[drkonqi] [Bug 478110] New: Inform the user why backtrace parsing is impossible and what to do about it.

2023-12-05 Thread `{third : ;
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478110

Bug ID: 478110
Summary: Inform the user why backtrace parsing is impossible
and what to do about it.
Classification: Applications
   Product: drkonqi
   Version: 5.27.9
  Platform: openSUSE
   URL: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270002#c15
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: backtraceparsing
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: rvdois+rvu...@rokejulianlockhart.anonaddy.com
  Target Milestone: ---
 Flags: performance-

Created attachment 163903
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=163903&action=edit
Debug symbol silent installation failure.

SUMMARY

When performing a live update, certain files necessary to parse a backtrace
might be removed, making backtrace parsing impossible. Because the reason for
the result is not communicated to the user, this appears erroneous, degrading
confidence in the bug reporting system. Additionally, because certain bugs
solely present themselves during updates, this can be especially frustrating
because that's the sole opportunity to report them.

For instance, as https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=162707
demonstrates, when debug symbols are not installed, this creates a strange
situation whereby a reboot would be necessary to put the correct files in the
correct locations for them to be usable by DrKonqi, yet the package is
displayed to the user as installed.

To my knowledge, updating the system whilst it is booted, by using the CLI or a
pkcon-powered GUI package manager like Discover, is the standard method of
updating. This is as opposed to automatic updates on boot, which
plasma-systemsettings and plasma-discover in a certain harmonious configuration
provide.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Update the system.
1. Notice an automatic crash report notification window from DrKonqi.

OBSERVED RESULT

Unable to parse backtrace due to absent debug symbols.

EXPECTED RESULT

Should explain why and how to create a usable backtrace (reboot?) and warn
against filing issues caused by updates unless certain they are useful (and
better yet, automatically factor this decision into the star system).

The profile I use.

SUMMARY
If the shell defined in the default Konsole profile is hung, invoking Dolphin
causes Dolphin to hang without an actionable error message. It is eventually
killed due to being unresponsive.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
* Install version 7.4.1 (from 2024-03-01) of Snap ID
JSNnoJl3EqkMuWoy5Dgq8PMqZ0uNcpie. If this isn't possible soon, see whether
https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/how-to-install-specific-version-of-snap/39254?u=beedellrokejulianloc
has an answer yet.
* Set the attached profile as the default for Konsole.
* Keep invoking Konsole tabs/windows hoping that the shell eventually hangs.

OBSERVED RESULT
Dolphin hangs without an actionable error message. It is eventually killed due
to being unresponsive.

EXPECTED RESULT
Dolphin should disable the terminal panel until it responds.

Why do you assume that? I'm not one to customize my OS much, and I've certainly
not ever messed with Bluetooth (it being the complex and fragile standard that
it is). Considering I've been using the same system for about a year, and this
is a rolling release OS, I'm not surprised small things will break
occasionally. Are you?

Regardless, your estimation is correct that it works on a new user (and another
one which I've had for a while but haven't used for some time). Any ideas of
what I should check to ascertain what's been changed for my account? I
certainly didn't change anything on the day it broke, but *did* update, so I
can't think of how I might have caused this.

Would this be reopened when it's available? I do agree, but also believe it
should be tracked, because we'll surely update to it when it's available.

Unfortunately, because
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_the_KDE_Crash_Report_tool

reproducible, I don't know how to regenerate the debug information. Can that be
done from merely the aforerecorded data?

SUMMARY
KParts can't be embedded in Kirigami applications. KParts are one of KDE’s
biggest selling points for developers, in my eyes - being able to reutilize GUI
implementations of functionality like any CLI application would, as if the
developer were using in HTML. Few, if any, other frameworks provide
this capability.

EXPECTED RESULT
I should be able to use KParts with Kirigami.

Depiction of the problem.

SUMMARY
I'm unable to invoke the Fedora Thunderbird RPM via Discover's GUI, but can via
the Application Launcher plasmoid.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/test/40_Beta/Spins/x86_64/iso/Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-40-1.13.iso
1. Install

via its GUI. That is, by searching for the package - not downloading that RPM
manually.
2. Attempt to invoke it.

This is consistently reproducible.

OBSERVED RESULT
> Cannot launch thunderbird

Bug ID: 485808
Summary: Word spacing varies depending upon window width.
Classification: Applications
   Product: kmousetool
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

Depiction of the problem.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/test/40_Beta/Spins/x86_64/iso/Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-40-1.13.iso

1. Invoke it.

OBSERVED RESULT
The word spacing, as the attached image depicts, is variable, dependent upon
the width of the window. This makes it intensely difficult to read at times,
for no apparent benefit.

EXPECTED RESULT
The text should render with static word spaces.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 484463] New: balooctl prints output over shell, and doesn't accept control codes from user.

