[Kernel-packages] [Bug 266927] Re: Static sound on Left Channel with hda-intel STAC 9221 A1
At Ponder Short, we want to be more than simply a place to get information; we want to be a place where people can have meaningful conversations, grow as individuals, and strive for greatness.https://pondershortt.com/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/266927 Title: Static sound on Left Channel with hda-intel STAC 9221 A1 Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.27-2-generic-di I get static from only the left channel even on a clean install of 8.04.1. Now I have upgraded to 8.10 and I have the same issue. I have a dell dimension 9150 with codec stac 9221 A1 that loads hda- intel. I found a workaround to my problem which consists of simply rebooting the machine, then the static is gone. But when I shut down and restart, the static is back. It is a slight pain booting twice every time to get acceptable sound. I've tried different programs, different devices (pulseaudio/oss/alsa), lowering the sliders in the volume control but with no luck. Should I include any other files/info? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen9 GPUs in 6th-8th gen CPUs) on Linux 6.8
The kernel upgrade to 6.8.0-47 made a noticeable improvement to the mouse/pointer problems on my Dell Inspiron, and 6.8.0-48 has now fixed most of them - thank you! BUT I still have one problem left: for years I've had the touchpad disabled, and used a USB mouse, as being easier to control properly. Since the 24.04.1 LTS upgrade (and the 6.8 kernel), the touchpad has become sensitive to taps, so context menus appear frequently as my wrist moves over the touchpad, and sometimes when the pointer is over a link, a wrist movement over the touchpad can open that link. This may want a separate report, of course. If so, please guide as to the appropriate package. But it seems to be bound up with the screen flicker that is the subject of this bug; and having two sources for mouse-keys must be a source of confusion for the system ... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-hwe-6.8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062951 Title: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen9 GPUs in 6th-8th gen CPUs) on Linux 6.8 Status in Linux: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux-hwe-6.8 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux source package in Jammy: Invalid Status in linux-hwe-6.8 source package in Jammy: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Noble: Fix Released Status in linux-hwe-6.8 source package in Noble: Invalid Status in linux source package in Oracular: Fix Released Status in linux-hwe-6.8 source package in Oracular: Invalid Bug description: SRU Justification [Impact] The flickering predominantly occurs when the mouse cursor is in the bottom quarter of the screen and stops when the cursor leaves this area. Extensive testing across various kernel versions revealed that the issue became apparent from kernel version 6.8.0 onward, correlating with the mentioned configuration changes, CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON and CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_SCALABLE_MODE_DEFAULT_ON. The problem persists in the latest drm tip. [Fix] As an immediate workaround, adding 'intel_iommu=igfx_off' to the kernel command line has been found to effectively eliminate the flickering issue. This patch proposes the same behavior as 'intel_iommu=igfx_off' and apply the rule to all Intel SKL GPU IDs. [Test] 1. Boot up to desktop with 6.8.0-x kernels 2. Moving cursor around the desktop 3. There should be no flicker while cursor is moving [Where problems could occur] For virtualized environments using hardware-assisted virtualization for graphics (such as VFIO or mediated pass-through), disabling IOMMU for graphics could either disable these features or reduce their security and efficiency. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2084971] Re: Unable to change power modes from balanced
Sorry for the delay, I've been busy. I hadn't tried doing that but i tried it now and nothing changed again. Putting an underscore instead of a dash also didn't change anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2084971 Title: Unable to change power modes from balanced Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Status in power-profiles-daemon package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Power mode is stuck in balanced mode. Every time i switch to power saving or performance it changes of a single moment (almost one frame on screen) and then it goes back to balanced. I tried changing it with commands (powerprofilesctl set performance), through the menu on the top right corner and through the settings app and it always does the same thing. This started after the upgrade to 24.10. In settings, it also shows that performance mode is disabled because the computer is overheating. This problem has been there since I installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, but performance mode didn't seem to be disabled. The computer is not overheating. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2080693] Re: Not resuming from suspend - Thinkpad E460
For what it's worth, the problem persists with the 6.8.0-48-generic kernel. Also, I've tried building the kernel locally in order to hopefully commit-bisect the issue. Turns out my locally compiled 6.6.19 does not exhibit the problem, while 6.6.19 from the mainline kernel ppa does. I've done the following changes to the config: 1. make localmodconfig (to cut on compilation time and disk usage) 2. scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS && scripts/config --disable SYSTEM_REVOCATION_KEYS (I was getting errors about files not being found) 3. disabled CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF because I was running out of memory at that stage 4. disabled zstd module compression because I was getting errors like `SSL error:1080:BIO routines::no such file: ../crypto/bio/bss_file.c:7` at the stage where the modules are signed. I'm not sure which of these changes is likely to explain why my locally compiled kernel works while the one from the ppa doesn't (as far as waking up from suspend is concerned), but I thought I'd share the info in case it rings a bell to someone. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080693 Title: Not resuming from suspend - Thinkpad E460 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After a routine upgrade which installed the 6.8 kernel, my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad E460) stopped resuming from suspend. I press keys, hit the power button, but nothing works and I have to hard reboot in the end. Everything worked nicely with the 6.5 kernel (6.5.0-45-generic) and previous versions provided by Ubuntu since 5.15.0-40-generic (before that I was hit by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1971437 with similar symptoms). I tried version-bisecting the issue using the mainline kernel ppa, as in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Version_bisecting_upstream_kernels The last good version is 6.6.18. The first bad version is 6.6.19. I'm happy to provide any further information that might be useful.
