https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450696 Bug ID: 450696 Summary: Copying large amount of files locks up KDE. cp / rsync no issue. So def Dolphin. Product: dolphin Version: 21.12.2 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: dieseltr...@gmail.com CC: kfm-de...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY If I copy large files say around 20G over lan / autofs / ssh etc KDE Plasma tends to lockup for minutes at a time. Over LOCAL mounts. If I do the exact same using konsole and cp / rsync. Plasma is responsive. Music will continue to play but the whole desktop will freeze up, shortcuts won't work, virtual desktops won't work. Screen repaints won't work. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Setup a local mount of sshfs via autofs 2. Copy and paste a large folder say a tv series OBSERVED RESULT KDE Plasma hangs and ignores input. It does NOT crash. EXPECTED RESULT Dolphin's file copy operations should run in their own threads and not hang the DE. On 6+ Icons on toolbar are blurry and text in general is blurry. I resize the toolbar to allow 2 cols I think this confuses the scaling of both the toolbar code and kde. A few are evident in the video though (Start button keeps opening Anydesk, Search cancel in settings, flicker etc). https://youtu.be/v-UDF2NJQ1o Shows the bug in full with X11 5.24.5 vs 5.25.2 of plasma-desktop https://youtu.be/VmQeay-LYiM Shows how with X11 changing Global Scale (GS) also changes font dpi (Wayland does not do this) - Also shows no bug with the menu when clearing "search text" in this case "font". On my wayland video I have to press cancel / back twice. https://youtu.be/dF46BUTrgko Shows the bug in it's entirety as well as showing there's no bug in clicking "start" menu compared to Wayland. https://youtu.be/582Abwqu368 Wayland - shows doesn't scale like 5.24.5 X11 also shows blurry text and that changing GS doesn't change dpi like X11 does (Could be by design just something I noticed). Also shows "start" menu bug that keeps opening an app which doesn't even have an icon. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 456076] Task Manager icons no longer honor panel margins, effectively making them bigger than intended
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456076 --- Comment #13 from dft --- Created attachment 151324 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151324&action=edit 5.24 - nice large icons on 1440p Thought I'd add 3 screenshots. Here's FULLSCREEN screenshots. Look at how small the icons are no matter what I width I chose with 5.25. IMO it does not look better nor more practical. [frameworks-kio] [Bug 412163] Only check for required free space after asking the user whether or not to merge, and if merging, intelligently determine the space needed based on what needs to be merge
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412163 --- Comment #11 from dft --- Please can we just disable checking for freespace. It's now end 2021 and Dolphin is useless for merging. It means I have to use rscync or krusader to do such a simple task... Again I have to copy 420GiB folder from Drive A to B. B ALREADY has 300GiB of the folder. Now Dolphin moans and STOPS me from even copying because only 400GiB is free...This is ridiculous and pathetic design flaw which can be solved in seconds. Just disable checking. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 455618] Panels now ignore Font DPI on X11 with Plasma scaling
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455618 --- Comment #21 from dft --- Please see https://youtu.be/VgLQ0jX4g7Q - Taken with Xorg. 62 Panel width is the minimum I can select before system tray changes to "singular" So yes icons do resize on both 5.24 and 5.25 but I think the MAX size is being capped sooner on 5.25. With regards to your second question "which is the way it's supposed to be. So there is no panel bug there." I think the bug still applies look at the relationship between icon size and panel width. Also for me using Wayland and GS isn't an option at all as it appears KDE is merely resizing a lower res image hence the pixelated text (https://youtu.be/582Abwqu368?t=8) Look at the title bars. So it makes the panel and icons bigger but not in the same ratio 5.24 did. Again, I think setting the "max size" for icons on taskbar has changed and would fix this. I would imagine this is some sort of constant in the code and changed after 5.24. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[frameworks-kio] [Bug 412163] Only check for required free space after asking the user whether or not to merge, and if merging, intelligently determine the space needed based on what needs to be merge
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412163 --- Comment #8 from dft --- I don't think you need to compare, Dolphin just needs a SKIP ALL that DOES NOT look and assume there isn't enough free space. EG You copy 16GB, you cancel at 14GB for what ever reason. Free space (after the 14GB) is 10GB. Now you copy again, technically it should only take up 2GB more and means you DO have enough space, but Dolphin assumes you need to copy the WHOLE 16GB again. A skip all (ignore space) option should be quick to develop. That way it can just skip the files already copied and you will sit with 8GB free. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[frameworks-kio] [Bug 412163] Only check for required free space after asking the user whether or not to merge, and if merging, intelligently determine the space needed based on what needs to be merge
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412163 --- Comment #10 from dft --- I think you are over complicating the solution. It it does not need to know it was cancelled. Say you are copying a folder of movies. You cancel cause you have to go out or what ever and shutdown. Now you come back and want to resume. A simple SKIP ALL instead of a global check for free space would be fine. This would be VERY fast and has been done this way for years, just look at Total Commander. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 464494] New: Zorder of all windows and menus get broken