2024-03-25 Thread `{third : ;
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484463

Bug ID: 484463
Summary: balooctl prints output over shell, and doesn't accept
control codes from user.
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-baloo
   Version: 5.115.0
  Platform: openSUSE
   URL: https://discuss.kde.org/t/balooctl-purge-fails-to-stop
-baloo/12945/33?u=rokejulianlockhart
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: balooctl
  Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: 4wy78...@rokejulianlockhart.addy.io
  Target Milestone: ---
 Flags: performance-

SUMMARY
`balooctl` doesn't retain shell context (like `zypper`, `dnf`, or even
`systemsettings`' CLI output does), instead merely printing over the shell
prompt its output until another command is invoked.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install cpe:/o:opensuse:tumbleweed:20240321.
2. Install
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory/standard/x86_64/kf6-baloo-file-6.0.0-1.1.x86_64.rpm.
3. Invoke `balooctl enable` when it is disabled (via `balooctl disable`, for
instance).

OBSERVED RESULT
It ends as expected, and the shell prompt is displayed. However, logs continue
to be outputted to the shell (like the shell itself it has become it stdout, if
that makes sense).

EXPECTED RESULT
It should retain the shell context so that its output isn't interrupted by the
shell prompt, and so that it can be killed or *manually* `bg`'d by the user.

Kate's decisions to output them demonstrate. `bg` and KRunner provide the tools
for pushing into a background process.

[konsole] [Bug 484494] New: Reintroduce the ability to specify clipboard duplication format.

2024-03-25 Thread `{third : ;
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484494

Bug ID: 484494
Summary: Reintroduce the ability to specify clipboard
duplication format.
Classification: Applications
   Product: konsole
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: openSUSE
   URL: https://discuss.kde.org/t/copy-as-html-absent-from-kon
sole/1288?u=rokejulianlockhart
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: copy-paste
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: 4wy78...@rokejulianlockhart.addy.io
  Target Milestone: ---
 Flags: performance-

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Install
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory/standard/x86_64/konsole-24.02.1-1.1.x86_64.rpm
(although the version which removed it was quite some time ago, this is at
least a reference).
1. Attempt to copy text in a specific format: plain text, or HTML.

OBSERVED RESULT

Konsole used to allow the user to choose plain text or HTML.

This is seriously problematic for me, because when the colour of a
command's output is integral to its readability (as is true for `dmesg`,
`journalctl --dmesg`, and `powershell`) I need to be able to copy the output in
its exact likeness. However, to do this, I must first paste it into something
which reports that it accepts HTML directly, like a web e-mail client, then
download that draft and extract the HTML from it. If this feature were
reimplemented, I'd merely need to choose a submenu and then paste it into my
text editor.

EXPECTED RESULT

It does not anymore.

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: 4wy78...@rokejulianlockhart.addy.io

  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167800&action=edit
27 MiB file of 717 kwin_wayland stack traces + 1400+ platform plugin load
errors.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set `kcmshell6 kcm_sddm` to
https://forums.opensuse.org/uploads/default/original/2X/9/90badc3f0db5d3a3f697fcd7770208133305dbb8.png
— "Plasma (Wayland)".
1. Updated to cpe:/o:opensuse:tumbleweed:20240321.
1. Initialized computer via WOL.

OBSERVED RESULT
Automatic login failed: I saw a TTY, which waited some seconds with an
underscore. Afterward, briefly saw dmesg output containing $DISPLAY
initialization failure message. Switching to X in SDDM permitted login.

Investigation showed journalctl filled with `-p` 1-4 errors. For reference, no
priority 1-2 errors were present in journalctl in the immediately previous
boot.

EXPECTED RESULT
I should be able to login via Wayland.

2024-03-26 Thread `{third : ;
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484553

Bug ID: 484553
Summary: Resizing windows sometimes freezes them for a few
seconds.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: 4wy78...@rokejulianlockhart.addy.io
  Target Milestone: ---
Flags: performance-, Wayland+, X11+, Intel-, NVIDIA-

SUMMARY
Resizing windows sometimes freezes them for a few seconds.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Write
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/test/40_Beta/Spins/x86_64/iso/Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-40_Beta-1.10.iso
using `flatpak install
https://dl.flathub.org/repo/appstream/org.fedoraproject.MediaWriter.flatpakref
&& flatpak update app/org.fedoraproject.MediaWriter/x86_64/stable
--commit=08f95f0584ba56e427555192146ebe9f4e558521bff8588d7fa83998ad184b86`.
2. Boot the Live installer.
3. Resize a window for 3+ seconds.

This isn't consistently reproducible, so that's the best I can provide.

OBSERVED RESULT
It shall freeze after a few seconds of being resized, but no inactivity desktop
affect is applied, and it responds again after 3 seconds of being unresponsive.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should continually and immediately respond to resize attempts by the user.
