Thank you very much for explaining the problem so well that I could understand
what the code is looking for and not finding.
Knowing the file names I could search for them on my system to see if they are
really not found or they just have different names, so I searched for them with
this command: sudo fdfind 'libvulkan.so' /
That gave me this:
/var/lib/flatpak/runtime/org.kde.Platform/x86_64/6.8/68d286c596aa5122502e092332f3cf9c549c822985f15a4b134e70bbff537b75/files/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libvulkan.so.1.3.290

labplot2: error while loading shared libraries: liborcus-0.18.so.0: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Archlinux with KDE Plasma install Labplot
2. Try launching Labplot
3. -

OBSERVED RESULT

EXPECTED RESULT
Labplot launching

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.4-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 14.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Can be rectified by creating a symbolic link for liborcus-0.18.so.0 to
liborcus-0.20.so.0
after the liborcus workaround libixion-0.18 has the same error which can also
be worked around with a symbolic link to libixion-0.20
Libreoffice which also uses liborcus runs fine.

Thanks for all your work ;)

Works here, clangd-19, so no idea whats happening on your side. The dialog
opening is not directly related to LSP. The dialog should always open if we
have a server running for the active document.

So, probably clangd is not running at all for some reason. Check the Output
pane for any errors

I understand, thanks for the explanation!
Has anyone here tried what I tried with the 'solid-hardware6' command in the
other bug report?, more specifically, this:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=497140#c5
And the next reply after it.
Maybe it helps with debugging and finding the root of the problem.
With KIO I don't know any commands, if it has any that can be typed in the
terminal.

For me on Debian, everything still works as before, but I have not used PCMan
or Krusader, just Dolphin.

Firefox fonts always seemed a bit blurry to me on Plasma, but I don't have
Gnome or Windows to compare.
And I'm not sure pictures from VMs are such a good idea for this problem as VMs
probably cannot read and pass all the screen details to the renderers inside,
besides drivers issues.'
If anyone has good internet and can download a distro with Gnome and boot it,
then take some printscreens, it would be great!
I don't think KDE developers have time for everything, so at least we can do
this part.
I would do it myself, but at this moment I'm only on a limited traffic mobile
connection.

[plasmashell] [Bug 500712] New: Visual artifacts in everything to do with plasma when changing things on screen

2025-02-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500712

Bug ID: 500712
Summary: Visual artifacts in everything to do with plasma when
changing things on screen
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.1
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: samuelboehringe...@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Visual artifacts (randomly coloured squares) appear on plasma things whenever
there is a change of pixels.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Startup PC
2. Observe the intro screen glitching wildly

OBSERVED RESULT
Randomly coloured squares appear in (presumably) plasma administered things
like the intro screen, the task bar, the settings application, the system
monitor application, the fade to black of the sleep mode or the desktop
whenever I am causing a rapid change in overall pixels being displayed by for
example moving the mouse or a window, however the change of pixels can be in a
totally different application.

EXPECTED RESULT
No colourful squares =D

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Nobara 40 (based on Fedora)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2

So far only observed on a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 16AHP9
Also please forgive me, for I am far from understanding any part of linux even
remotely.

The other functions of LSP are working (go to definition/declaration, symbol
list, find reference, ...).

Just "Search and Go to Symbol" does nothing and only the information about LSP
server was started is in the output pane.

Try workaround i mentioned in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494408#c26
it works unless you need to constantly switch brightness.

Sometimes bugs just get missed like this is probably setup sensitive stuff.
ddcutil 2.2.0 fixed issue for my setup but for example it doesn't work with
Gustavo's setup. I just have hunch this issue is monitor related like it
"forgets" monitor when you shut it down and when you turn it on again it
defaults to 100% brightness because it thinks its new monitor or something like
that.

applets/brightness: fix Return press on switch

The "Suspend" switch for Night Light calls toggle() on space/enter/
return press, and handles the onToggled() signal to actually perform the
action. The qqc2 api is exceptionally confusing here, toggle() refers to
changing the checked state of a button, but does not automatically
call toggled() which is called when a user interactively manipulates a
control, and would need to be called explicitly in the handler. The only
reason it worked for Space is that the event wasn't accepted, so the
switch called toggled() internally.

