[systemsettings] [Bug 500046] New: Touchpad fails to select multiple files if the user stop pressing it while on top of a file

2025-02-14 Thread Fernando M. Muniz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500046

Bug ID: 500046
Summary: Touchpad fails to select multiple files if the user
stop pressing it while on top of a file
Classification: Applications
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 6.3.0
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_touchpad
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: fernandommu...@gmail.com
CC: duha.b...@gmail.com, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 178345
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=178345&action=edit
Issue only happens when the cursor is over a file when the user stops pressing
the touchpad.

1. Continuously press the touchpad, then hover the cursor over Desktop files.
2. Stop pressing while having the cursor over a file.

Result:
80% of the time only the file that the cursor is over gets selected.
This issue doesn't happen when the user stops pressing when the cursor is not
over a file.

One thing I was still wondering: how does a custom these prevent an OS' power

seems those two should live sufficiently far away from each other.

I can confirm, this happens on my machine as well.

Cause: infinite loop in src/window.cpp in Window::nextInteractiveMoveGeometry

I couldn't track down the exact nature of it, but the infinite "for(;;)" loop
doesn't terminate.

It seems keeping these packages prevented updating kwin_wayland related stuff,
because klassy and lightly add window decorations and therefore depend on it.
This caused a crash in a system that manages both power management and display
brightness on laptops, specifically because it was expecting a function in a
wayland protocol that should have been updated but wasn't because the packages
were skipable.

-- Information about the crash:
After upgrading KDE Plasma to 6.3.0 from the Arch Linux repositories, I faced a
very long black screen after login to my account via SDDM. Just a blinking
console cursor was shown - no graphical elements. The system didn't react to
any keyboard/mouse input. After several minutes, the desktop slowly appeared
with a spinning notification of the akonadi_migration_agent. It does not seem
to progress/finish even now after almost 20 min running. When I opened
KOrganizer, I noticed that the calendar of my university's Microsoft 365
account was not fully synchronized. To resolve the issue, I tried clearing the
synchronisation state (folder tree state and folder item state) via the
advanced tab in the Microsoft Exchange Configuration dialog. After hitting OK,
the crash was reported.

I have faced the black screen behavior after SDDM login now several times when
KDE Plasma were updated with pacman to a new release. The unresponsiveness and
lack of any status message for more than a minute is irritating and triggers
people to force a reboot. The ACPI signals generated by the power button seem
to at least trigger a clean shutdown. However, I observed at several occasions,
that even the shutdown got stuck.

The reporter is unsure if this crash is reproducible.

Thanks so much Pavel, Discover told me nothing but 'dnf update' indeed told me
kdecoration2 was not updated and that the package Lightly-qt had a broken
dependency. I don't even recall installing that but I seem to have had it
enabled. I removed Lightly, and the update blockage was cleared. My battery
tray icon is back.

I think the lesson here is that after an update, if things are buggy, run
package managers in the CLI and see if they throw an error.

Screenshot of the window title with character escaping issue

SUMMARY
In Dolphin 24.12.2, perform a search in most (or all) locations will show %27
in the window title.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click the search icon and type "test".
2. Observe the window title.

OBSERVED WINDOW TITLE

EXPECTED WINDOW TITLE
Query Results from test — Dolphin

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Arch Linux
KDE Plasma: 6.1.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Dolphin 24.08.3 does not have this bug. However, the window title in that
version simply says "Search for test — Dolphin" - which I think was better at
conveying the same meaning in less words (especially with the "icons and text
task manager" on the panel)

-- Information about the crash:
When connecting an external display via my Dell dock (a WD19TBS) via the
DisplayPort connector, KWin crashes.

In the following cases, everything works fine:
- The same setup with Plasma 6.2.5 works fine
- The same dock with a screen connected via HDMI works fine
- The same screen connected directly to the laptop (with usb-c) works fine

I have reverted for now, but I can fairly easily switch back if more logs or
diagnostics are required.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

[digikam] [Bug 318530] HUB : Add a new option to only writes changed metadata to side-car files

2025-02-14 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318530

--- Comment #13 from Christoph Anton Mitterer ---
Regarding comments 9 to 12.

