Bug ID: 455988
Summary: Export to PSD crashes when there is text in vector
layer
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.1.0-beta1
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows

[krita] [Bug 440494] Text Color is overwritten

2021-08-09 Thread Nikola
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440494

I've noticed that this happens when I have the addon Pigment.IO enabled in the
settings. When disabling the addon(and restarting for the change to take
effect), the text tool handles the color as it should.
Tried few sessions with the addon turned `on` and `off`, and in all `on`
sessions the automatic color change was there.

I've contacted the addon developer and here is his statement:

"I don’t think that is something that is for me to solve at least just yet,
that seems like a PreAlpha issue I never work on Alphas because they are
unstable. on 4.4.5 it is working properly as expected when I do that.

As you can see on your video you set the Orange color for the text but the
color on the canvas was still on Red the whole time. So you had orange for the
vector text but not for the color on the canvas as they did not match.

Pigmento nor Tela own any values, they just check them in Krita and update
themselves to it, and apply if you change them. If Krita does not matches
itself then Pigmento and Tela will cause issues and spiral out of control as
things never match with itself. Each cycle they have ends with an apply to be
double sure everything is in line."

I guess he is saying the issue is not with his addon, or at least because he
does not develop for the nightly builds.

  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows

printscreen with explanation

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. lock transparency of fully transparent layer
2. paint on that layer

OBSERVED RESULT
MyPaint brushes are ignoring locked alpha and paint as if it is unlocked.

EXPECTED RESULT
I expect that locking alpha doesn't allow any changes to transparency of
pixels.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
After quick testing I noticed that alpha locking is ignored when painting with
brushes based on Color smudge and Deform Engine, also. Pixel and Bristle
engines are fine.

No idea why and how.
I haven't updated windows, nor drivers.
I even tried on older nightly versions that had the issue, and that I
downloaded, but didn't delete. Oddly even those appear to work now.
The only difference I can see was that almost all brushes I had were not there
in the Version: 5.0.0-prealpha (git dac7f75). While the previous nightly builds
that had this issue have the brushes. That's the only change I saw when I tried
this latest nightly version.

Multiply and screen blending modes

SUMMARY
Multiply and Screen blending modes in CMYK document are calculated wrong. They
appear to have been swapped.

Additional thoughts
1. It could be that the cause of this error is the inverse color calculation
for the CMYK color space. I have not examined the behavior of other blending
modes.
2. If document is saved in psd format and opened in Photoshop everything looks
fine.

[krita] [Bug 424525] Wrong behavior of blending modes in CMYK

2020-07-21 Thread nikola
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424525

This is so uncommon in print industry. I gave example of Photoshop but multiply
in CMYK works the same way in every software (raster, vector, layout,
imposition) I worked with for 20 years (Agfa, Corel, Qaurk, Adobe,...).
I respect your decision, but I think it is not wise to go against industry
standard. It is not about what is wrong or right, rather, it is what is
expected from professionals preparing their artwork for prepress/press.

CMYK is a subtractive color model, meaning adding /e.g. multiplying/ all colors
together produces rich black/Registration. Multiply should have the same visual
output as overprint.

I wish Krita nothing but best. This thing would be small step to make Krita
more appreciated from people involved in press industry, rather than
dealbreaker.

[krita] [Bug 424525] Wrong behavior of blending modes in CMYK

2020-07-22 Thread nikola
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424525

Dmitry,

thanks for the hint and I tried it. Unfortunately, I didn't seem to be clear.

1. Workaround for standard*1* multiply would be to select screen blending mode
and vice versa. Thus, the whole process is without changing the color space
and/or profile (so no unwanted color transformations) and with the expected
blending. The color readings with picker are 100% correct all the time.

2. When the artwork is done set all the layers that have multiply to screen and
set all screen layers to multiply. Export to psd and import into any layout
software that can read psd and continue working on e.g. illustrated book.

3. Later, if you want to edit the file, layers are preserved. All you need to
do is repeat the swapping with the opposite blending so you can see the correct
output. Swap (multiply/screen) again before saving.

All said for blend modes for layers apply for brushes too.

standard*1* - If we agree that pdf is the most widely used standard in the
print industry, Table 7.1 Standard separable blend modes roughly describes the
behavior of blend modes in CMYK space as well as in space with spot colors.

Error when opening build `5.0.0-prealpha (git 78c37e9)` for the first time

SUMMARY
Continues from [Bug 430181]
downloaded latest nightly build `5.0.0-prealpha (git 78c37e9)` . Brush resize
no longer crashes Krita, but now resize is either lagging or it's not rendering
the resizing.
Lag in default krita bundle brushes. Brushes with `predefined` dabs experience
similar lag/lack of rendering, brushes using `auto` show less lag.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Krita `5.0.0-prealpha (git 78c37e9)`
2. New file
3. resize one of Rad's brushes

OBSERVED RESULT
slow or no visual representation of resize

EXPECTED RESULT
quick resize with visual representation

The issue has been resolved for some time now. I'm having other issues with
latest nightly builds, but I have to take time to post a bug report. At the
moment all brushes work smoothly.
If I had to close the bug report or change it's status, I have to admit that I
lost the bug post link.

In Advanced Color Selector:

1. clear color history button should be hidden when color history palette is
hidden.

2. when color history is aligned horizontally, button remains centered
vertically (visualy disconnected from palette), taking up space unnecessary.

