*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1250605 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1250605

As you possibly saw Luis Enrique has marked my bug as duplicated with bug
#1250605 .

In any case, I've tried to do the test with the upsream kernel #13, and it
failed. I also got some worrying message during the dpkg of the kernel, but
it installed. And the SD reader did not work. I just wanted you to know and
I could not write it anymore in the bug, so this mail. Now I'm following up
the "new" bug, but apparently there aren't better news for me there (I
cannot compile OK, apparently). But Iìll keep trying.

Thank you SO MUCH for the great work you and your friends are doing!

Alex

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1250605] Re: 10ec:5286 [Clevo W310CZ] Realtek Card Reader not working.

2014-01-12 Thread Alessio Gatti
I don't kow exectly why, but I've been abe to resolve ( see now SD cards
and can read/write them!) on my ASUS X551CA with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and
kernel 3.8.0-34-generic 64bit.

Please remember that for 12.04 the issue was resolved, but for kernels
following 3.2 the fix was not working anymore .Today I made a silly
attempt: I went to Realtek site and downloaded the "most recent" driver,
that is for 5229 card (my lspc lists a 5286 instead). To do that, I:

1) Downloaded the driver from Realtek site (link:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false)

2) attempt to Compile the driver via command make

3) You get a set of errors that you can correct by editing file rtsx.c,
along the line of the first comment in this bug, i.e. removing any
reference to deprecated function "__devinit". Ignore warning messages,
they're OK

4) do a sudo make install

5) issue a command depmod that will do nothing :-)

6) Reboot your PC, and when you insert an SD card it will see it !!!

I followed the instructions for make and install of this web page:
http://pclinuxoshelp.com/index.php/Compiling_drivers_for_Realtek_card_reader

WORKAROUND: Only in 12.04, as this doesn't work for 13.10:
  1. Download:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks/+bug/971876/+attachment/2991730/+files/rts_bpp.tar.bz2
  2. Extract archive, edit rtsx.c:
2.1. Remove __devinit from rtsx_probe in line 893
2.2. Remove __devexit from rtsx_remove in line 1048
  2.3. Extract rtsx_remove from __devexit_p() in line 1074
  3. Compile with "make"
  4. As root, make install
  5. Blacklist rtsx_pci in /etc/modprobe.d/rtsx_blacklist.conf (add "blacklist

  6. 'modprobe rts_bpp'
  7. run mkinitcpio -p linux

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1250605] Re: 10ec:5286 [Clevo W310CZ] Realtek Card Reader not working.

2014-01-12 Thread Alessio Gatti
@exzemat,
I'm not sure I did everything right (I'm not an expert in Linux), but my
attempts to apply the patch of THIS thread were always unsuccessful: I could
not compile / add the module and the SD card reader was dead.

It was only when I applied the same manupulations described in post #1
directly to the driver files provided by Realtek in their site, but FOR
A DIFFERENT CARD that my PC could use the SD card.

In full honesty I think there is a chance that the COMBINATION of the
two actions (failure to install this 3d patch + attempt to install the
driver from Realtek site) may have worked.

@penalvch,
thank you very much for your interest and support in this issue. Unfortunately
I'm far from my PC for a while, but I'll definitively do what you suggest as
soon as I can put my hands on it again. So, be patient with me: this may take
still some days (busy week ahead!).

Newer versions of the Elantech multitouch trackpad are not fully
supported in Linux. These appear in many of the newer Samsung
laptops, for example. elantech.c in the kernel needs to be updated to
support these models (up to v7 perhaps?)

This bug is confirmed to affect a range of samsung laptops running
Ubuntu 12.04 and newer, ArchLinux, Fedora and also affects the current
  (3.9) upstream kernel.

A dkms package was produced in 2011 (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/681904/comments/64) which may fix certain older laptops
affected by this issue, but doesn't fix newer models.

  == Original Report ==

  Hello,

So far I've been having a problem with my Elantech multitouch trackpad in
Linux. Basically all i get is right click, left click, and tap to click, along
with basic movement. The problem seems to be rooted in improper detection of
the trackpad, likely b/c its a new revision or whatnot. Of note is that working
elantech trackpads of the past in forums i scouted through show up as "ETPS/2
Elantech Touchpad". Mine just shows up in xinput as "PS/2 Elantech Touchpad". I
think this might be a simple fix in the end, just improper detection, I hope.
For reference, I've tried kernel 3.5 on Ubuntu 12.10 and kernel 3.8.0-17 on
Ubuntu 13.04 thus far, with all combinations of psmouse.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1166442] Re: Elantech clickpad/touchpad lacks multitouch features.

2014-01-06 Thread Alessio Gatti
Kendatsuba,
you made our day!! I can confirm that the fix worked on the following
configuration. AS per Blaz, touchpad appears now OK in System settings and the
touchpad works as expected.

Ubuntu Version 12.04 (Precise) 64 Bit
Kernel Linux 3.8.0-34-generic
GNOME 3.4.2

Laptop ASUS model X551CA (FreeDOS pre-installed, fully wiped up with
Ubuntu).

Please let me know if any other detail is required.

Alessio

Bug description:
Newer versions of the Elantech multitouch trackpad are not fully
supported in Linux. These appear in many of the newer Samsung
laptops, for example. elantech.c in the kernel needs to be updated to
support these models (up to v7 perhaps?)

This bug is confirmed to affect a range of samsung laptops running
Ubuntu 12.04 and newer, ArchLinux, Fedora and also affects the current
  (3.9) upstream kernel.

A dkms package was produced in 2011 (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/681904/comments/64) which may fix certain older laptops
affected by this issue, but doesn't fix newer models.

  == Original Report ==