Instead, just use clicked() and avoid the whole messy toggled/toggle()
situation. Along the way, we also explicitly accept the onPressed events
when we handle them, to avoid problems with multiple activation in the
future.

> The crash only occurs in root mode?

For me, the problem occurs only in root mode.

> How do you invoke the "Properties" dialog? Or specifically: Does the crash
> also occur when you use "ALT+Enter" shortcut?

By right-clicking the mouse. I didn’t know there was a shortcut. It looks like
shortcut works fine. It is strange that if after using shortcut to open the
"Properties" dialog, open it by right-click, then this will work but only
before root mode restarting.

> I suspect that this is a duplicate of Bug 495435.

The description is similar, but it seems that problem in the not root mode,
which does not happen to me. Probably related, but I can’t say exactly.

After Plasma with applications was restored, turned out that unfortunately
document "Untilted" was empty, despite I put some text before I did Restart my

Seems content has not been loaded at all, but was saved - in my case in file
"Document 3" (located in "~/.local/share/kate/stash/mySession3.katesession").
BTW. When it was working I saw in Document list, for example name: "Document 0"
instead of "Untilted" like now.

2025-02-25 Thread Timwi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500753

Bug ID: 500753
Summary: Add option to use OS-native File Open dialog
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.12.2
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Project Bin & Import
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: bugs.kde@timwi.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Add an option to allow the user to use the familiar OS-native File Open dialog,
esp. when adding files to the Project Bin.

I’ve marked this as “major” because I think it’s the easiest way to address the
following major issue:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Project Bin, right-click and choose “Add Clip or Folder”.
2. Navigate to a folder that contains thousands of files.

OBSERVED RESULT

Kdenlive completely locks up and is no longer usable.

EXPECTED RESULT

User should be able to select a file the way they’re used to from all other
applications on their OS.

In my case, the OS is Windows. Please let me use the normal Windows File Open
dialog that is common to all applications.

[kwin] [Bug 500757] New: Dragging a Window at Top of Screen causes Hard Freeze

2025-02-25 Thread Brandon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500757

Bug ID: 500757
Summary: Dragging a Window at Top of Screen causes Hard Freeze
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.3.1
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Hotcorners and edges
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: b.w.p...@outlook.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Plasma hard and complete freeze/lock up while dragging a window along the top
edge of the desktop on Wayland. This has happened on both 6.3.0 and now 6.3.1.
It seems to be the maximize detection code (even if disabled) that is
triggering this. With it enabled I can visually see the maximize feedback
trigger when it locks, while with it disabled the mouse and window stutter and
slow way down until you pull the window back down. After 3-6 maximize attempts
(because dragging horizontally across the top edge is difficult without
accidentally pulling the window off the top of the screen) is when it locks.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. With or without "Windows dragged to top edge" set, have a window snapped
(non-tiling) to top of screen.
2. Drag the window left and right not leaving the snapped top but occasionally
your mouse may try to pull the window slightly above the top of the window (as
if triggering a top edge maximize even if that is disabled).
3. After 3-5 seconds of back and forth movement (like you are trying to
position it precisely where you want it and triggering the maximize detection
code several times), the screen freezes.

OBSERVED RESULT
The screen completely locks up. Mouse and keyboard unresponsive so unable to
get any logs or restart kwin. Have to hard power off/on.

EXPECTED RESULT
Not lock up but continue to allow moving the window.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
(available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window)
Linux/KDE Plasma:
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.1

Memory: 54.7 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon 780M

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Happens on a machine that was upgraded from 6.2 to 6.3, and on a machine with a

In my case the icons got rearranged after changing screen scale on plasma 6.3.
Specifically, it seems that each scale has its own (random) arrangement. I'm
guessing that the arrangement is saved for every scale, but it is random at the
beginning. I think the icons should preserve (or at least try to preserve) the
same order across all scaling factors, though, and not get a random
arrangement.

