I have probably fixed about 50 or so Face Tags the same way since 2025-2-12 until this malfunction hit me today. the frequency of malfunctions has noticeably dropped since the change on 2025-2-11. Prior to 2-11 I was paying much more attention to tagging circumstances because of the frequency of failures, it was a chore to load the new face and search through the images to identify the mistagged face. We just tell the driver to drive the screen > with the given mode, and it does whatever. I would like to object to that, there IS such logic and i have proof that it's being done like that If you switch ttys and the modeline changes you will see a brief flash on the screen so the display can adjust itself or else (if an in tree driver is used with the kms hook) it will switch instantaneously so i put hyprland in 1080p@144hz mode and kwin in the supposed 60hz-but-actually-48hz mode and when switching them there seems to be no flashing indicating that it is using the 144hz modeline but fakes 60hz and fails because there isn't a denominator of 144 equal to 60 so by making this logic a little smarter you could achieve 60hz on such wacky screens -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 500258] New: [Wayland] Screen does not wake up
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500258 Bug ID: 500258 Summary: [Wayland] Screen does not wake up Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 6.3.0 Platform: Arch Linux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Power management & brightness Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: abaris...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY I have a 4k 144hz screen (LG 27GR95UM-B) hooked up to a NVidia 4080. I run KDE using wayland and Nvidia's 570 drivers. The screen supports VRR and uses DSC (display stream compression) to achieve more than 4k 120hz. DSC is important here as I've experienced a lot of bugs both on Windows & Linux because of it, and I believe it's the culprit here. My problem is that when I turn the display off and back on, be it immediatly or after a long time, the output stays black. The session doesn't crash or anything, it just doesn't render and the screen doesn't see any signal. The only reliable way to get it back is to switch to another graphical desktop (Ctrl Alt F2 on my current install, which is SDDM's Xorg session), wait for the cursor to come up and then Ctrl Alt F1 back to KDE. It then comes back immediatly. Switching to a TTY then does NOT work, only switching to one _before_ I turn the screen off does. Once I run into the bug, only the other graphical session will do the trick. This works as expected when using Gnome, X11 KDE or when I'm on a TTY (DSC might be off on a TTY though). WORKAROUND Turning DCC or VRR off doesn't do anything. However, I noticed that going to a lower resolution or refresh rate fixes the issue, which led me to Display stream compression. Disabling DSC on the monitor fixes the issue (while limiting me to 4k120). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Get a KDE Install, Wayland + Nvidia (open/closed driver does not matter) and a screen using DSC (8k@60 or 4k@144) 2. Turn the screen off, wait until the "unplug" sound 3. Turn the screen back on OBSERVED RESULT The screen is black EXPECTED RESULT The screen should show what I left it on (desktop or lockscreen) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.13.2-arch1 (latest archlinux) KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0 Qt Version: 6.8.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I also reproduce this on Fedora 41: I couldn't test X11 there as they disabled X on the plasma spin. I can't find anything of use in journalctl or dmesg: it's the same logs whether I have DSC on or off. I'd gladly give more logs if someone has something they want me to try/some place to look/some verbose logs to enable. This has been happening for a while now, I'm not even sure when it started but it was there on plasma 6.2 too. Sorry if this is a duplicate. The bug looks like some reports I've seen on forums or here, but it's always a bit different. The closest I could find is https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453557 but I run a single screen setup. I also found threads about Samsung screens, so I tried to disable the brightness management/etc and it didn't change anything. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500231 --- Comment #7 from BOF --- Created attachment 178479 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=178479&action=edit KGeoTag drag and drop error As I often see people not being able to replicate my bugs I tend to retest them on 'vanilla' USB-ISO systems. I downloaded the current ISO of KDE neon from https://neon.kde.org/download (User Edition, neon-user-20250202-0745.iso) and downloaded only KGeoTag (1.7) from flathub and OBS to record the desktop. The bug showed up as described: Drag & Drop failed, open though menu worked. As it was also a download option in Discover I tried repo version (user_noble-noble-main; Version: 1.7.0-0zneon+24.04+noble+release+build11). Here KGeoTag didn't even start. Since I had this problem in the past and wasn't able to fix it, I didn't really care as this problem does no longer exist. I also tried to install KGeoTag from snap through Discover (Version 1.5.0-4-geffa7de). Here the drag & drop feature works as expected. (In reply to Tobias Leupold from comment #6) > Thanks! The image does load without a problem if I drop it here, both using > git master and v1.7.0 … > > You can set -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug to make the console output more verbose. > > I don't think there's some AppImage around. IIRC they create Flatpak and > Snap packages for KGeoTag though … I never had to compile anything on Linux as I learned all my dev work under Windows or worked in LUA. So I have to go down the rabbit hole so see where I would set the debug key. Would be neat if there would be an AppImage on the website. AFAIR this can be done automatically. [kwin] [Bug 499934] Plasma 6.3 broke HDR brightness
