OpenPGP card bricked

2018-03-10 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

After a power-off reset of my laptop the OpenPGP Card seems to be
damaged. The pcscd can't read the card anymore. It gives up with:

...
6225 commands.c:244:CmdPowerOn Card absent or mute
0052 ifdhandler.c:1213:IFDHPowerICC() PowerUp failed
0017 eventhandler.c:301:EHStatusHandlerThread() powerState:
POWER_STATE_UNPOWERED

(the full log is attached).

I already tried a different reader USB token (an HID Global OMNIKEY 6121)
and a different laptop. So, it seems to be the SIM card itself.

What can I do?

Thanks

matthias

gpg 2.2.5 hangs instead of asking for a passphrase

2018-03-10 Thread Ian Holmes
Hi,

I'm using gpg on macOS High Sierra, installed via homebrew. I have a file
that is CAST5 encrypted. When I try to decrypt it using my previous
homebrew version of gpg (gpg 2.0.30, libgcrypt 1.7.6), I type 'gpg
--decrypt myfile.txt.gpg' and it prints 'gpg5: CAST5 the screen clears, it
prompts me for a passphrase, the prompt screen disappears and my UNIX
prompt screen is restored, and then the decrypted file is displayed.
However, following a homebrew update (to gpg 2.2.5, libgcrypt 1.8.2), now
when I type the same command 'gpg --decrypt myfile.txt.gpg' it just hangs.
I can quit it with Ctrl-C. Symmetric encryption with '-c' seems similarly
broken: it hangs instead of asking for a passphrase.

Any thoughts? Could use some help please!

Cheers,
Ian

The file opens fine on my Mac. I suspect that either there is a problem
with your OS (a reboot may help), or your iMac doesn't fulfill the
minimum installation requirements (macOS 10.9 or newer, running in
64-bit mode).

Excellent. Some of the issues you raised (like oddness in test
output/behaviour) had already been picked up and fixed, as you no
doubt saw. Not really enough for a new release just yet, but if
anyone has trouble it's a good first step to try the latest updates to
master.

Mind you, the most immediately recent updates haven't been code,
they've been docs (and there's more to come).

I haven't looked, but I'm guessing from the name that it's a variation
on Notmuch, right?