I could reproduce this but the issue is that for some reason notify-send also
sends CloseNotification on dbus.

The following python code works fine in creating permanent notifications:

import dbus

def send_notification(summary, body, timeout):
bus = dbus.SessionBus() # Connect to the session bus
notify_service = bus.get_object("org.freedesktop.Notifications",
"/org/freedesktop/Notifications")
notify_interface = dbus.Interface(notify_service,
"org.freedesktop.Notifications")

app_name = "MyApp"
replaces_id = 0  # 0 means no previous notification to replace
icon = ""  # No icon
actions = []  # No actions
hints = {}  # No hints

notify_interface.Notify(app_name, replaces_id, icon, summary, body,
actions, hints, timeout)
print("Notification sent successfully.")

# Example usage
send_notification("Hello!", "This is a test notification", timeout=0)

Since this looks like an issue in notify-send, this would need to be reported
to libnotify

[neon] [Bug 500759] New: kaccess crashing repeatedly after disabling "Shake cursor to find it"

2025-02-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500759

Bug ID: 500759
Summary: kaccess crashing repeatedly after disabling "Shake
cursor to find it"
Classification: KDE Neon
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde.gas...@simplelogin.com
CC: carlosd@gmail.com, j...@jriddell.org,
neon-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I installed kde neon 2 days ago (relatively fresh install) and disabled the
find cursor feature since it annoyed me.
Since then kaccess keeps crashing and although everything seems to be working
fine, I figured this isn't intended behaviour.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Uncheck "Shake cursor to find it" under Accessibility in System Settings

OBSERVED RESULT
pop-up with the message:
 "kaccess Closed Unexpectedly

Please report this error to help improve this software."
and two options: [Report Bug] or [Restart App].
However it crashes everytime I restart it.
Re-enabling the feature does not fix the issue, but the feature does work as
intended.

EXPECTED RESULT
No crashing.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE neon 6.3
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I couldn't retrieve debug symbols or more information from the stacktrace.
When clicking [Install debug symbols] it simply says: "Failed to install debug
systems", attempting to get more information causes the kernel to terminate
the crash log application because it starts to consume too much ram (I have

Not sure if this is related, but certain videos that used to play flawlessly in
Haruna have become very slow and choppy (extremely low framerate) or will not
detect a video track at all in version 1.3.2. I have every codec available to
my distro (Nobara 41) installed that I am aware of. Changing hardware decoding
settings has no effect. The same videos will play flawlessly in VLC. It sounds
like this is the issue here so I wanted to report it under this bug in case
this is indeed the case to include version 1.3.2.

That would be nice to have!
And indeed better if could also choose if you just want it for the desktop only
or also for the lock screen.
I think that when it will be implemented one day, the image should be copied
somewhere as the original image file might be deleted or moved somewhere.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 500665] Baloo File Extractor uses 25-40% CPU and 3 GB of RAM while indexing an HDD and slows down the whole system

2025-02-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500665

That's a lot of information to sort through...

I'm not going to be able get to the bottom of each of the points. There a
handful of good things, a few questions and some bits of advice though.

You are running with the ntfs3 driver now (not the ntfs-3g) and the system's
working better. That is good.

Your "balooctl status" says you have 4,366,8011 files, could that be true?

You have an index size of 57.33 or 61.38 GB, which is wildly large. Your
"balooctl indexSize" says 2.92 GB actually used. That should not be...

I see on my system, if I start Baloo with a "balooctl enable" (maybe you have
to give the command twice, it might not immediately start), then you are just
running the binary. If you start it with "systemctl start --user kde-baloo",
you are running it "within" the limits on memory; it cannot use more than 512
MB of RAM. You can check with "systemctl status --user kde-baloo" whether Baloo
is running within the systemd limits.

