[kdenlive] [Bug 501621] New: Let kdenlive open video files on startup

2025-03-17 Thread Tomáš Pártl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501621

Bug ID: 501621
Summary: Let kdenlive open video files on startup
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.12.1
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: User Interface & Miscellaneous
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: tomaspa...@centrum.cz
  Target Milestone: ---

It would be really nice if I could open a video file with kdenlive, i.e.,
select a video file in the operating system file browser and say Open with
kdenlive and kdenlive would setup a project with the same properties as the
video file and add the video file to the clip bin.

This would be super convenient for making quick edits to video files, e.g.,
when I want to cut parts of something I shot with my phone. Right now on
Ubuntu, I have to start kdenlive from the system Start menu or from a desktop
icon, then do "Add clip or folder" and find the video file in the file open
dialog. Doing all this with a right click on the video file would be really
smooth.

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.27.6 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27. (LTS), and 6.3 (non-LTS) or newer. Please
upgrade to a supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available
to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often
fixed in the next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.27.6, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

[kwin] [Bug 501622] New: SDR black has faint glow

2025-03-17 Thread FK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501622

Bug ID: 501622
Summary: SDR black has faint glow
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.3.3
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: colour-management
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: fk-kde-b...@ubermail.me
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
On my OLED screen I use as much black as possible (wallpaper, dark mode). With
kwin-6.3.3 I noticed that in SDR mode my "solid color: black" wallpaper appears
to have a faint gray. Switching to HDR mode has proper true black again.
This is with no ICC profile configured and "Prefer efficiency" set. Though
toying with either didn't appear to change anything.

Reminds me of a https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494854 - except likely no
vk_hdr_layer involved.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Own an OLED
2. Display black in SDR mode
3. Turn down external light sources in your room

OBSERVED RESULT
See the whole screen faintly glowing

EXPECTED RESULT
Only the mouse cursor should emit light

2025-03-17 Thread Sergio

Bug ID: 501623
Summary: Since plasma 6.3, cut/copy-and-paste occasionally
creates temporary freezes and inkscape to crash
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-performance
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sergio.calleg...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

Noticed that the plasma 6.3 wayland session might have an issue with cut/copy
and paste.

These operations sometimes cause the application in which they are practiced to
freeze for a few seconds. Seen particularly in inkscape and thunderbird. The
former also often crashes during these operations.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open inkscape or thunderbird
2. Copy and paste or cut and paste stuff around

OBSERVED RESULT

The application occasionally freezes for a few seconds. Inkscape at times does
even crash.

EXPECTED RESULT

Cut/copy and paste should not imply any lag/crash

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Think that the issue is known to the inkscape developers, but that the issue
might not be on the inkscape side, since the freezes are seen elsewhere too.

Where did you create the symlink? In your home folder or down in one of
Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos?

Fedora behaves a bit differently. By default it indexes "those four" folders
and not everything (so not anything you create in your home folder). If you
have created the symlink under $HOME and you search from $HOME, Dolphin will do
its own search...

That *does* follow symlinks (so you should have found hits), it messes up and
does not find matches in filenames if you are searching for content (baaad!)
and it only finds content within text files (hmmm, but you can see why it has
that limit).

SUMMARY
Dolphin cannot read/write it's own preferences when home directory is encrypted
and/or mounted with fuse, not sure which combination is required. Encountered
this bug when using gocryptfs.
None of the other 100 programs installed have this problem.
Other common Qt6 file managers also do not have this problem.

OBSERVED RESULT
When you select any settings, and then open a directory, the settings are lost.
Close the program and reopen, settings are lost. Back to defaults.
Default applications seem to work, but that's not part of dolphin preferences
anyway.

SUMMARY
Whenever I reboot my laptop, the RAM usage widget gets a fixed wider size
instead of keeping my saved widget width.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add system monitor widgets (RAM usage and CPU usage/Network speed), place
them underneath

just displayed in 1 instead of 2 rows
3. Resize the RAM usage widget to match the size of the other widget
4. Reboot

OBSERVED RESULT
The RAM usage widget has become a little wider.

plugins/systembell: Throttle audio bell

When too many bell requests are made simultaneously the resulting audio
playback can affect system performance, to the point where it completely
freezes.

Since playing too many audio bells at the same time is nonsensical anyway
limit ourselves to one every 100ms.

