I can give history on this.

This process is for events asking for sponsorship for their event.
Sometimes it's community members asking for support (but most of those go
to Reps). Often it's large events, with sponsorship brochures, asking for
Mozilla to sponsor their event.

The private discussion is used to decide if the event meets Mozilla's
strategy and goals and, if appropriate, how/what to negotiate.

It didn't seem appropriate to discuss things like "well, they asked for $5K
for silver, but they offer a booth, and what we really want is more
tickets, so how about we offer them $3K for 3 tickets and see if they'll
take it and if they don't, we could go up to $4K." It would make
negotiations much harder if the event planners could also see that. :) And
yes, perhaps the world of negotiation would benefit if both sides shared
information like that, but that should be tried with a smaller, more
trusted group, not a whole bunch of events.

Note, that this is the history of why it was setup this way, not
necessarily how it works today.

I didn't think being an employee was a prerequisite for module ownership.

You should ask the relevant teams to do this.

Brendan left the Mozilla Corporation. That has no bearing on his role
in the governance structure.

No but he also has been hands of and distanced himself from Mozilla for
obvious the same reasons he left MoCo.

Does he intend to participate in module / governance?