I think what you guys are talking about is a different issue and should thus be
handled in another.

My request was to have a option that makes sure that digikam would never write
to an image file itself (i.e. neither changing exif, XMP or other meta-data
*in* the image file, or doing things like transforming the image like lossless
rotations in JPEG or so) but instead *only* write any meta-data updates to a
sidecar file.

The idea was, that the original image file should stay pristine as is, an any
changes (like rotation information, tags, subsequently added geo information,
etc. pp.) should go in a separate file.

Cheers,
Chris.

[kwin] [Bug 343690] Missing windows tabbing

(In reply to David Edmundson from comment #33)
> We are not reviving this feature. The prevalence of CSDs makes this
> impossible to do well.

It could still work with SSD windows, just like some other features like
customizable title bar buttons.

AFAIUI KDE sticks to SSD for reasons including that it allows for customization
and features beyond the lowest common denominator features supported generally
by CSD windows. KDE applications use SSD, and most applications that use CSD by
default (including Firefox, Chromium/Chrome, VS Codium/Code) can be configured
to use CSD. GNOME apps are the only apps I've seen that can't be configured to
use SSD.

(In reply to Maximilian Böhm from comment #36)
> Concept for tabbing mixed SSD and CSD windows: You initiate window merging
> via shortcut or taskbar option, then select a second (and third…) window.
> Plasma windows without CSD get regularly tabbed, CSD windows get an extra
> title bar to be tabbed. The title bar disappears after dissolving the window
> tabbing.
(In reply to David from comment #41)
> Kwin currently allows overriding these with standard titlebars and such.
> Wouldn't it be a matter of just forcing this on windows that are tabbed?

Unfortunately forcing a titlebar and frame on CSD windows is often ugly: CSD
windows draw their own shadows, which KWin sees as part of the window, so
there's a glitchy, semi-transparent frame between the KWin frame and the actual
window. I just tried, this happens with Gnome Calculator, Nautilus/GNOME Files
and Chromium, but not with GEdit and Firefox. (With the latter two, the
titlebar can be re-enabled from the window menu, with the former ones that
option is disabled, and it can only be forced via special window settings.)
Though even with the former ones, KWin knows where the actual content is for
the purposes of snapping, so in theory it could cut off/ignore the shadow when
a titlebar and frame is forced on the window. But again, most apps can be
configured inside the app to use SSD anyway, which works well, except for GNOME
apps which there's rarely a reason to use under KDE anyway.

Pushed by bdevries into branch 'master'.

Make unplayed count label auto-adapt its width to value

This might not look as nice, but at least the amount of unplayed
episodes is now not overflowing the background rectangle.

In my case I couldn't make the label overflow, even with 4 digits.

I have changed the code to make the blue background label adapt to the text

What is interesting is that some ICC profiles are ok as long as prefer
efficiency is set. I have two ICC one is colour clamped to SDR colour space.
The other is the full colour range of the monitor. The sRGB clamped one never
works. Whilst the full colour space one works regardless.

I guess my sRGB clmaped one is a little redundant now with the sRGB slider
which is a welcome addition :)

Well, as I wrote, I *do* have the most recent version (just downloaded it again

The problem occurs only if I move back to Kate using the task switcher
(Command+Tab on MacOS). If I instead click on the Kate icon in my Dock, the
Window gets restored.

Git commit ec6363c385ed9f1a18af8e9d15b71b067fc99eef by Christoph Wolk.
Committed on 14/02/2025 at 14:50.
Pushed by cwo into branch 'kicker_focus_item'.

applets/kicker: actually select delegate on arrow

When the user presses an arrow key from the search field, the selection
is moved to the second or final entry in the list, depending on the key
pressed. Then focus is passed to the column. This doesn't work properly
though, as the actual keyboard focus does not end up on the delegate
yet, only after the user presses another arrow. If the user tries to
activate the item highlighted after a single key press, the Return press
falls back to the search field which always activates the first entry in
the list.

Instead, expose the actual highlighted list item, then focus it directly
instead of focusing the column.

