[systemsettings] [Bug 340982] No way to change just the date format but not its actual translated text
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340982 --- Comment #230 from Borden --- (In reply to brenbarn from comment #218) > It sounds like what you're saying is, "if we fix it in KDE, it will be > broken in non-KDE apps". But if we don't fix it in KDE, then it will be > broken for all apps, including KDE and non-KDE apps. I would rather have it > work the way I want at least some of the time than none of the time. To say > it's "not fair to the user" to have it work some of the time and not all of > the time seems a bit disingenuous. It's also not fair to the user to have > it work none of the time. +1 . We can either have a 60% that'll be good enough most users soon, or a 100% solution never, and it seems that some people are saying "Let's wait for the impossible to not happen." (In reply to Jeremy/starcraft.man from comment #8) > Nobody wants > to see their clocks or currency or decimals in a format other than what they > expect. Some countries even have multiple standards due to regional/language > differences... Canada's got its own Wikipedia page on it! > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_and_time_notation_in_Canada In addition to the fact that POSIX has invented and enforced standards that don't exist in countries, it's even worse for people like me who want to use their own standards. I set my dictionaries to UK because I use the King's English. I use UK date formats because they're cleaner than North American formats, but, unlike Europe, I start my week on a Sunday as the Abrahamic God intended. My functional and reporting currency is CAD $, not GBP. There is no POSIX standard that will ever accommodate me because of how I mix and match formats. Furthermore, over 20% of people living in Canada were not born in Canada, which means that they are probably used to using other formats that aren't "Canadian" (which, I said earlier, isn't even defined). To say nothing of any Canadian born before 1960 who grew up in school learning Imperial weights and measures instead of Metric. Point is, even if KDE somehow managed to 'fix' the POSIX standard, it still wouldn't work for most people! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwalletmanager] [Bug 399232] Add linux pass backend to KDE Wallet service
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399232 Borden changed: What|Removed |Added CC||i...@bordenrhodes.com --- Comment #12 from Borden --- (In reply to Bernd Steinhauser from comment #11) > It would certainly help if KDE's password manager would use a file format > that is better exchangeable with other tools. Right now, if you're using > kwallet, you're more or less stuck with it (and thus with a broken tool) > unless you're willing to do a full manual migration to some other tool. Agreed. The moral of the story is that it's time for the .kwl file format to go peacefully into the night and make way for formats that are widely used. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 464314] New: Seedvault Backup say that KDE Connect does not allow data backup. Why?
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464314 Bug ID: 464314 Summary: Seedvault Backup say that KDE Connect does not allow data backup. Why? Classification: Applications Product: kdeconnect Version: 22.12.1 Platform: Android OS: Android 12.x Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: android-application Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com Reporter: i...@bordenrhodes.com CC: andrew.g.r.hol...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- According to Seedvault Backup, KDE Connect does not allow data backup. Consequently, if I need to reinstall Android and/or KDE Connect, I have to reconfigure everything from scratch. Although I understand that there might be a security issue in backing up the connection key, it's a nuisance having to reconfigure all the settings. Surely KDE connect can allow backing up nonsensitive settings and data? Expected behaviour: Seedvault Backup shows that KDE Connect allows data backup and can backup data. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[korganizer] [Bug 386540] New: iCal import fails with unhelpful error message
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=386540 Bug ID: 386540 Summary: iCal import fails with unhelpful error message Product: korganizer Version: 5.2.3 Platform: Debian testing OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: import/export Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org Reporter: incoming-o...@bordenrhodes.com Target Milestone: --- I know that I'm reporting this bug against an old version of KOrganizer. Unfortunately, it's the version that Debian testing and unstable are using, so, until they update it, there will be bug reports against this release. I can normally download .ics files from the Internet and import them directly into KOrganizer. However, in doing so this evening, the import failed with the error message: "An error occurred. Failed to load ical file, check permissions." I opened the .ical file in a text editor and it looks compliant. My issue is with the error message. What does "check permissions" mean? Check permissions of what? Akonadi? iCal folder? User account? If I knew, I might be able to troubleshoot this error myself. Reproducible: always (with this particular iCal file) Desired behaviour: the error message should tell me what component or system is not co-operating rather than show a 'PC load letter' message. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kaddressbook] [Bug 378422] New: KAddressbook (or Akonadi) keep wiping .vcf files!
