--- Comment #9 from Kai Uwe Broulik ---
Git commit 589c1e7ce5e83bf56b11a68e9d8fc6b8c202123f by Kai Uwe Broulik.
Committed on 04/03/2025 at 07:58.
Pushed by broulik into branch 'release/24.12'.

afc: Explicitly toUpper device ID when inserting

AfcUrl upper-cases the device id but we didn't explicitly
do this when inserting/removing the device, so when a device
has a lower-case ID, it will fail to find it.

Could you please attach the contents of help->system info for bug reports and
help->krita log for bug reports to this report? With the current description
it's not possible to figure out what is going on. A screen recording would also
be useful.

If you use MONOCHROME icons for widgets, why you not use -symbolic prefix for
that? For ALL!

You currently have a mix of symbolic icons and regular ones. It's hard to
develop icon themes and track changes.

network-wired - it's devices icon, not status!!! It's not monochrome or
symbolic icon.

network-wired-available - it's status icon. NOT MONOCHROME AND NOT SYMBOLIC!
network-wired-available-symbolic - it's monochrome symbolic icon.

Papirus used on other DE's too and we need to be compatible with all desktop
environments, not just KDE.

I'm not happy at all with this decision to add symbolic icons to plasma. You've
broken all the icon themes, all the plasma themes... A very bad decision

This is also still happening to me. I disconnect from my usb-c dell monitor
(which is daisy chained via the minotr's DP port to another display), and then
the windows on those external dispalys are stuck there. No right click -> move
helps here.
Also have tried changing resolution or scaling in the Display Configuration to
maybe trigger it to move. but yeah. nothing.
Same with keybaord shortcuts to move windows, those also don't do anything when
i'm focused on the hidden window

[plasmashell] [Bug 501052] New: Plasmashell freezes at sshfs password prompt

2025-03-04 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501052

Bug ID: 501052
Summary: Plasmashell freezes at sshfs password prompt
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-performance
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: grun...@ololo.cc
  Target Milestone: 1.0

When I mount a filesystem using sshfs, plasma totally freezes until actual
connection is made, i.e. until I enter connection password or cancel connection
by ctrl-c.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. try to mount filesystem by sshfs, but do not enter ssh password;
2. observe plasmashell is frozen: you cannot restore applications from system
tray, you cannot switch desktops, nothing;
3. stop connection attempt by ctrl-c;
4. observe plasmashell is working again like nothing happened.

OBSERVED RESULT

Plasmashell is frozen while password is being asked.

EXPECTED RESULT

Plasmashell should not freeze.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 12
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This behavior started in 6.3, before that everything were fine. Only
notification "filesystem is not responding" were shown, if password was not
entered timely.

There's also the Neguard application firewall on the phone and OpenSnitch

stuck. as the necessary firewall rules have been made for both.

Adding the computer by ip says that it could ping it, but that's about all.

For me, it happened to me that the computer went to sleep in 2 very annoying
and frustrating cases:
1. While I've put a huge folder to be copied or moved to another location.
2. While I've put a long running command in Konsole to do something.
I don't remember exactly what it was, maybe an rsync or something else.

For me it was very annoying that these two long running and potentially
dangerous if interrupted actions were not enough to inhibit by default the
sleep.
I had to start over the copy or move of the huge folder as I could not be sure
anymore that the interruptions with the sleep wouldn't have corrupted something
from the transfer.

It would be great if copy or move in Dolphin and still running commands in
Konsole would ihibit the sleep by default.
I too forget to that sleep is one and have to turn it off before long running
commands as I don't expect that the computer goes off by default, when I leave
it alone as it's unnatural to do something that I have not instructed it to do.
I understand the reason with the energy saving and I agree with it for the sake
of the environment, but I think Plasma could be just a bit smarter about this
as idle while copying / moving things or long running commands in the terminal
is normal.
We can't just always stay near the computer until everything finishes.
I think both Dolphin and Konsole should inform Plasma when they are busy doing
something.

Screen lock is not a problem as actions can continue without problems, but
sleep and hibernate is as we can never be sure if the tasks were paused and
resumed correctly without anything being lost.
In my opinion only Qbittorrent and other similar clients can do that as you can
even verify the files afterwards to make sure everything is still there as it
supposed to be. I think there is impossible to have unnoticed missing /
incomplete / corrupted folders or files.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501055] New: plasmashell high idle CPU usage

2025-03-04 Thread Unknown
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501055

Bug ID: 501055
Summary: plasmashell high idle CPU usage
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-performance
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: anhollander...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
plasmashell is using CPU time even when it's not being interacted with. It's
not actually that high (<1%, not even enough to cause the CPU to come out of
idle), but it happens on one system and not on the other.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
It just happens all the time.