This behavior is present in Krita 5.0.0-prealpha from version when this button
is introduced (current version: 5.0.0-prealpha/git dffcff1)

I don't know if this can be of any help but for me this added line:

d->edit->setContextMenuPolicy(Qt::PreventContextMenu);

in constructor of KisAbstractSliderSpinBox make context-menu disappear. Right
click seem to work as it should. Can the solution be somewhere nearby?

2. When setting background color via "Select a Color" dialog it isn't possible

I like to be able to work without closing this dialog. It is possible to open
both dialogs when opening dialog for foreground and another dialog for
background after that. It even can be useful when working with brushes with
gradient color.

EXPECTED RESULT
I think the behavior should be unified and both of dialogs should be modeless.

I know that my tablet isn't supported but I managed to make it work with
Official version of Krita 4.1.7 (choosing Windows Ink support in drivers and
Windows 8 + Pointer input in Tablet settings).

1. Tested with Windows ink only Canvas and Scatchpad respond to pen. Pressure
OK. Other controls don't respond or respond after pressing pen for a while and
then button activates and opens a context menu.

2. Tested with native drivers Krita becomes responsive as it should but
pressure doesn't work.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I don't know is this of any help: PS and Sketchbook work without problems when
Windows Ink is turned on in drivers, but without pressure when turned off.

Depending of how HSV dialog is opened (from menu or via shortcut) Outline
Selection Tool behave differently.

Good behavior:
1. file new
2. select area with select outline tool
3. invoke hue/saturation/lightness dialog from menu
and click on cancel/OK in it
4. select another area with same tool (it deselects first area and make second
selection on mouse release)

Bug:
1. file new
2. select area with select outline tool
3. invoke hue/saturation/lightness dialog with shortcut ctrl+u (not from menu)
and click on cancel/OK in it (don't close with ESC)
4. select another area with same tool (won't finish selection on mouse release
like in first example. Have to hit Enter to continue)

Additional thought
When selection tool is set to replace previous selection, it would be nice to
immediately hide old selection. Selections can be quite complex and ones which
are to be replaced are distracting while drawing new one. No need for this
unless adding, subtracting or intersecting.

- DENSITY -
Bristle engine in Krita have great potential and I find it really unique.
It is strange that density parameter isn't exposed to be controlled via pen
pressure. It is not exposed to controllable parameters in Popup palette.
Available parameters are (Brush HUD Configuration):

Angle,
Auto Spacing,
Flow (???),
Opacity,
Size,
Spacing.

- FLOW -
Flow doesn't exist in bristle brush settings interface but it is exposed in
Popup palette. It doesn't have any effect on bristle brush behavior either.
Something is confusing here.

...
I think Density should/must be pressure controlled and exposed to Popup
palette.
I wonder if Density can become Flow in bristle engine?

Different behavior on right click

There are 2 different behaviors of controls responding on right click.
Intention is to enter exact number value by typing it in control instead of
choosing it by moving slider.

1. in "Edit brush settings" panel control open popup (undo, redo, cut, copy,
paste, delete, select All)
2. in tool options panel similar control allow numeric entry without opening
popup

Both reactions are printscreened and can be viewed in attachment.

First behavior is not acceptable. To enter numbers it is needed to right click
on control and to close popup by clicking outside. Even functionalities that
offer popup are easier to do in 2. type of control.

WISH: make controls in "Edit brush settings" panel behave like ones in "Tool
Options" or similar controls in menubar for Opacity, Size...

[krita] [Bug 392070] right click in number boxes in edit brush settings opens popup instead of allowing to type numbers.

2018-03-19 Thread nikola
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392070

It is hard to think of usability reasons. Numbers that users want to enter
manualy are small and faster to type than to copy and paste from clipboard via
popup menu (e.g. for rotation: 90, 180, 270; for brush size 128). Novice users
can use slider method.
Proposal
How about adding a setting (checkbox?) in preferences that omit this popup. It
could be "only beta feature" so users can test it and discuss from experience
before final decision is made.
Note
In Blender3D there is similar control that opens popup on right click. Left
click allows direct input instead of using slider. Slider responds on left
click + drag. I prefer Krita slider in Tool Options :)

I found workaround by accident:
right click on arrows (up or down) on right side instead of slider. Popup
doesn't appear.
Tested only on windows version of Krita.

The only (potentially) custom clipboard setting is that I use the clipboard

I even removed all old configuration files when installing the KDE 6.0, so most
of the system settings are the defaults.

Suggested patch

Specific use case bug found in SysRes VG_(do_sys_sigprocmask)

coregrind/m_signals.c

Fix for case when ,,set,, parameter is NULL.
In this case ,,how,, parameter should be ignored because we are only requesting
from kernel to put current signal mask into ,,oldset,,.
But instead we determine the action based on ,,how,, parameter and therefore
make the system call fail when it should pass.
Taken from linux man pages (sigprocmask).

Suggested patch provided in attachment.

screenshot

Since updating to plasma 5.12 effects get disabled on boot and I get the window
like on attached screenshot. Alt+shift+f12 enables effects only untill next
reboot.

Deleting kwinrc and rebooting fixes the problem, but if I disable background
contrast effect and reboot, the problem comes back, and I get disabled
compositing again at boot.

Unchecking "allow applications to block compositing" doesn't help. Bug gets
triggered when background contrast is disabled.

[plasma-pa] [Bug 380845] Plasma Crash while pluggin headphones

2017-06-21 Thread Nikola Schnelle
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=380845

I can easily crash plasma with scrolling over sound/volume systray icon.
Although it does not crash every time.

I have never used valgrind and have no spare time atm to read docs, but if
there is some easy copy/paste valgrind command I would more than happy to run
it :)
