Interesting.. I cannot reproduce it on a newly created user.

I'm now trying to find out what setting causes the bug, as it seems to have
more layers to it (e.g. switching the theme to Breeze does reduce the bugginess
a bit on my main account, but switching the theme on the new account does not
introduce the issue).

Hey there!
After further investigation, I don't think this is marked properly. I can
reproduce this issue even with my integrated monitor and while disabling the
Nvidia graphics in the BIOS. It seeems that the bug is present on Intel iGPUs
too.

Quick update: I am unable to replicate it tweaking the settings via GUI, but if
I copy files from .config to a newly created user, the stuttering returns. I'll
continue my investigation and will post more info ASAP.

Also, I've noticed that the stutter is not limited to the panel; when e.g. I
trigger the "logout/shutdown" fullscreen window, the initial fade in seems
laggy too.

After a while, I finally figured it out! It seems that something is wrong with
my "kwinoutputconfig.json" file, which I suppose stores information about
monitor layouts.

I would try to fix it, but I've spent so much time finding the cause of this
issue, that I'll probably take the lazy way, and just delete it (and
reconfigure my monitors again). Of course, if there will be a need to pinpoint
the actual setting in the future, that causes this, I can try my best. For
others, I've included the file in the attachments above.

[plasmashell] [Bug 494513] New: Text inside pie chart is clipped on smaller panels

2024-10-11 Thread Miroslav Jarý

SUMMARY
See attached pictures - on 42px height text inside a pie chart is highlighted
as mentioned in resolution of bug 488863 (although not sure if the effect isn't
overdone). On 44 - 48px text is clipped.

I think that the rounding which is done on smaller sizes is a neat solution and
I would prefer it over the chart overflowing (so try first to fit the whole
text, if not, round the numbers, and if it still does not fit, make text
smaller/overflow it over the pie graph itself).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set panel height to 44 - 48px.
2. Add "Total CPU Usage" widget

OBSERVED RESULT
The text inside the pie chart is clipped at the end (missing decimal
numbers/units).

EXPECTED RESULT
Numbers in the graph will be rounded, or the text will be made smaller to fit
the area.

SUMMARY
I have some themes and applets downloaded to Plasma via the "Get new..." button
in Plasma settings. However, I cannot see them in the Discover's "Installed"
page, and thus it is hard to check if any new updates are available to them. I
can still see them in the "Get new..." window though (properly marked as
installed).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download Arch Linux with Plasma
2. Install any Plasma addons (e.g. Vortex-Global-6 theme) via the System
Settings
3. Open Discover's Installed page

OBSERVED RESULT
"Installed" page is empty.

EXPECTED RESULT
"Installed" page should contain all Plasma & Application addons that I've
installed on my computer.

List of entries for the phrase "cli"

SUMMARY
Application search has sometimes weird order of entries. For example, when I
want to open CLion, and search for "cl" or "clio", it is the first in the list.
However, when I enter "cli", it is for some unknown reason after "Slack" and
"Qbittorrent" entries (I suppose because they both have "client" in it's
description).
I guess there are two issues - in the fuzzy search itself (why is different
order on "cl" and "cli"), and in the priority (app name should always have
priority in search over the description).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install apps as seen in the screenshot (alternatively I can directly provide
their .desktop files)
2. Open KRunner.
3. Search for phrases "cl", "cli", "clio"

OBSERVED RESULT
CLion is on the third place in the list for phrase "cli".

EXPECTED RESULT
CLion should be in the first place for all the phrases as it's the best match
from the entries.

2025-03-26 Thread Miroslav Jarý
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=496469

After a bit of testing, it seems that in this report there are many separate
issues, with similar symptoms - memory leak.

Some people report that replugging the monitors temporarily resolves the issue,
but I cannot confirm this; for me the only way that the issue can be resolved
is to simply reboot.

Also there is a discussion about kernel versions and in the thread there was
mentioned that downgrading to 6.6 LTS fixes the issue, however again I cannot
confirm this (maybe anybody else can?). I've not managed to test out the 6.14
kernel to try out if it resolves.

May I suggest to create some kind of "checklist" from all the information in
this issue to better group people with the same actual problem and symptoms,
and from there we can create separate reports and focus more on the individual
problems and their origin (as well as if the source is kwin, kernel etc.)? Is
there anyone from the dev team/community who would be able to create such
checklist?

I can also confirm that switching to nvidia driver version 550.144.03 memory
leaks seems to be gone.

After a bit of googling I found this on nvidia forums:
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/extreme-growing-memory-usage-in-x11-opengl-or-vulkan-applications-after-suspend-resume/329078

However they talk about X11 and not Wayland specifically, so might not be
related; however I provide the link anyway if anyone wants to do further
research.

SUMMARY
When trying to pause/play media playing in background while the screen is
locked, you sometimes have to press the button twice to work. Trying this via
my bluetooth headphones, confirmed to be the issue with different headphones
and only in Plasma.
When observing the locked screen, it seems that the lock screen has to be in
the "enter password" state to work 100% of the time; otherwise pressing the
buttons in the "time widget" state causes the lock screen to reveal the
password prompt, as you would click the mouse/press enter.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect bluetooth headphones with play/pause button
2. Play audio (e.g. YouTube video in Firefox)
3. Lock the screen
4. Try to press the play/pause button on headphones while the lock screen is in
its idle state.

OBSERVED RESULT
Instead of playing/pausing the audio, the lock screen shows the prompt to enter
the password

EXPECTED RESULT
Played audio pauses/resumes playing.

SUMMARY
When you create a custom global command shortcut, and then edit the command it
executes, even after saving the original command is executed when the shortcut
is pressed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create new "Command or script" shortcut
2. Enter some command (e.g. `qdbus6 org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement
/org/kde/Solid/PowerManagement/Actions/BrightnessControl
org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement.Actions.BrightnessControl.setBrightness 50`)
3. Save changes
4. Assign a keyboard shortcut to this item
5. Confirm it is working properly
6. Edit the shortcut command via the "pencil" icon; change the command item to
something else
7. Save changes
8. Press the keyboard shortcut - the original command from step 2 executes
instead of the one set in step 6

OBSERVED RESULT
When pressing the keys, the original command, which was set during the shortcut
creation executes

EXPECTED RESULT
When pressing the keys, the new, updated command will execute

Hey there,
same issue here. I have i5-13420H iGPU and RTX 4050 Laptop dGPU.
External monitor is connected via HDMI/Thunderbolt, and is operated by dGPU.
Issue occurs with or without sleep/hibernation.

SUMMARY
As mentioned in [this
TWIP](https://pointieststick.com/2024/02/09/this-week-in-kde-inching-closer/),
active screen should be determined by the cursor; but instead the active window
is the one which contains last interacted window.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set-up multi-monitor setup
2. Click window on 1st monitor
3. Move cursor to 2nd monitor
4. Open a new app (via e.g. Application Launcher)

OBSERVED RESULT
App opens on 1st monitor, where the previously interacted window is

EXPECTED RESULT
App opens on 2nd monitor, where the mouse cursor is present
