First off, use

instead. It documents master instead of the last release tag.

It's not going to fix your build, but it at least uses a container instead of a
regular guix shell, and drops the obsolete (but harmless) localstatedir option.

I doubt it, although I can't reproduce your error so can't say for sure what
did. A fresh Guix checkout builds fine here, even using the 'old' instructions.

Try the new manual in a new checkout, it might just work.

…I mean, in the sense that the instructions you followed are not 'wrong',
AFAIK. If it fixes anything that's a side-effect.

Building from Git / Could not set character size

2024-12-07 Thread Tobias Alexandra Platen
I tried to build guix from git, when I noticed the failed build with:
Error: Could not set character size
make[2]: *** [Makefile:7547: doc/images/service-graph.png] Error 1
I am following this manual page:
https://guix.gnu.org/manual/en/html_node/Building-from-Git.html
... and cloned the latest version of guix today using:
git clone https://git.savannah.gnu.org/git/guix.git

My guess is that some of the latest commits breaks the guix build.

Hehe! It was such a surprise not seeing any official or semi-official
Lisp presence at 37c3, it felt like a wasted opportunity, something had
to be done! :D

This is so cool, thanks Jonathan! I've sent them an email. It's also
nice to know about the project, I definitely want to look into it.

Yeah, it'd be lovely.

Perhaps see you at Guix Days?

Have a great day, cheers, Fabio.
