Subject: [GNC] Import troubles

   I have a large CSV-File with transactions.
My problem is, that about 10% of this transaction will not import
   correct!!
   See these 4 examples:
   "2007-03-28","Billa","","5.1100","-5.1100","Girokonto","Essen"
   "2021-06-14","Spar","Karte: 98","4.00","-4.00","Bargeld","Extras"
   "2007-03-28","Billa","","0.8500","-0.8500","Girokonto","Katzen"
   "2021-06-14","Spar","Karte: 98","6.00","-6.00","Bargeld","Katzen"
   the FIRST will not import!!

   BUmCoKAABUDUZcAACAqkHDBQAAqBo0XAAAgKpBw
   wUAAKgaNFwAAICq8f8HMyISB+fFYscASUVORK5CYII=]
Why does the importer NOT take the correct debit account as it does
   with the 3 others??
   I have about 30 000 transactions.
I can impossibly correct all not working transactions manually.
   Please help

Re: [GNC] Import troubles

2025-02-23 Thread David Cousens
Alois,

I set up a dummy data file in GnuCash 5.10 with Asset accounts
"Bargeld" and "Girokonto" and expense accounts "Essen", "Extras, and
"Katzen" then put the data from your post into a CSV file and imported
it without any problems. I assigned the headers

Date, Description, Memo, Amount Negated, Amount, Account, Transfer
Account

to the fields in the data in that order. The Amount Negated and Amount
were applied to those specific columns so that the debits and credit
were made to the correct accounts (credits to the asset accounts and
debits to the expense accounts) assuming I have translated the German
account names correctly.

With that setup these imported correctly with no problems.

There is a step in the import process where you will have to match the
account names to the internal account names the first time you do an
import even if the names in the CSV Account and Transfer Account fields
are exactly the same as the account names you have used internally in
GnuCash. Once that assignment has been made it will be remembered in
subsequent imports.

Hope this helps.

David Cousens

Re: [GNC] Printing personal checks

It has been many years since I printed checks, but the ones I used
successfully back then were the kind that print one or three checks onto a
standard letter-size sheet of paper. I had chosen the kind with a single
check at the bottom and the top two thirds were "stubs." The paper fed into
my printer just like any other letter-size paper stock.

I found the whole process cumbersome for the low quantity of checks I
write, so when I changed banks I shredded the remaining check stock. I
still have the approximately 500 window envelopes remaining, however!

For years I have used an inkjet printer to ENDORSE checks received, and a
few weeks ago the printer suddenly quit functioning. I have been
disappointed that the new "ink tank" printer I purchased cannot reliably
handle a check for endorsement, despite its ability to print onto a
(similarly sized) envelope. I found that the checks would feed straight at
first and then slip sideways and blob excessive amounts of ink onto the
check in addition to the badly skewed text.

I finally found I could put a check in an envelope with a rectangular hole
cut for the check endorsement, and that seems to be working.

Maybe you can find a way to hold each check in position as it feeds through
the printer. I do recall seeing details somewhere describing how to get
GnuCash to print text exactly where you want (which unfortunately seems to
vary somewhat from printer to printer). I recall printing numerous test
pages after changing parameters, then holding the printed plain sheet up to
a strong light to see exactly how its text aligns with the check stock.
