We're aware of this issue, it will be fixed with kde 4.1 rc1

[kde-freebsd] [HEADS UP] KDE4 - Call for Testing Part 1

2008-07-17 Thread Martin Wilke
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello everybody!

First the Good News:

The past weeks we focused on the complex and very time
consuming task to get the KDE4 ports into a much better
shape so we can now go on the next step: much wider public
testing.

The experimental KDE ports are currently pulled from KDE
4.1 beta 2 (4.0.83). Some of you may believe beta testing
is not worth it, especially since RC1 was released 2 Days
ago. RC1 is however not yet mature enough for a public testing
phase. Yes, work on RC1 is of course going on. But this really
takes more time. So be patient, please.

At the moment we would actually benefit from wider testing
the well prepared KDE4 beta 2 FreeBSD builds. We would have
much more opportunity and time to identify and eventually correct
FreeBSD specific problems with those.

There is a new wiki page which explains how to download,
install and test, etc. Please read it carefully and make
sure you understand it all. This is not a preview snapshot
for the impatient! This also is not for inexperienced users.
Also, please be aware of the fact that KDE4 is not considered
stable enough for daily use. So please no flame wars etc.!
Be constructive and you are very welcome!

Bad News:
I'm sorry to say that this first CFT on KDE4 doesn't support FreeBSD 6.3.
The next CFT will. The problem behind it is that we really focussed
on bringing support for 7.0 up to a reasonable level. We will concentrate
on 6.3 for the next CFT.

http://wiki.freebsd.org/KDE4/Install

That's all for the moment. Happy Testing!

  - Martin (on behalf of the FreeBSD KDE team)

Re: [kde-freebsd] [HEADS UP] KDE4 - Call for Testing Part 1

2008-07-17 Thread Dwayne MacKinnon
Hello all,

I started rebuilding KDE4 on my box just yesterday. I have some thoughts, but
first, my environment. I'm running 7.0-RELEASE-p2 on an Athlon 5200+
dual-core processor, 2GB ram, and a 320GB SATA-II drive.

I've been building the ports by checking out or upgrading area51 and then
union-fs'ing it on top of my usual ports tree. I have kde3 installed.

1) I find it impossible to use portupgrade (my preferred ports tool) when
doing things this way. I can't rebuild the INDEX file, and so making a proper
INDEX.db file won't work. (There are a number of broken area51 ports that
won't do make index properly.)

2) A list of the ports that KDE4 uses would be very useful. I've read the wiki
page; I'm thinking of downloading the kde4.tar.bz2 file to create such a
list.

3) kdebase-workspace requires qt-phonon, but it's not listed as a dependency.
I'm believe that we're going to make qt-phonon and phonon conflict, yes?

make: don't know how to make /usr/local/lib/qt4/libphonon.so. Stop
*** Error code 2

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4-workspace/work/kdebase-workspace-4.0.83/build.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4-workspace/work/kdebase-workspace-4.0.83/build.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4-workspace.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4.

4) I'm disappointed that kdepim4 and kdepim3 conflict due to dependency
issues. I can't afford to uninstall kdepim3 due to my reliance on kmail.

That's about all for now. I'll have to wait and see when I get home if my
current "basic" kde4 install will work well.

Cheers,
Dwayne MacKinnon

[kde-freebsd] New port: kdeplasma-addons

I noticed that deskutils/kdeplasmoids is now defunct since KDE renamed
it. Attached is the new files for deskutils/kdeplasma-addons, which
replaces it. Builds + installs fine here.

I've just build kdepim4 while I still have kdepim3. I haven't done any trick
at all. (And I'm using kmail from kdepim3 to write this message).

[kde-freebsd] KDE4 compiling experience...

2008-07-17 Thread Aline

I've build kde4 from cvs (area51) cleanly

My system:

Jul 15 19:21:51 BRT 2008

I'm my way I only found two issues:

1. textproc/redland uses db41 as default but links db42. So I had to make with
WITH_BDB_VER=42

2. kdebase4-workspace fails to build because is missing Phonon/MediaObject. So
I had to manually install multimedia/phonon

I've played around with the new kde and it looks pretty cool! The only thing I
found is missing come desktop icons, like trash, home, where I have ? icons
in their place.

Thanks!

Give a try for portmaster, it's a nice tool for updating ports.

kdelibs4 depends on multimedia/phonon, kde 4.1 can't be built with qt4-phonon.

kitchensync from kdepim3 depends on libopensync022, while kitchensync/kdepim4
want libopensync. I'd like this conflict to be resolved.

Yes I had this issue a couple of posts downwards. Looks useful if you

This is strange.

I removed kdebase4, kdebase-workspace, qt-phonon, & phonon. (Oddly enough, my
last install didn't install kdebase-runtime.)

At this point I moved to the kde4 ports tar file mentioned on the wiki page. I
did this because area51 has moved on to 4.0.98.

I reinstalled phonon, and then started building kdebase4. Once again, it
failed on kdebase4-workspace with this error:

make: don't know how to make /usr/local/lib/qt4/libphonon.so. Stop
*** Error code 2

And yes, Martin, to answer from your private e-mail: I have kdelibs-4.0.83
installed.

I'm going to deinstall kdelibs3 and reinstall them. Then I'll try building
kdebase4-workspace again. Maybe that will do it.

I wonder if this is some ccache bug? Maybe I should delete my ccache dir and
try again...

If you used area51 ports before, your system (/usr/local/) might be
contaminated by staled files (area51 ports have sometimes broken plists). It
looks /usr/local/lib/qt4/libphonon.so is one of them. Try to delete it and
start build again.