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378422 Bug ID: 378422 Summary: KAddressbook (or Akonadi) keep wiping .vcf files! Product: kaddressbook Version: 5.2.3 Platform: Debian testing OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org Reporter: incoming-o...@bordenrhodes.com CC: to...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- I've been having a recurring problem for months. I keep several address books within KAddressBook. Some of these are vCard directories and others are vCard files. The vCard directory address books are fine. However, I notice when I try to show the vCard file address books in KAddressBook that they're empty. I fire up Dolphin and go to the directory where I store the vCard file. Sure enough, the size is 0 bytes. The file's destroyed! Lucky for you guys, I keep regular backups of the files and can dig through my archives to retrieve them. As soon as I restore that file, I can see all of the contacts happily back in place when I open KAddressBook but, sure enough, the next time I go to check it the address book's been wiped again. Troubleshooting suggestions? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[akregator] [Bug 226191] Selecting multiple articles in a feed previews the second-last one selected instead of the last one
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=226191 Borden Rhodes changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- Version|4.10.5 |unspecified Status|NEEDSINFO |UNCONFIRMED --- Comment #4 from Borden Rhodes --- The behaviour works normally on 5.2.3 if I click on the first item and shift+click on the last item. The last item shows in the preview pane. Keyboard functionality seems not applicable since the ability to scroll through feed topics using the keyboard seems to have been removed. I guess the mouse-only interface is a feature not a bug. The drag select only works from the bottom-up because you have to click on pure white space otherwise the title you started on gets selected. So, in my original example, to do a drag-select I'd have to start by selecting the white space after E and drag up. To that extent, the bug is still present. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwalletmanager] [Bug 361002] New: KWalletManager cannot open old .kwl files
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361002 Bug ID: 361002 Summary: KWalletManager cannot open old .kwl files Product: kwalletmanager Version: unspecified Platform: Debian testing OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: va...@kde.org Reporter: incoming-o...@bordenrhodes.com For a while now, I've been using KWalletManager5 (15.08.3) provided by the latest version of Debian testing (Stretch), into which I successfully ported my passwords. I just discovered that Konqueror, however, continues to save passwords to ~/.kde/share/apps/kwallet/kdewallet.kwl as it is still a KF4 program. However, I cannot open this file in KWalletManager5. When I try to, it prompts for a password but gives me a -9 error message saying that the password is probably wrong. This is impossible, as is the .kwl file being corrupted, because Konqueror can easily read and write to kdewallet.kwl. I need the passwords from this file, so either KWalletManager5 needs to be fixed to allow this or I need a workaround to dump the passwords from this file into plain text. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Konqueror and navigate to a page requiring a username and password 2. Konqueror prompts to open kdewallet.kwl. Konqueror can easily read and write to this file and fill in the web page's fields 3. Close Konqueror and attempt any of the following 3a. Import kdewallet.kwl from KWalletManager5 3b. Open kdewallet.kwl directly within Dolphin 3c. Replace existing .kwl files in ~/.local/share/kwalletd/ and try to open them from within KWalletManager Actual Results: KWalletManager prompts for a password to open the .kwl file. The correct password is entered but error -9 pops up saying that the password is incorrect. Expected Results: I can get at my passwords! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwalletmanager] [Bug 361002] KWalletManager cannot open old .kwl files
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361002 --- Comment #1 from Borden Rhodes --- Fixed the problem using comments 6 and 8 on https://barlog.rusu.info/valentin/blog/?p=300 , which I only discovered after at least 6 excruciating hours searching and trying to pick Konqueror apart. To prevent others from suffering as I have, can we please put something in the readme or documentation that clearly states that this is how kwallet works in KF5 and it's the ONLY known way to get passwords that weren't initially migrated? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