OBSERVED RESULT
I observed it initially with htop. Using strace shows that it is calling
ppoll() many times per second, with exactly the same parameters. I know of
lsfd, but I'm not sure exactly how to determine exactly what file descriptors
are being referenced.

EXPECTED RESULT
On my other system, plasmashell stays idle, only occasionally making futex()
syscalls.

A long-running command blocking sleep might not be a good idea - having a
terminal with a less or man or even htop open blocking sleep seems very
surprising to me.

Bug ID: 501059
Summary: HDR makes white on black text hard to read (Local

Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

Video of text dimming effect

SUMMARY
When HDR is enabled my monitor's local dimming kicks in and makes white on
black text hard to read (such as in konsole).

Local Dimming on my monitor has 3 settings: Off, Auto, Low, High. Only Off
looks normal.

The text dimming effect is mainly an issue if the background is #000, even
slightly above true black reduces the dimming effect greatly.

I'm not sure what can be done to solve this issue, but it took me awhile to
realize what was causing it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set konsole background to #000
2. Enable monitor local dimming
3. Enable HDR
4. Text is dim and harder to read. Bringing a white window near it brings up
the level of the text.

OBSERVED RESULT
Text is dim unless there is a bright item in the local dimming zone.

EXPECTED RESULT
Text remains easily readable.

[systemsettings] [Bug 501057] New: New EU regulations coming into force in May requires warnings when disabling power management features

2025-03-04 Thread Neal Gompa

Bug ID: 501057
Summary: New EU regulations coming into force in May requires
warnings when disabling power management features

   Version: master
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
   URL: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/826/oj/eng

  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ngomp...@gmail.com
CC: k...@privat.broulik.de, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Starting in May of this year, a new EU directive is coming into force about
power management that requires computers that offer the ability to disable
power management functions to warn users of the consequence of increased energy
consumption when doing so.

The exact wording in question is under Section 2, Functional requirements:
> (5) The equipment may offer the user the option to deactivate the
> power management function. In such cases the users shall be warned
> about the increased energy consumption of that action.
> That warning shall be included in the instruction manuals and,
> where applicable, be made available on the displays integrated in or
> connected to the equipment, excluding information or status displays.
> That option shall not be part of the installation procedure of the
> equipment and shall require a separate user action on the equipment.

We do not yet have this in our UI and we need this to be implemented fairly
soon because not having it will prevent KDE Plasma from shipping on devices in
Europe once this goes into effect.

So we need some kind of in-place warning to users that turning off default
power management features will result in increased energy consumption.

[konsole] [Bug 501058] New: Modifying the toolbar in Konsole is odd

2025-03-04 Thread Luis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501058

Bug ID: 501058
Summary: Modifying the toolbar in Konsole is odd
Classification: Applications
   Product: konsole
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: stereom...@proton.me
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
One thing I do to multiple KDE apps is move the hamburger menu from the right
to the left, so the contents are over the window. But doing this in Konsole is
broken. Removing the hamburger menu does work, but trying to put it on the left
breaks stuff, and beyond removing the hamburger menu, other changes don't seem
to be saved.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Click on "Configure Toolbars" on Konsole
2. On the session toolbar, move the "Open Menu" entry to the left
3. Click apply

This does get saved. (As in, closing and opening console shows this same
state), but

1. Click on "Configure Toolbars" on Konsole
2. On the session toolbar, move the "Open Menu" entry to the left
3. Go to the main toolbar.
4. From the box in the left, put "Open Menu" to the right.
5. Put "Open Menu" to the top on the box to the right (so that it's the 1st
button).
6. Click "Save".
7. Observe how multiple different buttons and even another main toolbar called
"Main Toolbar " appears.
8. Close Konsole, and reopen it.

OBSERVED RESULT
The toolbar layout wasn't saved, the layout shown is the same as the default
layout but with the hamburger menu on it.

EXPECTED RESULT
Whatever layout is configured is saved.

Assuming the tasks don't involve data leaving the local machine, these are
definitely things we can fix to make the initiating apps inhibit sleep until

unusable without such a thing for certain videos!