On my system it looks as if, if you do a "balooctl enable" and then try a
"systemctl start --user kde-baloo", you get that "not able to start" failure
that you saw

As a heads up... If you have such a large index you will notice performance
problems if you run "balooctl enable". The systemd limits prevent that although
maybe the 512MB is too small. We might come back to that later.

I think you have to take a step back, swallow, purge the index and start again.

You've got the ntfs3 kernel (rather than FUSE) drivers so you should be faster.
Make sure you are running under the systemd memory limits. These should stop
Baloo taking too much RAM and affecting performance. Keep a look out for
multiple hits for a file, the "baloosearch -i one-of-your-files.txt", that will
be a clear warning that something is wrong. Check whether you really have over
4 million files you want to index, maybe you have 2 million and they are
counted twice (that would be another pointer to something wrong). It's also
probably wrong to run and repeatedly rerun "balooctl status" in order to watch
how the number of indexed files is changing, there's a bug about how this makes
the index size grow (horribly grow). I'll see if I can find it...

I'm wondering about the iNotify limit warning, that's something that used to
cause trouble but has not recently. We can come back to that later as well.

Final snippet of info, if you are getting "balooctl monitor" showing lines with
a plain "OK" and no filename, don't worry. Baloo has looked at the file and it
is excluded on account of its Mime type. Yes, this diagnostic could be
improved...

[frameworks-solid] [Bug 497140] USB detecting Android phone as Portable Media Player and not mounting it

2025-02-25 Thread Rafael Linux User
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=497140

--- Comment #9 from Rafael Linux User ---
Considering that - as is usually the case with KDE - there are things that have
been working for years and suddenly stop working, I am clear that it is not our
mobile phones (in which nothing has changed in that interval of time).
Furthermore, I already have (bad) experiences with KIO, the most recent (and
unresolved) related to the use of ".pac" files (javascript instructions for
access in networks that use proxy). As always, PCMan (among others) does work
perfectly in cases where applications that use KIO stop working, as is the case
with Dolphin and Krusader. It's a shame, because Krusader is very good and I
can't use it every time months go by without the problems with KIO being
resolved.

Sorry to necro an old bug, but I recently got a chance to test this issue in
other Wayland compositors, and I can confirm that GTK's menu bar behaves
correctly in Gnome/Mutter, Niri and Sway (all installed on the same machine). I
have not tested other compositors, but the fact that KWin is the only
compositor which reliably shows the issue makes me think that the issue is
KWin-related.

[systemsettings] [Bug 464868] Create UI to generate and use a custom Libinput acceleration profile

2025-02-25 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464868

--- Comment #16 from Alberto Salvia Novella ---
I have tested this with 6 modern mice, and all of them exhibited problems while
using acceleration.

In all cases it was a better idea to leave the setting off, which means that
the feature is broken. Yet it is the default.

Even worse, if you compensate disabling this feature by increasing mouse speed
beyond 0.25, the cursor will exhibit discontinued animation on small movements.

If you are using a low end mouse you probably won't notice the different. But
the moment your mouse is a bit better, and has good precision, you will see
that everything is utterly broken.

Thanks for pointing me to the right direction. I found a similar issue on their
issue tracker which I'll keep my eyes on.

I also found that the following kernel parameter helps greatly with the VRR
bug: `amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xfff07fff`.

Ah, that explains the visual difference between DisplayPort and HDMI on KDE
Plasma. That monitor only supports 10 bit with DisplayPort, and defaults to 8
bit when connected with HDMI.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I have x11. Most likely I had a delayed mode.
But when you press the "selection area" hotkey, the context menu is
automatically removed and there is no delay after that. The delay only works if
you press printscrn to call up the dialog menu and select the appropriate mode
with the delay mode, but this is inconvenient and you will have to get used to
it.

I do not switch to wayland because I work in Houdini SideFX

Might be an issue in GTK 3 -- this also happens with clicks, and with other gtk
3 apps in native wayland mode (e.g., emacs). Also happens in sway.
