Re: [GNC] Newbie

2024-12-11 Thread Joseph St. Denis via gnucash-user
I have a Microsoft OneDrive account and share my Gnucash files between my
laptop and a Desktop. Once you setup the shared document files a one time
process the files automatically go from my laptop to the OneDrive it takes a
bit of time to get it the files to transfer since the process sync is done
after you close Gnucash. I have the same problem with Outlook too since my file
system has multiple email accounts and each year is a separate account. So you
have to close the program do something else while the files are syncing there's
a cloud icon on my task bar with a circle it goes green when it's completed and
is Greyed out when processing. I then to read the news or check Updates and
scan the computer for viruses while waiting.

Subject: Re: [GNC] Newbie

There are software applications that will supposedly do this type of transfer.
I used one onetime and the results were less than spectacular. I would not
recommend that route.

The folder structure on Win10 and Win11 are the same.

Unless you changed it, documents are stored by default in the "Documents"
folder which would be located at C:\Users\"your username"\Documents. You could
copy all the files from that folder to a thumb drive or other external storage
device. Connect the storage device to your new pc and copy the files from the
storage device to the C:\Users\"your username"\Documents folder on your new pc.

If you have a Microsoft account and use OneDrive the folder locations are
different and instead of:
C:\Users\"your username"\Documents it would be at:
C:\Users\"your username"\OneDrive\Documents

You can do some online research. I'm sure you will find more information on how
to make the data transfer.

[GNC] Stock Wizard not allowing zero balance Margin account

2024-12-11 Thread Grace

Hello,

I've been recording some of my trades into GnuCash using the Stock
Assistant.

I have one trade where the selling price is $11, and the commission and
tax also amount to $11. When I try to enter this, assistant tells me
that the value cannot be zero, and I cannot complete the transaction. I
"fudged" it to get the transaction completed, and then showed the
splits. The journal was happy to accept a zero balance for the margin
account.

Just thought I would put this out there.

Grace

Running this version of GnuCash generates the error that this version

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 5.9-2 Mojave

2024-12-11 Thread William Prescott
I don't know what it says about me, but I actually have every version of
Gnucash for the past 10 years on my computer, 35 of them. So I can try both
versions after I update in a day or two.

It doesn’t, because both 5.9-1 and 5.9-2 use the same GnuCash release. To
see which you’re using open Applications in Finder and select GnuCash. If
you use the 3-column view then the version will be in the right-most panel,
otherwise you’ll need to use command-I (File>Get info in the menu) to see
 it.

Running this version of GnuCash generates the error that this version
 requires MacOS 11.0 or later.