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a video that doesn't have the same aspect ratio as the screen.
2. Try to make it have the same aspect ratio as the screen.

OBSERVED RESULT
Some videos, especially old movies, have been recorded in the 4:3 aspect ration
because the TV screens had the same aspect ratio, like for example Gone with
the wind.

Strangely and very annoying some assholes directors like Zack Snyder are trying
to do the same now, even though 99% of the TVs and computer monitors have a
16:9 aspect ratio and some are even wider than that.
His latest Justice League movie from 2021 has been recorded in 4:3 aspect
ratio:
https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/zack-snyder-justice-league-4-3-aspect-ratio/
Because he only cared how it looked like in IMAX cinemas which have an almost
square aspect ratio screen.
He didn't gave a crap about the fact that watching in cinema is normally a one
time event and even worse, many of us may have not been to the cinema when it
was launched, so more than 80-90% of the people will see it the first time on
their home screens from Blu-rays or streaming services and the screens there
are overwhelmingly 16:9.
Both Justice League, Gone with the wind and so many other old movies are
unwatchable because of the black bars.
Even the poll here shows that more than 50% of the people prefer to watch it in
widescreen:
https://www.ign.com/articles/zack-snyder-cut-justice-league-widescreen-fullframe

EXPECTED RESULT
1. To have the ability to fix bad aspect ratios.
2. To have the ability to stretch the video to at least the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Similar to how VLC and other video players can do it.
Otherwise Haruna is unusable for these kind of videos.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

GPU 2: AMD Radeon R5 M465 Series

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As for the Justice League movie, which is a very popular one, I guess I'm not
the only one very annoyed about this crappy format for today's standards:
https://www.reddit.com/r/unpopularopinion/comments/m89wv7/zack_snyders_justice_league_sucks_in_43_aspect/
Or the fact that 99% of the people will see it on a home screen:
https://www.reddit.com/r/imax/comments/lmer7i/comment/gnvd8xr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Anyway, please help us fix the bad decisions that some directs like to take!
I saw that some people even try to fix such videos with Handbrake, but that
takes too much space and power, especially for a laptop, so it's better if it's
done by the player on the fly.
If you need a printscreen of how bad it looks now, please let me know.

The "Total CPU Use" widget also shows a bit wrong information about the CPU
(threads being shown as cores) when it's opened, in case it shares some code
with the Info Center and it's easy to fix there too:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501056
I opened it for another problem, but seeing 8 number and being for the wrong
thing again, reminded me of this one, maybe they are a bit related.
Or at least it could be checked if it still works after making changes for this
one.

Since it just happened again, I asked A.I. for a command to get the system log
of the last 10 minutes, for which it gave "journalctl --since "10 minutes ago"
> last_10_minutes.log". I will attach the file. Maybe you can see why it
happened. If the command is not correct, let me know the correct command to
know what causes the immediate re-sleep.

It was the Display Configuration widget in the System Tray. Disabling it and
setting it back to "Shown when relevant" solved the problem, until logging out
and logging back in. Disabling it entirely solved the problem for good.

Looking on my other system, the Display Configuration widget was already
disabled. Setting it to "Shown when relevant" on there did not cause the issue.

So the Display Configuration widget is still bugged, only on one of my systems.

[kwin] [Bug 500782] Duplicate Input to Unfocused Windows

--- Comment #9 from kdeb...@thewalkingglitch.com ---
I have new information on this. I still don't have a definitive way to
reproduce this, but I've narrowed down the circumstances. It may be related to
an issue with scaling. I keep having issues with Chromium scaling resetting
back to 100% from 150%. This can be fairly reliably triggered by locking the
session and signing back in. The only way to reset the scaling without
restarting Chromium is by going into full screen mode, then exiting it.
Somewhere along the line, this causes it to receive input directed towards
other QT applications* that it should not be receiving.

I'm not sure what exact circumstance causes Chromium to pick up this input that
it shouldn't be receiving, but I only seem to encounter it while a video is
actively playing, and only when I am inputting into another QT app. I.e if I
type into Steam while the video is playing in Chromium, the input doesn't get
sent to Chromium, whereas in Firefox or Discover, or Kwrite, it does.

I'm leaving the session open for now, and not restarting Chromium, in case
anyone here wants me to try something.

*I'm not sure what the proper term is, but any application that uses native
window decorations?

As noted by John, it occupies the same position as "Compress" does for
non-archive files. If you select an archive and a file that is not an archive,
they will be together in the menu.

