Re: [GNC] No reports

Will upgrading definitely fix the problem?

I thought a flatpack was supposed to contain every thing needed - including all
libraries.

Re: [GNC] Tracking down an unrealized gain

2025-02-28 Thread David Warren
For anyone else's benefit, for old Stock accounts, I was relying on gnucash
to re-value appreciated (or depreciated) stocks. This would affect my net
worth on my personal balance sheet, but even when I closed out stocks by
selling all shares, I was using neither lots/scrubbing nor manual entries
for realized gains/losses, so of course my Trial Balance was not in
balance. There isn't a really good tool (at least that I could find *inside
*gnucash) to show me total realized gain or loss on a closed stock account
throughout its life, but I was able to either eyeball it for the stocks
with few entries or download the register to a spreadsheet program to then
calculate the cumulative realized loss or gain, and I made manual entries
on the last share sale date, and I have now (more or less) gotten rid of
the trial balance issue and the phantom "unrealized loss" that I knew
didn't really exist.

I'll probably continue to mostly track assets manually (since one generally
has to make manual realized gain entries anyway, or learn more about
scrubbing, which I just don't have the time or need to do right now), and
if it ever really matters, I suppose I could export all the old stock
registers and build some type of programmatic way to import back all the
individual realized gains/losses, but I'm probably good enough for now, and
at least understand what I did wrong. It does make sense now.

Thank you.

Re: [GNC] Problems getting prices from Yahoo as JSON

2025-02-28 Thread Kalpesh Patel
On Windows it should be:

 C:\Strawberry\perl\site\lib\Finance\Quote

On Unix/Linux it could be in many different places depending on how it was
installed. Try these:

/usr/share/perl5/Finance/Quote
/usr/local/share/perl/5.26.1/Finance/Quote

If not then use find utility to locate it on Unix/Linux or Mac OS'...

# find / -name YahooJSON.pm
/usr/share/perl5/Finance/Quote/YahooJSON.pm
/usr/local/share/perl/5.26.1/Finance/Quote/YahooJSON.pm

For flatpak, I am not sure how.

[GNC] Help with transactions not downloading for only one bank.

2025-02-28 Thread Tani Rae Standridge
Hi

I am desperate. The bank account with the most transactions (702) that I
need to import to GnuCash. isn't importing. All 6 other accounts from other
banks were imported.
I got hoodwinked into a chat with justanswer.com that didn't result in an
answer. Below is what I typed to the chatbot. I hope it is clear enough
for someone with skill to help me.

I am using version 3.1 GnuCash. I was downloading bank transactions to my
accounts. Unfortunately, the account with the most transactions (702) does
not show any transactions when I hit import and choose the file that says
it contains 164 kb. The import screen is blank. I can’t possibly enter all
these manually. Any way to force it?

I am on a Mac Big Sur using GNUCASH ver 3.1.

There is no error message. The screen that usually shows transactions to be
imported on GnuCash just comes up blank.

I chose several different ranges from the bank to download. And I tried the
checking account and the credit card account from this bank and neither one
would import. so I tried several different versions of date ranges and I
tried using OFX and QFX on downloads and neither worked.

It seems to be only my Navy federal accounts. I tried to import an only 5
kb file for the checking account and it's blank. I tried downloading all
transactions with no date range restriction on the credit card and that did
not open either. That downloaded to my Mac showing it was 553 kb-sized
file. So there must be transactions in there. That is when I went in and
restricted dates and got files that were 165 kb but upon importing, the
import window on all is blank. I switched banks to Chase and those came in!

Also, I'm wondering if it's a problem that I am using version 3.1 of
GnuCash and not the new version 5. I am not sure how to update to that
though and am afraid I may lose data if I download the newer version.
Advise on this would be helpful as well.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Hello. I cannot change the global font of Gnucash to Aptos Narrow. I use
 the gtk-3.0.css method.

This is the current contents of the css text file:

 *{
  font: 10pt calibri, sans-serif;
 }

If I change "calibri" above to "aptos" it works fine. If I change it to
"aptos narrow" ou "aptos-narrow" it does not work.

The Aptos Font Family is installed system wide.

 Any help is appreciated.

 Regards.

Does the Account Summary report not get you close? One can specify a
reporting date and choose to include/exclude hidden accounts quite easily.

Select All & Copy that into a spreadsheet and save as CSV or whatever your
external tracker needs (or save as HTML etc.)

Conversely. What happens if you print the blank report page to a PDF file and
view that? ISTR that was an issue at one time in the past and PDF reports
were perfectly legible.

All these questions are to try to isolate your problem, Dave, and not send you

Re: [GNC] Changing Global Font to Aptos Narrow

2025-02-28 Thread John Ralls
Gilberto,

Nope, every variation is its own file, see
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/font-list/aptos. GnuCash can’t use
Aptos narrow because you don’t have it.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/cloud-fonts-in-office-f7b009fe-037f-45ed-a556-b5fe6ede6adb
may explain why you’re able to use it in Microsoft applications without
actually installing it on your computer, and of course Microsoft Office 365 is
software-as-a-service that runs on Microsoft’s servers.

I've been waiting for this to come up. I have had this issue for several

When I print it opens a blank window. However when I go to the Temp

Re: [GNC] Changing Global Font to Aptos Narrow

2025-02-28 Thread Gilberto Reis Filho
Hi John, I just took a deeper dive on this.

This is what is within the fonts directory in Win11 (C:\Windows\Fonts):

https://1drv.ms/i/c/a80dbceece13ec4e/EbJ3eZx9BfZEnBGx1wr-zWQB5dvZ9DOgO5WDIWzMKTeBdw?e=baFPEM

Aptos Narrow seems to be within the Aptos ttf file (bear with me here
because I am not savvy on how windows fonts work).

Thanks.
