2024-03-03 Thread altosch
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482303

Bug ID: 482303
Summary: Discover won't start after upgrade to Plasma 6
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@tosovsky.eu
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Discover (plasma-discover) won't start after upgrade to Plasma 6.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Just run Discover in any way:
'See updates' menu on taskbar icon or click on icon or run from from console.

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens.

If I run it from the console I get this:

$ plasma-discover
libs QList("/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt6/plugins", "/usr/bin")
org.kde.plasma.libdiscover: OdrsReviewsBackend: Fetch ratings: false
adding empty sources model QStandardItemModel(0x55b68d2d3000)

And that's it. I can see the process /usr/bin/plasma-discover in the list but
app window won't appear.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

$plasma-discover --version -> discover 6.0.0

Description:KDE neon 6.0

QT Version: 6.6.2
Kernel Version: 6.5.0-21-generic (64-bit)
Graphic Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If I run 'pkcon -v refresh' and 'pkcon update',
it says "No packages require updating to newer versions."
and yet there's 'Update available' icon on taskbar.

Addition: how to FIX it: switch to X11 and back

1. log out (ALT+F2 > type logout)
2. at login screen (SDDM?) choose: Desktop Session: Plasma (X11) and login
3. logout > switch back to Plasma (Wayland) > log in again > everything works

I thought it's something related to Wayland so a wanted to continue working in
old X11. Then out of curiosity I tried again and the issue was gone.

Thanks for the reply.
I have attached the requested file.

I can't find the kwin debug console. The command “kwin” does nothing.
If I try to use it, I get: Command 'kwin' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install kwin-x11.
If I try to install it: kwin-x11 is already the newest version
(4:6.4.1-0zneon+24.04+noble+release+build3).

I've also attached the output of the “qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin
supportInformation” command, if that is of any help.

I'll test “killall Xwayland” and let you know.

I have also found that the problem temporarily disappears when I put the laptop
to sleep and wake it up again. Fortunately my laptop wakes up very quickly, so
as a workaround it's bearable because it doesn't terminate any programs.

> When you say mouse, is it a touchpad?
> If you have an external mouse does that work?

Neither works. I have a laptop with a touchpad and a mouse attached. When the
mouse stops working, the touchpad stops working too.
Sometimes it helps if I unplug the mouse and plug it right back in.

The error also sometimes occurs immediately after the laptop wakes up. I wake
it up, the mouse doesn't work: the pointer moves, but I can't click on
anything. I put the notebook to sleep and wake it up again, the mouse works.

By the way, the mouse actually seems to work, it's just that Plasma thinks I'm
clicking somewhere else. For instance, I want to click on the taskbar, a window
closes, etc.

Unfortunately, my laptop is a work computer and I can't play games on it.

The good news is that the problem occurs less frequently. In the beginning it
was several times an hour. Recently, about twice a day.

So far I have not been able to trace what it might be related to.

I'm starting to suspect it's due to the wireless mouse. I have a regular
wireless mouse connected via USB, not bluetooth.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/details/dual-mode-mice/28254823

Out of desperation I replaced it with a regular mouse on a wire (same USB port)
and for several days the problem did not occur.
I put the wireless mouse back on and right after the first reboot for updates
it got stuck again.

Either the mouse is defective, or Plasma has somehow become less tolerant of
some signal delay, or something like that.

I'll test it some more and let you know.

[kwin] [Bug 506546] New: Mouse stops responding to clicks

  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

SUMMARY

The mouse stops responding randomly to clicks.

Suddenly I can't click on anything or just some elements on the screen.
Keyboard controls (e.g. ALT+TAB) continue to work. In some cases, disconnecting
and reconnecting the mouse helps, sometimes the computer has to be restarted
(even repeatedly).

The bug started to occur after updating to Plasma 6.4.1.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I've been unable to identify any obvious cause. It's happening randomly.

OBSERVED RESULT
Plasma cannot be controlled with the mouse.

EXPECTED RESULT
The mouse always works.

To avoid having to reboot, I tried from the console:

kquitapp6 plasmashell && kstart plasmashell

which doesn't work. The mouse is still not working properly.

And then:

kwin_wayland --replace && kstart plasmashell

which works, but some programs get terminated and Firefox crashes every time.

Is there a functional workaround?

wireless mouse. When the mouse connects, it probably sends out some confusing
signals and so the touchpad is also malfunctioning.

The fact that the issue started to occur after the Plasma upgrade was probably
a coincidence.

I replaced the mouse and everything seems to be fine since. Thanks for the
support.

[kwin] [Bug 365824] New: krunner, launcher and applet windows just blink and won't show up

2016-07-18 Thread altosch via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365824

Bug ID: 365824
Summary: krunner, launcher and applet windows just blink and
won't show up
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.6.5
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@tosovsky.eu

When any window is on the desktop I can't use krunner, application launcher,
application menu and applet windows (e.g. Networks, Calendar, ...). All of them
just blink and won't show up. Only Application Dashboard works normally.

If all windows are minimized (nothing on the desktop) everything works again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. click on an icon on system tray or press ALT+F2 to show krunner or ALT+F1 to
show launcher

Actual Results:
a window just shortly blinks and nothing more happens

Expected Results:
a window is shown

Kubuntu: 16.04
KDE Plasma: 5.6.5
KDE Frameworks: 5.23.0
Qt: 5.5.1
Kernel: 4.4.0-28-generic
OS Type: 64-bit

It affects just windows that should be shown over running app in a normal
window. For instance if I have maximized Firefox and click on time on bottom
right to show calendar it won't show. But if I minimize all running apps (empty
desktop) it works and the calendar is shown as expected.

Yes, that was it. I switched to OpenGL 2 and the problem is gone.

The setting is here: System Settings / Display / Compositor / Rendering backend
/ OpenGL2.0
Then I wanted to log out and log in to apply change but Plasma got frozen (just
black screen and mouse cursor) so I had to restart the sddm service from
console.

Thank you for your help.

Correction: krunner still doesn't work. It behaves like I described before.
Just blinks and nothing more.

With xrender krunner shows but looses focus (I have to click inside to type),
draws border around the close button and can't be closed with Esc. On top of it
I switched back to OpenGL 2 which worked before and it stopped working too.

Please add some indication of VPN connection in system tray.
For instance there might be a key symbol similar to that which is on Android
devices.
When VPN is connected user should see it near or on the network icon in the
system tray at the first sight.

Thanks.

Affects me either. Kubuntu 15.10, Plasma 5.5.3.

Here is some information:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/617138/how-can-i-get-the-plasma-5-device-notifier-to-give-me-appropriate-options-for-dv/617235#617235

In short:
  1. copy /usr/share/kde4/apps/solid/actions/ to ~/.local/share/solid/actions/
  2. run kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental
  3. restart Plasma (logout, login)

The solution works but the problem is you have to copy the old actions to the
new ones repeatedly. Plasma should handle this.

I can confirm that on Kubuntu 15.10, Plasma 5.5.3 and Frameworks 5.18.0 (from
ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports). The computer gets totally overloaded because of
many apt-check processes. Plasma stops responding. "killall apt-check" doesn't
help. I haven't figured anything else but restart from console.