I believe that keeping archive-related actions together is more important. I
don't believe a case can be made for moving both up (so they stay together), as
the compress action on non-archive files is less common than other file
management actions.

Not having hover activation is the new default setting. This is the result of a
full design decision process (only the second one we've ever had, I think) that
took place in https://invent.kde.org/teams/vdg/issues/-/issues/78 and was
implemented in
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/2658

As such, I would not expect this to change without another such process, and
that would require significant new information rather than an individual user's
preference.

If the driver doesn't work with some displays, then that driver would need to
stop supporting it. We have no knowledge of what the display or the driver do
exactly, all we get is "vrr_capable: 1" from the driver and then we show the
option.

I don't know what's going on here to be frank, but it sounds like it's a
regression in amdgpu or that monitor needs a quirk. Either way it needs to be
dealt with in the kernel, please report this at

I confirm this issue also affects Kontact 5.24.5 (23.08.5) With Frameworks
5.115.0, Qt 5.15.13 as found in Kubuntu 24.04 (LTS).

For us this makes the wayland session impossible to use, as we routinely
manually archive our e-mails to a local imap server with 1000's of
(sub)folders.

This scrolling of the folders list happens in about 50% of the attempts, no
clue how to influence this. The only workaround we found is not use drag/drop
but cut/paste. But ctrl-alt-x, ctrl-shift-v is so inconvenient we prefer to
just fall back to X.

While not as good as checking another OS entirely, we can at least test if it's
KWin's fault or if either monitor or GPU driver are messing things up. If you
start gamescope in embedded mode from a tty, like so:

You're right, it doesn't affect this issue.

The code to delay cursor updates in KWin doesn't depend on any driver features;
unless the driver does something really stupid with cursor updates in general,
this really shouldn't be happening. From bug 487563 I know for sure that the
NVidia driver isn't broken in this way.

Do you have some KWin environment variables set, forcing it to legacy

Git commit 6913ab9e4f34a99cc1e07077a9d85feacc05dc10 by Xaver Hugl.
Committed on 04/03/2025 at 15:54.
Pushed by zamundaaa into branch 'master'.

workspace: watch kdeglobals and update Xwayland scale accordingly

The code assumed that KScreen would send KWin a new output configuration, and
thus
Workspace::applyOutputConfiguration would run when the Xwayland scale setting
is changed.

If you only change that setting and no other output setting though, that
doesn't happen,
so until this setting is moved into the normal configuration mechanism, we have
to update
the Xwayland scale when the config value in kdeglobals changes.

You can change this behavior in the screen edges settings, by checking "Remain
active when windows are fullscreen".

I fully agree that this is a bug though, that option should only disable the
mouse screen edges, it shouldn't affect touch.

Can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with either Plasma

Hi Maik,

sorry if I am not doing the reporting correctly. Bug reporting still is kinda
new for me. To your questions:

1. and 2. please see the uploaded screenshots
3. I uploaded one of the sample pictures

I exclusively use digiKam for organizing my photos/screenshots. So all
captions/descriptions etc. are done via digiKam.

I just checked, if maybe digiKam only shows those Chinese characters while in
the file there is actually the "regular" caption. But IrfanView, for instance,
shows Chinese characters, too.

I plan to look into filing a ticket for the scaling bug once I've determined
whether it's a Chromium or a Plasma bug. I suspect triggering that might be a
prerequisite to triggering this. There might also be a time component to this,
as I haven't encountered it on a super fresh Chromium process yet.

Are there any additional debug settings/flags I can set in plasma/kwin that
might also help in identifying this? I plan to start launching Chromium from a
terminal so I can see any output it might generate.

I confirm this still happens in Neon User Ed with 6.3.2, as well as Neon
Testing. I may have missed this before in Testing.
I can't reproduce it in git-master (verified using the top of a widget as a
gridline, Solus)

I did further testing using Fedora 41 with Plasma 6.3.2 and couldn't reproduce
there either, so this looks to be specific to Neon.
I'll let the Neon maintainers take it from here.

libnotificationmanager: Fix infinite recursion when adding a second applet

Add a QConcatenateTablesProxyModel subclass which always
has 1 column.

This is a workaround to https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-134210
and https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500749
if a model is added to an empty QConcatenateTablesProxyModel
it will report zero columns and non-zero rows, causing a data inconsistence
which causes an infinite recursion in
NotificationFilterProxyModel::filterAcceptsRow
remove when the upstream bug is fixed
