STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Select selection tool. 2. Select a random area. 3. Click on the grey area outside the canvas. OBSERVED RESULT Selection stays. EXPECTED RESULT Selection disappears. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Install: snap installation ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This comes into play, when the canvas is bigger, than the screen size. But it is not selected as the current active color. I think people who create a custom color are only doing this, because they are going to use that color right after creation. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Doubleclick on one of the 22 colors in the bottom. 2. "Select Color" window opens. 3. Set up any color. 4. Click OK OBSERVED RESULT Created color is not the active color.
