Hi,

Actually this was the most interesting symptom - Task manager does not open for
me, at least not in reasonable time, so I cannot kill the process from there.
With reasonable time I mean that fifteen minutes is not long enough.

[JPP-Devel] a rewiew on menu bar

2007-09-23 Thread Giuseppe Aruta
Hi

I am reviewing the menu bar wiki page which I wrote.
I want to show some improvements about the
organization of menu.

1) In the File menu there are two voices which can be
better explained:
a) "Save Image as SVG format", tecnically this wpould
be better as "Save View as SVG format" or "Save Layer
View as SVG..."
b) "Save Image as..",would be better explained as
"Save Layer View as..."
Since they both do the same thing (save the Layer
view)
I think they can be grouped in a single menu: "Save
Layer View" with two submenus: "Save as SVG" and "Save
as Raster"

2) In the layer menu there are "Add MrSID layer" and
"Add Image layer".
These two voices would be better in the "File" menu,
not in "Layer" menu since they both open files (even
raster).
I think they can go in a sinlge menu: "Load
Raster(s)...", below "Load Dataset(s)...". Which has
two submenus. ("Add Image" and "Add MrSID").
Of coarse untill Paul's "open files.." will be ready
:)

BTW - MrSID layer has a warning message that dispalys
a message if no MrSID library is installed
("C:\\openjump-20070921-0020\etc\mrsiddecode.exe
not installed"). Could we use something similar for
ECW so we delete that "ecw deactivated" from menu?

Thanks

Peppe

OK

It sound to me as though you have not allocated enough RAM to the JRE,
and it has become disk-bound. Any please send the model files.

this are well reasoned improvements we should do.
So.. to avoid that we forget this: can you add this to the bug list.

2007-09-23 Thread Pedro Doria Meunier
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hey Larry,

Nice to hear from you and thank you for taking interest in the matter! :)

The problem is related to a change in the file names...
The (current?) MrSID plugin calls the win32 binaries.

The Info and Decode utilities for Linux are now named, respectively:
mrsidgeoinfo_linux
mrsidgeodecode_linux

Although one can use these utilities to manually get the tiffs, this
is a very cumbersome task... (lazy dog here! :])
It'd be *much* more convenient that this could work in Linux as it
works with the win32 version... ;-)

Kind Regards,

Re: [JPP-Devel] Cadplan Printer plugin kills my computer (Solved)

>Dear Jukka

>As a matter if interest, you should not end up with a "system jam",

Hi,

I found the reason for my jam. It was because I was asking printer plugin to
print output to such a big scale that thousands of sheets would have needed for
covering the whole area. While the original scale 1:12 000 000 I were asking
for 1:5000. Well, that's the scale we are always printing to so I did not think
too much when selecting the scale. It appeared to be so that an incautious user
can entice the plugin to try something it cannot handle. Perhaps the plugin
could do a fast feasibility test here, asking something like 'Do you really
want to print 22000 sheets?'.

I could also finally kill OpenJUMP after a very long wait. Java process was
just taking +99% of processor time and task manager was reacting very, very
slowly. We have faced similar situation with Java taking almost all processor
time and virtually blocking the whole system with our own Java applications
when they face some unexpected problem.

Otherwise the printer plugin looks good, also with WMS imagery. We need an
accurate 1:5000 scale on paper, do you think your plugin can handle it? With
our existing application we had to work hard before we managed to make it print
to accurate scale with any printer/driver combination.

Regards,

[JPP-Devel] Checking Java version?

2007-09-23 Thread Rahkonen Jukka
Hi,

Could it be possible/simple to add some kind of Java version check during
OpenJUMP startup? We have lots of Java Web Start applications, an with them
the minimum (or even strict) Java version can be advertised in the .jnlp file.
For the same reason our users may need several Java JRE versions installed, and
sometimes it is hard to know which is the default one that is started by
openjump.bat file. Users would be better off if they'd see message like "Java
version 1.x or higher required" instead of nothing at all, all perhaps
something as informative as "Unable to launch".

On Number #2 my new Open File plug-in handles image and vector file

I will. As soon as someone tells me *exactly* the filenames that OJ
MrSID plugin opens...
Then I'll try to rename them and try to get it working.
If all the above fails... what about a MrSID plugin for Linux and
another for win32? wouldn't that make *much* more sense?

Although Lizzard Tech frequently changes the filenames the 'core'
output is the same... ;-)

Kind regards,
