[dolphin] [Bug 371771] New: Move "double click" from System Settings to Dolphin settings

Bug ID: 371771
Summary: Move "double click" from System Settings to Dolphin
settings
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

Hi. I new to KDE.
(I came from Cinnamon, XFCE)
I like Plasma, but some things are... confusing...

I do not like "single click" in file manager, and I wanted to change it to
traditional "double click".
I spent half and hour trying to find this option in Dolphin Settings Menu.
Then I went to Google and it told me, that I should go to System Settings ->
Input Devices -> Mouse -> Double click to open files and folders... Oh, God...
It is so unnatural, unlogic... I think if user want to change the way he open
files and folders in FM, he must find it in FM.

But I was even more confused, when I notice that Icons in System Settings was
affected by this feature to.
To open item is SS (like "Desktop Behavior") i need to double click it to, like
a folder icon in FM!

Ok, I understand why "double click" feature placed in SS now... Because it
affects not only items in FM, but other items in the system.
But, please, make two separate modes for "clicking" - one for opening files and
folders in Dolphin (and place it in Dolphin Settings), other - for opening
items in System Settings window (and place it in "Configure" tab that is at top
of SS window)

I wish to open files and folders in FM with double click, but I want to open
items in System Settings with single click.

Hi. Installed recently KDE.
Wanted to change wallpaper. Opened System Settings, searched for it there.
I was very surprised not to find this standard feature there.

But was even more surprised to find it finally on left mouse button click.
Wallpapers situated in Desktop Settings. But, DS itself IS NOT a part of System
Settings menu. It could be reached only by right button mouse click. It is
makes no scene.

Naturally, it should be in Appearance section.
Sure, it is logical to change wallpaper by right mouse click, but not logical
not to find it is System Settings.

Please, add this section to Appearance.

I guess 80% of users don`t care about activities, and want to use only one
wallpaper on only one screen.

There could be a link, or count to existing activities in SS, where you can
place wallpaper for each individually.

You know, as an new user I spent a lot of time to figure it out (this is my 4th
try to start using KDE. Previous 3 I droped because of wallpaper and applets
mess in panel (they lost their position accidentally, and there was no obvious
way (hold both mouse buttons) to pin it to specific position).

You have a beautiful DE, but those small things make it user unfriendly.

Gap between Task Manager and System Tray

Hi. I like place panel to the top, and move Task Manager to the the right half.
So open program icons appear from right to left order.
I like when window buttons in task manager situated close to the system tray
icons.

But, in Plasma 5, there is strange gap between icon in task manager and system
tray (unused free space). It reduces, when new windows are opened. When I have
5 applications opened - it disappears, and panel looks like it should be.

I never faced that kind of bug in Cinnamon, MATE and XFCE. Please, remove that
gap. Let first opened window icon be tight close to the the right side (add
option is Task manager settings for displaying icons from left to right, or
from right to left).

P.S. Left half of panel will be used for global menu in plasma 5.9 :)

App Menu top right corner

Hi. I like to move panel to the top, and have Application Menu button in top
right corner.
I have some problem with that. Layout of menu is not changing. It still
displays like it situated in bottom left corner. Favorites tab displayed at the
left side, and popup menues open also to the left, overlapping items in
favorites tab. So it is very hard to select app from favorites. Close, restart
buttons are at the top of the list.

Obviously, when App Menu is in the right top corner, it should revers:
favorites tab should be displayed at the right side, shut off\restart buttons
must be at the bottom.

Can you make option to change it, or to detect position automatically?

See attachment.

No space for new buttons in TM

Not working.

Increasing spacer length to achieve close sticking of TM to System tray leads
to fixed limited area for Task Manager. So it is not expanding while opening
new windows. It just decreasing size of new buttons to fit that small area (see
attachment).

Let me be clear: I need Task Manager to use all right half of the panel from
center to system tray (right corner). I need first opened window button appear
close to system tray, and new window buttons appear next to it from right to
the center. I need them to bee full size each until they reach center of the
panel. Only after that they should decrease they size. Obviously, Spacer must
be set from Left corner to the center of the panel, not further.

So, this is not solution.

Just try to do same in Cinnamon, and you will see how that easy.

It wold be great if it will be added. Nothing weird. MATE, XFCE and
Cinnamon have that. As I said, I keep right side for global menu, and left
for taskmanager. So it esthetically correct to place buttons from right to
left in this case. (Cinnamon divide pannel to three parts - right, center
and left. You can se it if you select "edit panel", they have different
colors)

verticcal panel overlaps horizontal

Hi. I tried to make Unity-like layout.
I put one panel to the top (horizontal), and second to the left (vertical).
Horizontal holds system tray, task manager and will have Global Menu. Vertical
have icons only task manager widget.

Problem: when i set "maximize size" to vertical panel - it overlaps horizontal
panel (see attachment). When I click on top panel, it overlaps vertical. I
tried to tweak its size manually, but it looks ugly (it doesn`t match anyway).