This interval is fairly arbitrary, but seems to work well enough in practice.
It still allows for two very fast keypresses to each trigger a distinctive
bell.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501633] New: When QQC2(-desktop-style) menus are used in Plasma, disabled menu items do not have their labels disabled, only their icons

2025-03-17 Thread cwo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501633

Bug ID: 501633
Summary: When QQC2(-desktop-style) menus are used in Plasma,
disabled menu items do not have their labels disabled,
only their icons
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: cwo@posteo.net
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

There are a couple of cases where Plasma opens QQC2 menus. This includes, for
example, the context menus of notification bodies (either popup or in history),
which use Kirigami.SelectableLabel (in turn a QQC2 TextField) or the context
menu of the notes widget, which intentionally uses QQC2 for desktop-style
context menus in the editable text.

In these menus, items can be disabled as usual if their action is not
appropriate, such as copying text with no text selected. But this is not
displayed properly – the icon takes on the usual gray color and does not have
the hover effect, but the label is displayed in its usual presentation for
active elements. This is a rather confusing user experience.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right-click a notification body, or the notes widget text

OBSERVED RESULT

Context menu does not have disabled context menus correctly grayed out.

EXPECTED RESULT

Context menu is correctly grayed out, including label.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: Fedora Linux 41
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.5-200.fc41.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: Intel® HD Graphics 520

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Happens on master and stock Fedora 41.

I have not been able to isolate a minimal test case that exhibits the issue.

Switching QQC2 menu stuff to PC3 menu stuff in the notes widget fixes the issue
there (but this is harder with Kirigami.SelectableLabel).

I'm really not sure where the issue is (PC3? Breeze theme? QQC2-deskop-style?)
so I'm filing it in plasmashell/general for sorting.

That doesn't work. But I don't like that shortcut anyway, so I set a different
one that also doesn't work. So either way, none of the shortcuts (default or
not) bring up the history menu under the cursor location.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501654] New: A way to change OSD (on-screen display) positioning

2025-03-17 Thread Konstantin Kharlamov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501654

Bug ID: 501654
Summary: A way to change OSD (on-screen display) positioning
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: hi-an...@yandex.ru
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

Split from https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501625

The default positioning of OSD may be very disruptive due to being right in the
center of the screen. OSDs may be invoked e.g. by changing keyboard layout.
Ultimately, doing a lot of multi-language typing results in constant
distractions by this "Layout change" notification at best, or an actual
disruption at worst (the referred bug has a reproducer with Telegram, where the
OSD completely covers the text, making it impossible to see what you're
typing).

As mentioned in #501625, other users have also complained about it with regards
to changing volume while watching a video.

Best default positioning may be a subjective matter that depends on the
workflow. But what's definitely needed is a way to configure the positioning of
OSDs somehow, similarly to how notifications positioning may be configured.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open `systemsettings` and type `OSD` to the search-bar

OBSERVED RESULT

No way to configure it

EXPECTED RESULT

There's some option to change OSD positioning

Thank you, this seems to work.

I'm wondering, wouldn't it make sense to make it the default? Is it a frequent
case to create an event and expect no notification for it?

I have installed all of the available packages with chart and devel in the
name. I think this discussion you are referring to might have been with me. I
will look for it later. At that time I thought I solved the problem when I
installed some devel packages but it only worked on the one system and I guess
I never opened a report to see the text at the top and the button issues. I
only saw that the Reports tab was working.

Also note that the 3 systems that do not show the reports tab have exactly the
same packages installed as the one whith the reports tab working.

This is the output when I compile on the machine that does show the reports tab
but they are not working correctly. This is very similar to the one where the
reports tab is missing. It seems odd that the reports and charts are in the
list of disabled features yet the reports tab is there on one of the systems.

[kmymoney] [Bug 501597] Reports not work in Master

2025-03-17 Thread Thomas Baumgart
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501597

I think the mix of qt5/kf5 and qt6/kf6 is very likely the root cause here.
KMyMoney is KF5 only at this point in time (though some instructions may
already be prepared for KF6 but that is untested and not supported).

> After deleting ~/.local/share/kxmlgui5/kmymoney/kmymoneyui.rc, it was not
> recreated when I ran KMM. I'm not sure if it's no longer part of the master.