[kwin] [Bug 500075] New: Cursor speed is proportional to number of fingers in touchpad

2025-02-14 Thread Santiago Cézar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500075

Bug ID: 500075
Summary: Cursor speed is proportional to number of fingers in
touchpad
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.3.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: input
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: santiagocezar2...@gmail.com
CC: duha.b...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
KWin (or libinput?) seems to take the sum of the individual finger speeds
instead of the average, so when pressing down a touchpad (clickpad) with more
than one finger, the cursor moves faster. This affects software with
right/middle-click panning and using context menus with a single click, but it
doesn't make them unusable though, just mildy annoying

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Place more than one finger in the touchpad
2. Move the fingers in the same direction while pressing down the touchpad

OBSERVED RESULT
Cursor moves faster the more fingers you place

EXPECTED RESULT
Cursor moves at the same speed regardless of the finger amount

Hmm, then I don't know if we can adjust that or this needs to be reported
upstream to Qt.

Git commit 3336c0290db1e427df82731f59d89f95dfc1cf01 by Christoph Wolk.
Committed on 14/02/2025 at 14:55.
Pushed by cwo into branch 'master'.

applets/digitalclock: only show separator with date

The new separator in Digital Clock is always active if "Always beside
time" is selected, even if the date is off. As a result, an orphaned
separator will appear in that circumstance. While this has its own logic
and can be fixed by selecting any other setting except "Always beside
time", this is not very intuitive and does not look appealing.

Instead, only show the separator when there is an actual date to
separate from the time.

[kdenlive] [Bug 500067] New: IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE (U+3000) in subtitles is converted to regular SPACE (U+0020) on loading

2025-02-14 Thread Huanyu Liu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500067

Bug ID: 500067
Summary: IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE (U+3000) in subtitles is converted
to regular SPACE (U+0020) on loading
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Title Clips & Subtitles
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: 1293660...@qq.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE (U+3000) in subtitles is converted to regular SPACE (U+0020)
on loading.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Kdenlive, create a new project and save it to somewhere (e.g.
/tmp/tmp.kdenlive)
2. Use "Project → Subtitles → Add Subtitle" (or Shift+S) to add a clip of
subtitle with IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE (U+3000) (e.g. "文 本")
3. Save the project and close Kdenlive
4. Restart Kdenlive and load the saved project

OBSERVED RESULT
The IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE (U+3000) is converted to a regular SPACE (U+0020) in the
subtitle editor ("文 本").
On the other hand, if you open the generated subtitle file
(/tmp/tmp.kdenlive.ass) with a text editor, you can find the IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE
is correctly saved. Therefore, this is a bug related to loading, not saving.

EXPECTED RESULT
The IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE should be retained.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.2-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE is usually used in CJK subtitles for text alignment.
Other fullwidth characters (e.g. "1", "!") are not affected.

Crash report produced

SUMMARY

In Kate 25.3.70:
If I set the syntax highlight mode to Ruby, Kate crashes as soon as I hit the
ENTER key during entering text.

Color theme: ayu Light (However the bug does not seem to depend on the theme)
Application Style and Window Color Scheme set to Default

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new file.
2. Enter a few lines of Ruby code, for instance "require 'xyz'"
3. Save the file under a name with the extension .rb; this makes the Highligher
assume Ruby code, and the text entered so far is syntax coloured.
4. Add new text. Type the RETURN key to open a new line.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate crashes reproducibly on my Intel-based Macbook.

EXPECTED RESULT
No crash. New line should be inserted into document.

   Version: 24.12.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have an NTFS (not sure if the FS is relevant) HDD with 9k picture files
2. View mode any
3. No previews
4. Go to $RECYCLE.BIN (the ntfs trashbin folder), select all files and right
click

OBSERVED RESULT

Dolphin starts to freeze. Journalctl logs
```
```

EXPECTED RESULT
Dolphin does not freeze.

I had intended to delete all files directly w/o moving them to the trash by
using the context menu. When I just hit DEL, Dolphin copied the files into the
same $RECYCLE.BIN folder as copies. That's definitely another UX issue. ;-)