So, please, make panels not to overlap but stick one to another.

Hi. When I configuring panel size, I would like to see how many pixels it
exactly. I going to find how many pixels window header bar (or menu bar) is and
set EXACTLY same size for my panel. I will put my panel on top, and will use
global menu widget. So my panel should be same size as menu bar in windows (I
think its esthetically correct).

In XFCE you can see how many pixels panel size is. Would love to have this in
Plasma (could be hided in "advance settings")

Annoying black arrow.

Hi. I like to keep my panel clean, remove all excess indicators.
And this arrow in system tray annoys me too much.

I like unity\cinnamon\xfce system tray. They do not have pop-up windows with
extra indicators. It looks clean.
So, I would like to remove that pop-up list and that black arrow.

Yes, I can just remove items from it in System Tray Settings (like KDE connect,
or Device notifier), so when no items left to show in pop-up window - it
disappears. But if only one extra-indicator left - it will be present.

I think it is not correct to keep arrow element and pop-up window for only one
component. I want to have such items like Battery indicator or updates, but not
in pop-up window. I want to see all of them on the panel.

So I wish it will be an option to show all hidden components of system tray on
the panel. All of them, or set quantity of items that will be shown on panel
manually (others will be hidden).

As I said, I would like to set panel size exactly same as window header bar
size. So, when I add global menu extension (since Plasma 5.9) to the panel,
and maximize window, it will look like top panel IS a window header bar
(window decorations will be removed, so panel, actually, will become window
header, just like in Unity shell).

Or, add just an option like "set panel size equal to window header bar
size" instead of showing size in pixels.

How about another version of system tray, where all elements displayed on

Like Application Launcher. We have three options there, named as

It was added to satisfy different users taste (personally I prefer Dash).
Why not to add alternative "classic system tray" with same purpose? :)

[plasmashell] [Bug 372361] Choose color and transparency for each panel individually

2016-11-18 Thread alxgvr
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372361

I thought KDE philosophy is to make maximum tweakable DE. Thats what differ it
from others. Almost all stuff in System Settings could be called "niche". You
can set color for every graphical element (feature that majority of users don`t
realy use), finetune visual effects, windows behavior, set wallpapers for each
desktop individually (that is what realy complicate user experience - not to
find wallpapers in System Settings).

When global menu will be added to Plasma, many users will want to emulate Unity
look by placing one panel to the top, other to left side as Dock for apps. And
those people would want to tweak colors for each, to make them look different
(now it just look horrible, when two panels merging in top left corner, so
whole construction looks like monolith "Г" shaped frame).

I believe wish to tweak panels colors much more natural for user when wish to
tweak color for different text modes, or windows decorations.

I was impressed how clean Plasma panels look as Dock. I thought I will use it
instead of Plank. Seems like I have to use Plank again, so Plasma not differs
much from many other DE`s in that sense... :(

It is great that we have global menu now.
But it would be even better if we also had a window button widget (close,

header bar is dissapears, and window controls and menu are shown on top panel.
It will free more space for content on screen.

It is very convenient to open folders with one click. But it is not convenient
to open files with one click. Select multiple files clicking on first one and
shift+click on last one is a best way to select files, but it is not working

So, I would like to ask developers to give user a choice in Dolphin settings

2017-02-04 Thread alxgvr
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375912

That is sad. Because if GM will not work with such "menu heavy" apps like
Gimp, Libre Office, Inscape, it will make no much sence to have it :( May
be we should ask for Qt versions of Gimp, etc? :)

There's nothing we can do about that. They consider the Global Menu protocol
deprecated and use something else which we don't support. (I would accept
patches but I won't invest any time on this myself, for the forseeable
future,
anyways, sorry)

[plasmashell] [Bug 394808] New: Panel individual colors and translucency

2018-05-28 Thread alxgvr
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=394808

Bug ID: 394808
Summary: Panel individual colors and translucency
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: alx...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Hi. I wish I could change color of each panel individually.

If I use Ubuntu layout (top panel for menu and indicators, and left panel for
apps) - I want them to be different colors. Top panel - dark, left - light
(translucient).

Now - they just merging in one Г shaped panel, because there is no color
separation between them.

[plasmashell] [Bug 394810] New: Screen Edges Current Desktop style suggestion

2018-05-28 Thread alxgvr
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=394810

Bug ID: 394810
Summary: Screen Edges Current Desktop style suggestion
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: alx...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Hi. When I use "Present Window - Current Desktop" feature via Screen Edges - it
shows all windows, but they are painted dark with app names on them. I don`t
like that. I want them to be just minimized version of windows (as in Ubuntu
Unity) without any names or shadows upon them. "Desktop Grid" option is close
to that.

P.S. Sorry, didn`t find appropriate thread for that post.

OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org

Why it is not possible to open folder\file as root via right mouse context menu
in Dolphin?
Seems like every linux filemanager has this feature today.

Please, add it.

P.S. I can not install any other FM via Discover, because it crashes instantly.