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464494 Bug ID: 464494 Summary: Zorder of all windows and menus get broken Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.26.5 Platform: Archlinux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: activities Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: dieseltr...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I use (Sierra Charts free download) in Bottles (Does the same with PlayOnLinux fwiw). These open on another activity. When switching between the activities my Windows which show as forground aren't actually receiving focus, instead the app behind it (which you can't see) receives focus. This then affects items like context menus too, whereby right clicking in dolphin will mean it's context menu is BEHIND Dolphin. Sometimes changing the activity and going back temporarily fixes it. Basically the active window is sent to the back but can receive imput. Closing the Wine Apps and changing activities a few times fixes this bug. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Download Sierra Chart or some Windows application that allows multiple windows - OUTSIDE of the APP ie SDI. 2. Open app on another activity 3. Switch between the activities, open Brave, Dolphin etc and the foreground app won't receive input. OBSERVED RESULT ZOrder with overall desktop gets messed up. ie Clicking On Telegram on the taskbar will bring a background app to the foreground, yet typing will actually happen in Telegram even though it's behind another app EXPECTED RESULT Active / Foreground app should be in focus. Zordering appears to get skewed. It appears to have something to do with Activities and Wine apps. I haven't tested on other Wine Apps. It used to work fine around Plasma 5.23ish. It broke around 5.25. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: Bottles 50.1 Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux KDE KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.102.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Tested on Gnome and DEEPIN on the same Linux installation, Zorder works fine while Sierra is open with those DE's. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[frameworks-kio] [Bug 412163] Only check for required free space after asking the user whether or not to merge, and if merging, intelligently determine the space needed based on what needs to be merge
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412163 --- Comment #12 from dft --- I would like to bring this up again and keep it simple with another use case. You have a folder of 500GB and want to copy to a drive that has 480GB free. Destination is ZFS or BTRFS with compression means it should EASILY be able to handle it 500GB data. This is why I think going ahead it's even more important for Dolphin to have an option to check if sufficient space is available or not. Without this option it means Dolphin can not be used at all as a FM with "modern" filesystems. Instead I have to open DC. It should have the option to "copy anyway" even if Dolphin "thinks" there's not enough free space. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[dolphin] [Bug 412163] New: Checking for freespace BEFORE copy instead of during or once MERGE has been clicked.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412163 Bug ID: 412163 Summary: Checking for freespace BEFORE copy instead of during or once MERGE has been clicked. Product: dolphin Version: 19.08.1 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: dieseltr...@gmail.com CC: kfm-de...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Lets say I have 100GB free. I want to RESUME copying a folder onto the drive of 120GB. Lets say it only has 2GB of copying needed as I stopped it around 118GB copied. I will get an error saying "There is not enough space on the disk to write file". This is false as once the folder was merged I would have 98GB free. It falsely assumes I need space for the ENTIRE copy. This means I can't use Dolphin to resume a copy and have to open up another file manager that checks for free space DURING the copy not before. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Format a 32GB partition 2. Try copy 20GB on to it 3. Cancel the copy at around 16GB copied - You should have 16GB free 4. Try resuming the copy - technically it should now only need to copy the missing 16GB. 5. It will fail as it assumes it needs 20GB free... OBSERVED RESULT "There is not enough space on the disk to write file" EXPECTED RESULT Copying should resume just fine when clicking merge. Available space needed should be an information message not a halt type message SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon 5.16 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.0 Qt Version: 5.12.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This is a show stopper for Dolphin -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[dolphin] [Bug 412163] Checking for freespace BEFORE copy instead of during or once MERGE has been clicked.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412163 dft changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|DUPLICATE |--- Status|RESOLVED|REPORTED --- Comment #3 from dft --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2) > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 141564 *** Hi Nate, you have marked this as a dup of bug 141564. That is not correct. but *564 is about checking whether the destination is writeable or not. Bug 412163 is not the same thing. In this case the destination IS WRITEABLE. As mention in the first comment, lets say have partially copied a 30GB folder and stopped at 28GB copied. Now you want to resume the missing files, Dolphin will assume it has to copy the whole 30GB again and therefore fails saying insufficient space. Meanwhile it only has to copy 2GB. Therefore this is not the same bug at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