That is OK. It will only get recreated in case you change the toolbar. Maybe
also, when you change shortcuts, but I am not so sure about that one.

Hello, I can confirm this.

As it were, Space bar does work to switch accounts. I'm thinking there may be a
missing mapping for Enter/Return key in the widget's code adjacent to the other
key mappings.

I'll take a look at this very soon, thanks for reporting!

Indeed, System Monitor itself should not be capable of freezing the system, but
it most likely causes a GPU crash due to limitations in your GPU driver. You
can try running with `LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1` environment variable set, if
that works, it indicates a problem with your GPU driver.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 501606] New URL/Location Bar background does not indicate edit state (too light/dark)

2025-03-17 Thread Blazer Silving
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501606

It's also worth noting the "sunken" state of the bar in all cases now. The bar
was formerly in the same plane as the header while in normal mode, and would
"sink" into edit mode (looked great).

Simply raising the Location Bar (either at rest or on hover) in this same axis
would communicate the ability to interact without requiring color work. The bug
report that kicked off this entire effort was only requesting this change in
the first place.

[kwin] [Bug 501073] kwin gets locked up playing a youtube video in firefox and "kwin_wayland_drm: The main thread was hanging temporarily!"

I have a similar problem and had "fixed" it by restarting powerdevil, but it
came back after resuming from sleep.

This time I attached a debugger to powerdevil. Its main thread was hanging in
an infinite loop in ddcutil, which is at least partially caused by this bug:
https://github.com/rockowitz/ddcutil/issues/511

I also found these errors in the log from, as I believe, just before when
powerdevil entered the infinite loop.

org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: Error queiscing libdducitl API. 1 active API calls
outstanding.
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: [ 53700] Error queiscing libdducitl API. 1 active
API calls outstanding.
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: org.kde.powerdevil: [DDCutilDisplay]:
ddca_close_display -3032
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: [ 53700] Display redetection starting.
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: library quiesced, ddca_close_display temporarily
unavailable
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: [148754] recheck thread terminating because watch
thread terminated
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: [ 53700] Watch thread terminated.
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: [ 53700] Attempting to unlock display lock owned by
different thread
org_kde_powerdevil[53700]: [ 53700] Unexpected error DDCRC_LOCKED from
unlock_display_by_dpath(Display_Path[/dev/i2c-1])

Maybe some of you also have this in your log?

I also can see at the time of the freeze (triggered by hitting play on a
Youtube video), the browser tries to talk to powerdevil, but gets no answer:

vivaldi-stable[141460]:
[141456:141481:0317/211350.243515:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(576)] Failed to call
method: org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Inhibit.Inhibit: object_path=
/org/freedesktop/PowerManagement/Inhibit: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:
Did not receive a reply (...)

I don't understand why this should delay the pageflip, but it doesn't seem to
be a coincidence either.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501588] On X11, Plasmashell crashed after closing laptop lid right after login

2025-03-17 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501588

|Ahm, I'm not into KDE nor Qt. This info was gathered by a tool. Looking
at the sources @ qt.io
(https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/tree/src/plugins/platforms/xcb/qxcbscreen.h?h=6.8.2),

that's the first frames of the callstack. Bug |499383 seems in a different code
area.
  |1: xcb_screen_t *screen() const { return m_screen; } ||2: xcb_screen_t
*screen() const { return m_virtualDesktop->screen(); } ||3: xcb_window_t root()
const { return screen()->root; } ||4: auto reply =
Q_XCB_REPLY(xcb_translate_coordinates,
xcb_connection(), xcb_window(), xcbScreen()->root(), 0, 0); 5: |
|case XCB_FOCUS_OUT: HANDLE_PLATFORM_WINDOW_EVENT(xcb_focus_out_event_t,
event, handleFocusOutEvent);||. A segmentation fault at (1) is most likely
due to a crab ||QXcbScreen::|/|m_virtualDesktop|/ |pointer. S.b. wants to
handle an event while ||/QXcbScreen/'s ||virtual desktop is gone. M.b. also the
QXcbScreen instance is already
deleted at this time. That could be because desktop configuration was
being changed in that moment because I closed the laptop lid and thus
the laptop screen was deactivated. At some higher level of the
callstack, events need to be stopped before deleting ||the virtual desktop|