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499934 --- Comment #7 from Zamundaaa --- (In reply to Confined from comment #3) > Is it possible for an application to ignore the SDR brightness setting while > displaying HDR content? No. It could technically match the reference luminance without altering the content, but that's very heavily discouraged because it has a ton of negative side effects. > I'd like my HDR media to be shown unaltered but find > 203 nits too bright for desktop use, so needing to adjust the SDR brightness > every time an HDR file is played seems a bit tedious. There's no such thing as "unaltered", unless you're in the viewing environment the content was mastered in. I'll elaborate more below. (In reply to Geoffrey Chancel from comment #4) > I have a legitimate question because I am quite ignorant on the subject, but > why is the "original" brightness of HDR content is at 203 nits SDR > brightness? Why specifically this value? 203cd/m² is defined by BT.2408 as the reference white for content using the PQ or HLG transfer functions. In other words, in a HDR10 video, "SDR" things like subtitles are 203cd/m² bright, and the entire video's brightness is relative to 203cd/m². Windows games completely ignore these standards, but you can configure their brightness levels to work fine with this. (In reply to paul-serres from comment #5) > Isn't the point of the SDR brightness setting so that you can make SDR > content looks normal when HDR is enabled? Why link them like this? wouldn't > it have made more sense to add a separate HDR brightness slider instead of > doing this? What would that "HDR" slider apply to? Something that goes 10% above SDR brightness levels? 20%? 50%? Something only with specific transfer functions? If so, which ones? If you re-encode an SDR image with BT.2100 (as you might do with screenshots for example, to handle HDR content on the screen) and you'd have a separate brightness slider for BT.2100 content specifically, then that screenshot would look radically different from the image you just viewed on your screen. Qt applications will soon start using scRGB for rendering with HDR content in their windows, doing such a separate brightness slider would completely wreck the brightness of "SDR" things in their windows too. So no, a separate "HDR" brightness slider is out of the question. The point of the "Maximum SDR Brightness" slider is merely to set what 100% means for the normal brightness slider, because HDR screens are terrible and their self-reported values can't be trusted. It'll be moved into a calibration page sooner than later. (In reply to TheFeelTrain from comment #6) > I want my HDR content to follow the EOTF as closely as possible. Unless you're matching the viewing environment to the one the content was mastered in, that's just plain nonsense. If your room is brighter than the one the content was mastered in, then you need to view the content with increased brightness, or it will look darker than it's supposed to. If your room is darker than the one the content was mastered in, then the content needs to be presented with decreased brightness, or it'll look brighter than it's supposed to. (In reply to TheFeelTrain from comment #6) > At the very least rename the current slider to something else. The setting > shouldn't have "SDR" in the name if it's a slider for HDR. Suggestions would be welcome. It's called the "Maximum SDR Brightness" to have some attachment of what it controls. Calling it "Maximum Reference Luminance" would be more technically correct, but most people seeing it wouldn't understand what it means. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

If krdpserver is set to come up after graphical-session.target this creates an issue that plasma-workspace can't be marked as up until this is up, and we can't start graphical-session yet. Anything wanted by plasma-workspaec needs to have dependencies set explicitly. [kio-extras] [Bug 496809] Dolphin does not show discovered Windows smb device announced by WSD
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=496809 --- Comment #2 from Mario --- SUMMARY Dolphin does not show shared resources from another computers on multiple LAN and virtual LAN anouncing via WSDD. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Open dolphin Go to network Go to shared folders (SMB) Wait for a minut and see what hosts has been discovered OBSERVED RESULT Devices are only discovered on a single LAN, which is typically the one associated with the default gateway. EXPECTED RESULT All devices on all LANs to which the device is connected must be discovered. Since the WSDD daemon shows evidence of the discovery on all interfaces. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0 Qt Version: 6.8.2 Kernel Version: 6.12.13-1-lts (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 KDE FRAMEWORKS: 6.11 DOLPHIN VERSION: 24.12.2 LIBSMBCLIENT VERSION: 4.21.3 SAMBA VERSION: 4.21.3 HARDWARE Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics Memory: 38.6 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon Graphics Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Product Name: ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506QM_FA506QM System Version: 1.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This happens with all neighboring devices, it can be Windows in its different versions or different Linux distributions. The expected behavior is obtained in other desktop environments that use GVFS for this task. >From what I see, I am being asked for SMB logs, however, there is no problem with SMB, SMB works correctly if I enter the specific path I want to enter, the problem is with the discovery via WSDD in which in dolphin it is displayed as wsdd.discovery or something similar. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
