[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1839327] [NEW] Kernel 5.0 touchpad tap-to-click disables after a few hours
Public bug reported: Issue: On a Dell XPS 13 9350, with HWE Kernel 5.0, when tap-to-click is enabled in cinnamon, after a few hours of use tap-to-click will cease to work. If I go into cinnamon's touchpad preferences in this state (without changing anything), the tap-to-click option will still appear enabled and will work again for a few hours until this step needs repeating. Steps to reproduce Enable touchpad tap-to-click, and use the computer for a few hours. The workaround in #82 helps with Jetbrains, and oibaf's ppa's mesa with KMS seems to make gnome terminal happy. Removing either lets me test this out. @arighi I'm testing your kernel on an affected dell xps 13 9300, and it looks like there are momentary hangs but no crashing any more with your patches. While the changes may have fixed some things, and I'm glad that it's showing improvement for others, there are still hangs and X crashes there that are fairly easy for me to reproduce. I'm trying to get encryptfs going over a remote filesystem, and xattrs are the only practical place to put crypto headers due to file reading speeds: https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/ And in particular, if you go to read any part of a file, you have to get the whole file: https://developer.amazon.com/public/apis/experience/cloud-drive/content/nodes You can imagine in a directory with many things, or even just a few huge things, an 'ls -al' can make the system start downloading a lot while also appearing to hang. To get ecryptfs working practically on this kind of remote filesystem, we'd have to use xattrs. Do you know what would be involved for a fix?
