily reproduced by trying to
press the "logout" button. The system would immediately hang.

Reverting to previous kernel, 4.8.0-22.24 fixes the issue.

My hardware is a Dell XPS 13 laptop, model 9343. It has the Intel HD
graphics card, using i915 module.

Description:Ubuntu 16.10
Release:16.10

Thanks!

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Incomplete

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1639560] Re: linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic causes complete system freeze

2016-11-08 Thread Christian George
I have this feeling we will be waiting months before a fix is pushed.
Just like with other bugs which affected i915 in the past.

Title:
  linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic causes complete system freeze

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,

When using kernel linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic 4.8.0-26.28 and after
applying latest available updates, the system randomly freezes/hangs
and a forced shutdown is required. It can be easily reproduced by
trying to press the "logout" button. The system would immediately
  hang.

Reverting to previous kernel, 4.8.0-22.24 fixes the issue.

My hardware is a Dell XPS 13 laptop, model 9343. It has the Intel HD
  graphics card, using i915 module.

  Description: Ubuntu 16.10
  Release: 16.10

  Thanks!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1639560] Re: linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic causes complete system freeze

2016-11-09 Thread Christian George
I have just upgraded to 4.8.0-27-generic via "apt upgrade" and the
system no longer freezes when I click the logout button. This is a good
sign. I will keep using it to see if there are any other freezes.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1503214] [NEW] Can't input password to decrypt disk at boot

2015-10-06 Thread Christian George
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Ever since I upgraded to kernel 3.19.0-30 i can't input the disk
password at boot, in order to have the disk decrypted. The workaround it
to boot with kernel-3.19.0-28 which works. When booting with 3.19.0-30
whatever I type won't showup. CTRL+ALT+DEL would reboot the machine
though.

My machine is a Dell XPS 13" (2015).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1500751] Re: Cryptsetup Keyboard not working on Xubuntu 3.19.0-30

2015-10-14 Thread Christian George
Any news about this at all, or any idea when the fix is going to be
pushed in the repository ? It's very frustrating that we can't input the
password on all our machines, or we have to use workarounds ..

Title:
Cryptsetup Keyboard not working on Xubuntu 3.19.0-30

Status in cryptsetup package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I am running Xubuntu 15.04 and just upgraded to the latest kernel (3.19.0-30).
After upgrading the boot time is longer (what is negligible) but the more
severe error is, that I cannot enter my passphrase when I see the crypt dialog.
I just see the dialog to enter my passphrase, but when I try to enter it,
nothing appears in the textfield. I tried with the builtin laptop keyboard but
also with an external USB keyboard.

I thought about supplying more information, but things like the syslog
are not helping apparently (I was not able to boot until the syslog
would capture information...). If you need anything I can provide, I
  gladly help.

  [Test case]
  1. On an affected system boot into kernel 3.19.0-30

  [Solution]
The "solution" for now is booting the older Kernel 3.19.0-28 (which isn't a
real solution).

PS.: Bugs like the following are either not applicable or the solution is not
working for me:
