[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1888090] [NEW] Frequent Kernel panic in 5.4.0-40 but not 5.4.0-29 on Gemini Lake cpu and r8169r

2020-07-18 Thread Akom
Public bug reported:

Crashes occur more frequently with heavy network traffic and can happen
every 5 minutes to 24+ hours. Stacktrace usually involves TCP.

Same behavior on two new motherboards (Asrock J4105M and Asrock
J5005-ITX) with different RAM type and brand. All other peripherals
removed and changed PSU (still crashed).

Enabled kdump and got a dozen dumps, will attach some.

Went from 5.4.0-40 to 5.4.0-29 and no crashes at all.

Things I also tried:

* Disabled onboard LAN (r8169) and used a PCIe---(adapter)--->PCI--->Linksys
10/100 NIC (tulip driver).
* Disabled all CPU/Chipset features in the BIOS, all APCI/power savings, sleep
states, turbo, etc.

(Still crashed).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2016418] [NEW] Intel Video Backlight keys do not work out of the box on Dell Precision 7510

2023-04-16 Thread Akom
Public bug reported:

After following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight I
have these results regarding when backlight controls (on laptop AND on
an external keybaord) operate in either GDM (login screen) and/or XFCE
logged in session:

With GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX set to:

* no options: GDM but not in XFCE session
* acpi_backlight=vendor : neither
* video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0 : GDM but not session (system seems slower)
* acpi_osi= : works in both (sometimes doesn't after reboot, possibly if not
plugged in)
* video.use_native_backlight=1 : gdm but not session
* /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf : works in both. Default XFCE
background image looks funny (vertical stripes).

XFCE power manager's backlight brightness level indicator appears and
changes with all of the above (but actual backlight brightness only
changes with some of the settings as mentioned above)

`echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness` seems to
always work.

Title:
  Intel Video Backlight keys do not work out of the box on Dell
  Precision 7510

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight I
  have these results regarding when backlight controls (on laptop AND on
  an external keybaord) operate in either GDM (login screen) and/or XFCE
  logged in session:

  With GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX set to:

  * no options: GDM but not in XFCE session
  * acpi_backlight=vendor : neither
  * video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0 : GDM but not session (system seems
slower)
  * acpi_osi= : works in both (sometimes doesn't after reboot, possibly if not
plugged in)
  * video.use_native_backlight=1 : gdm but not session

  `echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness` seems to
  always work.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2016418/+attachment/5664448/+files/ls%20sys-class-backlight

** Description changed:

  After following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight I
  have these results regarding when backlight controls (on laptop AND on
  an external keybaord) operate in either GDM (login screen) and/or XFCE
  logged in session:

  * video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0 : GDM but not session (system seems
slower)
  * acpi_osi= : works in both (sometimes doesn't after reboot, possibly if not
plugged in)
  * video.use_native_backlight=1 : gdm but not session
  * /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf : works in both. Default XFCE
background image looks funny (vertical stripes).

- XFCE power manager's screen brightness indicator pops and changes with
- all of the above (but brightness only changes with some of the settings
- as mentioned above)
+ XFCE power manager's backlight brightness level indicator appears and
+ changes with all of the above (but actual backlight brightness only
+ changes with some of the settings as mentioned above)

  `echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness` seems to
  always work.

Title:
  Intel Video Backlight keys do not work out of the box on Dell
  Precision 7510

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight I
  have these results regarding when backlight controls (on laptop AND on
  an external keybaord) operate in either GDM (login screen) and/or XFCE
  logged in session:

  With GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX set to:

  * no options: GDM but not in XFCE session
  * acpi_backlight=vendor : neither
  * video.use_bios_initial_backlight=0 : GDM but not session (system seems
slower)
  * acpi_osi= : works in both (sometimes doesn't after reboot, possibly if not
plugged in)
  * video.use_native_backlight=1 : gdm but not session

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04
  Package: linux-image-5.15.0-69-generic 5.15.0-69.76
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-69.76-generic 5.15.87
