Unable to click (I expect the mouse pointer to change when I hover on
the Play. Doesnt happen) on "Play" FF3/Ubuntu Intrepid. Nothing
happens either when I click (considering that for some reason this
pointer change is not working)

Works in FF3/Ubuntu 8.04
The mouse pointer doesn't change on hover.
The audio plays, but the blue colored text's voice seems to break in
the middle. Not sure whether it is a recording problem.

Sound plays from the webpage. But it looks like I have a new problem. All
sounds start up
all at once! Cacophony!

In Debian lenny iceweasel starts looking for a plugin to play
mpegs which it does not find since I have none installed ;-) (*)

On the other hand w3m shows me the link to the mp3 file and allows me
to download it.

On a different note. Is it legal to distribute mp3 files in India if
they have not been produced using software that has paid patent
royalties to Fraunhofer? Does NRCFoss have such patent-paid software?

Kapil.

[Ilugc] [OT]activities at LUG-VIT ( a small update for the unknown)

Yes we have been trying our best to encourage students here to start
using Linux, and we have achieved some success in the past two years,
with a lot of students using Linux, this has even encouraged us to
plan for setting up a repository of Fedora and Ubuntu packages on the
University server ( talks going on with the administration).
We have also created a spin of Fedora 10 with all the multimedia
packages included ( I am not sure I can call this a Fedora spin ;)),
which are going to popularise from now on so that it is easy for
people to start 'getting onto' linux.
What really has been a problem is the quality rather than the
quantity, we do have a large user base but lack of people who are
really sound with Linux administration and can troubleshoot . We have
been trying in our own ways to encourage faster troubleshooting
through the site ( http://vlug.playdrupal.com , the subdomain being
provided by one of the alumni)...and through almost regular saturday
roundups ( I should agree I picked up the roundup idea from ILUGC, I
have been on the list for long now ).
I have already announced a "call for speakers" for an event which is
in the planning towards the end of April. We stand by the ideologies
of the community in general and look up to ILUGC in achieving an
effective user base and sustain our task of helping people embrace
FOSS.

[Ilugc] Problem playing video in Fedora 10 and Debian Lenny

Hi all,

I installed Flash plugin in my systems Fedora 10 and Debian Lenny.
Whenever I try to play a video in my browser(Firefox), my system seems
to be rebooting without any indication. I am not sure how to find any
information after the reboot. Since I installed couple of plugins -
gstreamer, flash, mplayer plugins am not sure which one is creating
problem. Any one else has seen similar problem in Fedora or Debian?

Thanks,

Given that you have both gstreamer (I assume totem as the player) and
mplayer plugins on the same sytem, I recommend you check in
Tools->Options->Applications as to which plays the video.

I dont have that problem on my Fedora 10 machine. Check your video
card and run memtest86. At times, a bad RAM can cause these problems

You can, as a temporary meause, set videos to download to your system
first using the same Options->Applications dialog

I forget to mention, if I play any video files(from VLC, or from the
browser) my system is getting rebooted. This is the link I used to
install my Fedora system for playing the video files.

http://techchorus.net/how-play-music-and-video-fedora-10

If I play any video in vlc or in my broswer(youtube), my system is
getting rebooted. If I did not play anything, system is working good.
Can I check any log or anywhere to find out what is the problem?
/var/log/messages does not seem to give any information for this
problem.

Thanks,
Siva.
